So now CoH is a "raiding" game.

LOL!!!!!!!

Know something CactusBrawler, I agree with you 100%

But, I think he/she deserves more than a smack..I think this person who detests solo players deserves a Texas sized whooping...and detest solo players he/she does, because, this end game from a soloer's point of view is...uggg.

I'm going to assume you're running at x8 to get that many shards to drop, at a rate of more than one an hour.
I consider myself lucky to get a shard in 60-90 minutes at x4.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

I run +0, x8 with no bosses on either a fire farm map such as the demon map or I run normal tip mission with the same difficulty settings. My Fire / Psi / Fire build tears through pretty much everything I come across She definitely kills much faster than my SS/Shield Brute

I'm not convinced that grinding fire farms is a welcome alternative to grinding iTrials for those 'who prefer to solo' lol. I can't comment on the tip farming, though.

Here's another one of these 'crazy soloists'. I solo 95% of my time in game easily and have for 7 years now. I've ran the first two trials several times on a couple of characters but it's not something I enjoy. Lots of waiting around and if I'm in queue I can't do anything else while waiting except marketing or street sweeping. Base building, AE, missions and tailor is out.

In my case it's a misconception that I'm kept in the game through forced social interaction. I just like to tweak my characters and put them through as tough content I can on my own. I'd love if the minimum requirement for starting a task force was removed, as I've seen suggested many times. I'm not wishing for an easy and just as fast way as trials to get the incarnate progress solo, I want it to be challenging and not unreasonably slow.

I could have sworn I said I do other thigns besides that. Next time read the entire post instead of just the parts you want to lol at.

But since you missed what I said in the last post, I also run Tip Missions, I also run TF/SF, I also run the Apex and Tin Mage which provide me with Astrals and Threads. So it all adds up pretty fast.

I'm another one who mostly solos. I don't mind teaming up for quick stuff like Rikti invasions or stomping a Giant Monster. And if I see someone on the channels looking for help with a boss or something, I'll pitch in just to be a good neighbor. Otherwise, I'd rather do my own thing, where I can control the pace and the difficulty. If there was a non-MMO superhero game with the same customizability, depth, and replay value, I'd be all over it. Arkham Asylum was great, but I blew through it in a week.

I ran BAF and Lambda enough to get one character fully slotted out with Tier 4s, mostly out of stubbornness ("I've come this far...!"). But it wasn't much fun, and I'm not planning on doing any more. If I ever do, it'll just be to unlock costume pieces. I'm fine with the Incarnate system being there for people who like that sort of thing. But to me it's like they took all my least favorite aspects of the main game, and rolled them all up into one Big Ball of Suck.

And then carefully rolled the ball away into its own little corner, where it wouldn't impact on your enjoyment of the 1-50 experience.

I do still have a faint hope that the Devs will do something to end the City of Farmers mania but it will have to be something fairly dramatic to have any impact judging by the AE debacle.

I believe it was back in 2005 or so with the "Super Secret Out Of Combat Skill System". You know, that thing that took years to be turned into the Invention system?

I quoted your entire post, Beef. I did read it all. My comment only referred to your fire farm. I've edited my response to it for clarity, however, since you need it.

We've had raid-type content since the beginning of this game, you probably heard of this guy called Hamidon.

So now, we have 6 different raids.

Hamidon, Cathedral of Pain, Rikti Mothership, BAF, Lambda, and Keyes Island.

Yes these are all high level raids, but these are far from making CoH a "raiding game."

The earlier raids was not the only means of progression. Well, Hamidon was to a certain extent, if you regard the Hamidon Origin Enhancements as progress. Rikti Mothership was a source for Vanguard Merits, but not the only source (you could get them for simply slaying Rikti anywhere). And Cathedral of Pain could give your supergroup an Item of Power for a few days, until the trial was shut down for a few years until it returned without the Item of Power. The trials also could give you a badge, but aside from that, squat progression.

You can progress in several ways for the last ten levels. You can raid. You can do task forces. You can do story missions. You can do paper or radio missions. You can do MA missions. You can run around aimlessly killing stuff in zones.

The only viable way to progress post 50 (I don't think that spending on the order of a year to just convert the thousands of needed shards, provided you have them, as a viable way) is Incarnate Trials.

Hence, post-50 progression is a raiding game.

Still @Shadow Kitty

Hami-Os were a rather large form of progression before IOs came out. Progressing isn't just about getting shiny new powers, but also improving your current ones, which is what Hami-Os and IOs did.

And like I said already, the trials are far from making CoH a raiding game. When I can't perform the content at the lower levels w/out raiding, I'll be more than inclined to agree.

Except that thats how reality works. You define something in context to other things.

It's not a grind when you are doing multiple things. You run your tips for the day, run a few TFs, and if your still wanting to play, run a farm map if you have one. Run the weekly strike target, earn the Notice of the Well, convert it to 40 threads. It's that simple.

I never said it is as fast as running trials, and even if they added solo content to get the components, I hope you don't think it would be any faster. I doubt the devs would let you run a Incarnate mission to get a component reward at the end of each mission. So even that would probably require multiple mission and take just as long.

"run a few TFs"?

a few TFs?

Haha my immediate reaction was to type 'Beef, it's like you and I are playing completely different games!'.

A little reflection allows me to say that I'm glad that the game is varied enough to be able to produce such different impressions.

There's no way I could cram all that into a weekend, let alone a single session

And I don't think I'd want to, either.

Adopting your playstyle would give me conniption fits, Beef, but if you like it, more power to you.

But easymode for me, please!

And NCSoft? I'll happily pay for that, too!

Maybe that's the difference in our play styles, you want to earn the best for the least amount of game time. I on he other hand work for my rewards. I play a lot, but I can afford to since I own my own business and that gives me more time to play. Unlike you who works for someone else and only has weekends to play. I don't know, that just an assumption of course. But I think the speed of the solo path is a little slow and could be increased a tad, but not by much. If you want the good lewt at a fast pace, then run the trials. Run each trial once per day and before ya know it combined with the other content you run, you will have your slots unlocked and be on your way to new abilities instead of coming here to the forums hours on end complaining about it

So it's like the forum equivalent of Incarnate trials?
