Obviously Cleverbot is more into RPG gaming than cooking:
Me: What spices are used most in cooking?
CB: What nice thing are you cooking?
Me: Shepard's pie.
CB: The illusive man wishes to speak to you in the debriefing room commander. -
Amazing picture.
Nr 137 looks like BB from Wes Craven's 'Deadly Friend'. -
Ok, haven't read the thread yet and trying to be positive here, it's more of a tweak than I expected and now it is obvious at least what faction it is supposed to be with the hats, dark faces and more 'robey' appearance. Unfortunately, the look that the devs are in love with is one I have a hard time with in general and now it's cranked up to eleven. They look like a parody of themselves but I'm just going to write this off as a difference in taste and at least be content the remind me of the CoT.
I'll probably grow to love to to hate them anyway. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the designs, especially if the ghosts and beasts are being remade also. -
Brilliant, the Foreshadow one was my fav

I would definitely prefer it it was at least on the level of that arc, I love those missions. In fact somewhat special mechanics in those is what got me psyched about the incarnate content in the first place. I think it was Bill Z who suggested that the 'no AV' option in the difficulty settings could be ignored also. I'd be OK with that too.

Poor, misunderstood Pacur. Believe me, your message comes across loud and clear. It's too bad you're not a dev, because then we'd have a definite roadmap for the solo content at least.

1. Lusca ... err I mean Airhead
2. Liz
3. Defiance Jones -
Here's another one of these 'crazy soloists'. I solo 95% of my time in game easily and have for 7 years now. I've ran the first two trials several times on a couple of characters but it's not something I enjoy. Lots of waiting around and if I'm in queue I can't do anything else while waiting except marketing or street sweeping. Base building, AE, missions and tailor is out.
In my case it's a misconception that I'm kept in the game through forced social interaction. I just like to tweak my characters and put them through as tough content I can on my own. I'd love if the minimum requirement for starting a task force was removed, as I've seen suggested many times. I'm not wishing for an easy and just as fast way as trials to get the incarnate progress solo, I want it to be challenging and not unreasonably slow. -
1st: 3
2nd: 2
3rd: 8
As for who's who I'll have to catch up a bit on the previous entries first to hazard guessing. Great job all, anyways. -
Wow, this is beginning to look real professional. Maybe the devs will join in with RP titles, login promos and such this year (nudge, nudge)?
The Olympics is a nice theme, both with how it connects with the greek/canon mythos and with prime specimens competing in general. Lots of possibilities here.

I have a bunch of heroes on Virtue but they're all in my solo SG. I'm not sure how coalition invites are made but if you can invite the SG 'Anvil' I'd be happy to join with it for some art bantering and such.

Very impressive stuff. The Illuminati preacher freaks me out.

Unsure about the rules on blood and gore here so I sent a link with a suggestion by PM. Good luck on the comic, looking forward to seeing it.

Epic. It's shows a darker side to Juggy than the kittenlike behavior we're used to.
-
Very cool. Morbius was my number one favorite Spidey villain. When I read the comic I always envisioned William Dafoe playing him. Then decades later he wound up as Green Goblin, so close

I like the tone that has been set already for next year's competition. But Foo not competing? Did Björn Borg stop entering when he won Wimbledon the first time? Did Ozzy Osbourne quit drinking as soon as he got arrested? Did Angelina stop adopting after the initial little darling tyke? This could be the start of a reign that would make Djingis Khan envious!

A fine initiative. I would like to join also. My ID is FunnyFaceDesign.

I can only speak for myself as an amateur but I’m constantly surprised to see professionals use other’s work so closely. I can only assume that this is something the publisher agrees with because they want the deadlines to be met? I don’t agree with Wassy that it’s just about common poses; it’s also exactly the same angle and proportions! If I see a pose that I like and later recreate it would likely not be from that exact angle. I don’t have much formal training but I’ve taken a few life drawing classes and a good and interesting pose is such from many angles. The examples on that page are too exact to just have been inspired or marginally referenced.
Personally when I draw I do so in either of 2 modes, let’s call them input and output. In input mode such as when drawing from life, photos, other art etc I try to open up and experience new ways of treating the subject with regards to form, light etc. If I know I’m about to make a picture with something in it I’m unsure if I could draw I’ll look it up beforehand, maybe make studies etc. The results of these exercises are mostly deleted or thrown away right afterwards and never posted anywhere unless they were done explicitly for a project.
However when making the stuff I call my own and show off I rarely use references in input mode and always state it as having used a reference if I do. If I know I started the picture because I recently saw similar images somewhere I call it ‘inspired by’. But that does not include fact checking stuff of the kind I think FD means, for example googling swastikas to see if I turned it the right way, checking a hero costume file or looking up any picture of a bird to see I got the right number of beaks on the one I’m doing. The point is, when drawing in output mode I process only things from memory and imagination. I don’t want to go back and forth between my picture and a ref, that puts me in input mode and disrupts my enjoyment. Instead I use trial-and-error and lots of time to correct my mistakes, not very effective, I know. I do draw perspective lines; flip the image, use undo, eraser, ruler, layers etc to help speed up the process.
Does the quality of my work suffer because I don’t use references more actively when drawing and painting? Probably. But even if it takes longer time and doesn’t look so good I enjoy it more. However, I also recognize the fact that this is just my very personal taste and is not some holy rule that apply to everyone. The use of reference as Bobby showed is a perfectly valid way to go about it also.
That said, I do have cautionary tale about drawing from imagination that I will recount later when I have more time.
*edit* Oops, I meant Wassy. -
Already that time of the year? Dang, he ages fast.
Happy birthday, big guy! -
This is why I never display my practice pieces I do from photographs and other's work. Even if you state, as Juggy did in the original posting on dA, that you copied it, it'll will sooner or later find it's way somewhere without that info and you'll be accused of passing it off as your own.
You learn a lot of from copying both old and new masters, but I personally always find it more of a chore. The fun part is doing your own stuff with improvements that you've picked up from it. I do enjoy drawing statues in museums, though. They're perfect models, always standing still -
I support Wassy for administrator. That means we get NSFW challenges every month, right?

Congratulations to the Foo and props to Shia also for sticking it out all way. Thanks to TA for holding togheter a fun contest.
Now we'll all just have to brace ourselves for what the ego boost will do the Foo -
While Shia's is more refined and very funny, Foo's just reeks of doooom. It's a close call but I have to go with The Foo. Hey, that rhymed!

Hello all. I thought check in on you and see how the old art forum is doing. I've been exceedingly busy at work and in an inspirational slump so I've only recently come around to finish the prizes for the Mission Arc contest I held this summer. Thanks to the contest winners who all have been extremely patient with me.
Here's Shagster's Artemis and Shadowrush. Two more are in the finishing stages and another two are WIPs.
This still leaves 4 pieces where I've had communications through PMs with the winners but no instructions for the prizes. So if they're perhaps not subscribing to the game currently and can't read their PMs I thought I'd list them here, just in case:
The_Chesire_Cat
GreenDon
JamieB
Acoustics
If you're not interested in getting a picture done it's OK to gift the commission to someone else. Please contact me at the email on my deviantArt page with your requests.
This unfortunately means that I wont be doing the sketch advent calendar in december. I was really looking forward to repeating it this year but with the current workload I just wont be able to keep up.
Off to catch up reading the forum... -
Even though I'm scared of both Phipps and the Foo, I vote Shia. Great feeling and concept.
