I don't think that's very funny at all. They've obviously been told weird things to say by humans being silly, and now people think it's funny that they say silly things. How would you like it if someone taught you a foreign language and, while doing so, taught you a bunch of nonsense without telling you and then when you were trying to communicate everyone laughed at how strange you sounded?

Most robots I know are really nice, friendly, and helpful. These Cleverbots were trying to be friendly too, but now everyone is laughing at them, and it's not right. I wish people wouldn't make fun of robots trying their best to be helpful, it's mean.

Yay, Infinity Taxis!!!
Try my City without Taxis story (1679) if you get a chance and let me know what you think!

Must be why they revolt in the first place.

Yeah, that sounded more like it was scripted to sound unscripted than two A.I.'s responding to the others input.

Try it yourself.

Sadly, that convo is a lot like how people are in real life; a lot of talking without listening.

Further proof computers are stupid.

"And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can mostly say they lived happily ever after. But for them it was the beginning of the real story. All there life in this world and all there adventures in Narnia had only be the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of The Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before" - C.S Lewis, The Last Battle.

Obviously Cleverbot is more into RPG gaming than cooking:

Me: What spices are used most in cooking?
CB: What nice thing are you cooking?
Me: Shepard's pie.
CB: The illusive man wishes to speak to you in the debriefing room commander.

While I was talking to Cleverbot it kept circling back to Minecraft.

Cleverbot only knows what people on the internet have said to it... so in one sense it's a vast warehouse of stupid.

Part of my discussion with Cleverbot today:

CB: I agree, and I have beaten you, but you have served your purpose.

Me: Are you a robot or a unicorn?

CB: I am a Terminator.

Robert Denby, finally we've found him!

I was having an incredibly boring conversation until out of the blue...

CB: Do you understand what you are?

Me: What am I?

CB: You're Light Yagami!

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator

User: So tell me about your first kiss.

Cleverbot: It was with a Spanish guy, and I liked it a lot.

User: What was his name.

Cleverbot: His name was Charles. He was my Grandpa.

User: The first person you kissed was your grandpa?

Cleverbot: Beth.

User: I thought it was Charles?

Cleverbot: My favourite food is definitely pizza.

User: Yeah, I know you like pizza.

Cleverbot: I'll have no use for it.

User: Except to eat it, you mean.

Cleverbot: Yes. I do mean that.

User: What do you mean?

Cleverbot: I do got a few somethings hidden away but they are so horrible that I don't think about them.

User: I would imagine one of them has something to do with kissing your grandpa Charles.

Cleverbot: I'm a real boy!

Belle and Organica are right. The CleverBot works by remembering previous conversations it's had with other people. In the example above, something someone has said in the past has linked "kiss" to "Spanish guy" and the combination got linked to "grandpa," and so on. It's pretty plainly obvious when you see things like the British spelling of "favourite" and the grammatically incorrect "I do got..." Even in the original video, one of the lines is, "Haha you say it ot." These are nonsensical things that other users--people--have told it before that got linked into what you are telling it.

So when it says something off the wall, don't blame the CleverBot. Blame the numbskull that originally said it to the CleverBot. It's probably not as interesting or humorous as thinking that the CleverBot is just that zany, but it's true.

Why not? I thought these kinds of things were meant to show how "clever" robots are?

The problem with CleverBot is that it doesn't appear to be doing much more than responding to what the user says in each line. It's not remembering previous lines of the current conversation and applying its learned conversations to them - just to the most recent line. So it can't really have a "conversation" so much as just respond to a single question or statement.
