So are they playing the "who's gonna die next/who's gonna survive the series" guessing game yet, while you remain suspiciously quiet?
the only bit I let out, is that the Tyrion has quite a few good scenes coming. BTW I wonder what the actor's thought on the role? I would have to imagine its the biggest dwarf role in at least generation

Oh wow that is indeed quite amusing.

Sean Bean is such a great actor. After Ned "confesses" his treason, and then realizes Geoffrey is going to kill him anyway.... The look on his face as he bows his head for the cut, you can see him grasp the knowledge that he spent his honor for safety for his family and the realm, and that coin bought him neither. Fantastic acting, with just a facial expression that is shown for only a second or two. Bravo!

The acting, all around, has been top-notch, and that includes the kid playing Joffrey Bieber (just want to smack that little punk around). Usually child actors are the weak links, but Sansa, Arya and Joffrey have all been well-played parts. But, yeah, Sean Bean nailed that moment.

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

The biggest serious dwarf role anyway.

I'm curious as to how they are going to account for the child actors aging faster than their characters are supposed to.

Well, they're already older than they were in the books to begin with

Sometimes in life, things don't go the way you want them to go. It's just as Cerci said, 'In the Game of Thrones you win or you die.'
Sure they killed Ned. So sad and sorry that. But Rob is growing into a man his Father would be proud of.
Juicy parts in here for women as well. How's Kaitlan Stark for a Mother. And all I can say is y'all better watch out for Peter Dinklage. Best role ever for a vertically challenged person.
And Sansa now stripped of her girlish illusions, realizes that Joffery is so not worthy of her affections.
How rare for them to show everybody growing in wisdom and maturity, and the cost thereof, while still keeping us entertained with action, intrigue and the odd bit of fleshy indulgence. Bravo!

Yeah, I just started reading the first book and it was weird reading in the book Bran is only 7, Sansa 11, Dany 13, Jon 14 and Ned... 35? Not sure about anyone else's ages yet.

As for the child actors aging more quickly... there is no good sense of time in the show anyway. We heard that it took a month for the king to ride to Winterfell from Kings Landing, but since then it seems like everyone zips to and fro at the drop of a hat. I guess it's possible to imagine close to a year has passed on the show since it started while the actors probably only aged... what? A month or two?

Well they did say Spring 2012, so more like 9 months or so. But yeah.

Great finale, I actually clapped at the final reveal. Filming starts next month so we'll be getting a lot of casting news and hopefully book 5 coming out soon!

I have to confess I have all the episodes stored....and haven't watched one of them yet.

Maybe I'm in a very small minority, but I still haven't felt an incentive to watch this show. I'm sure it's very well written and all, but every time someone describes the basic plot to me, I keep thinking 'well, haven't I seen that in The Tudors, which is real life history and probably just as brutal?'

Maybe I'm just over fantasy or have trouble finding positives in the story. I'm not after a 'happily ever after' PG-13 thing, but as I get older as a viewer it seems, the harder I find it to enjoy stories where people demonstrate just how shockingly bad humanity can be.

Not knocking the show; maybe someone can give me some reasons to check it out that aren't 'watch it for the scheming and politics'.

Watch it, or don't. You were interested enough to save the shows, all it'll cost you is a few hours. It's an incredibly well done adaptation of an incredibly well-written series. Beyond that...well, I doubt anyone here knows you and your tastes well enough to make any cogent arguments. I certainly don't.

I have no idea if you'll like it or not, but I have serious doubts there are many real comparisons to the Tudors beyond swords and the occasional pay cable nude scene. I understand your hesitation given that now days all shows seem to be the same "there is no black and white, everyone is just a shade of gray" cynical tv. And there is some of that with this story, I'll admit.

But don't think there aren't characters that have honor and that there won't be characters to root for because there are -trust me- and some of them are as good as I've ever seen on TV or read in a book. Nobody is as innocent as they seem and some aren't as guilty either. No character is free from a sudden death and what seems like a victory on page 120 will be a painful heartbreaking defeat on 122. Everytime I think I know what is going to happen Martin takes it into a totally different direction that will over time make total sense.

It's not feel good TV, I'll give it that, but it is rewarding if you give it a try; I promise. In my opinion it's the best thing on TV in quite a while: quality production, great writing and acting and very true to the source material.

I liked the finale, but in my opinion it was the weakest episode of the season. Still really well done, but it felt like it was missing something.

After the weight of the previous episode, not much would match up anyway. This episode was less "conclusion" as it was all set up for season/book 2. All of those scenes are significant to what's to come in future seasons.

Right. Baelor was all the conclusion... Fire and Blood was almost 100% setup for season 2. Really, the whole of the first season was just setup and background for the real meat of the story.

It's been there but it doesn't caw words like in the book. Which is sad as some of it's lines are hilarious. But something tells me they might be sitting on that for a future episode.

Ok, so i finally watched the last two episodes (thank you Tivo). OMG, WTF, and any other three letter abbreviations I can come up with.

Spoilers...although now i think 'm the only one who hasn't read ahead.

Ned and Drogo, nnnnnooooooooo! Damn if i wanted the cool man characters to die i'd go watch Joss Whedon's work. Daenerys has gone up a notch on my list as well as Robb. Question. Does this season truely cover the 1st book? I want to read it now but not if there is anything that might give away season 2.

Yup. Book and season end at the same point.

And really, you don't ruin anything by reading ahead, at least if season 1 is any guide...you just supplant one kind of anticipation for another.

waaay late edit. The scene with Ayra starting her journey to The Wall is *not* in book 1, that's a book 2 scene. Martin leaves the reader hanging as far as what happens to her after the events shown in Baelor

Whedon ain't got nothing on GRR Martin. Just saying. Actually Ned and Drogo while awesome awesome characters aren't main characters as much as main catalysts for what's to come.

Robb and Dany are both awesome characters, expect much much more from them. Also be prepared to hate some characters only to fall in love with them later; this story has many twists and turns.

You are completely safe to read book 1 and not have anything spoiled but WARNING you will (I promise) want to immediately pick up Book 2 (A Clash of Kings) as soon as you're done. I started reading about halfway through the season because I couldn't wait another week to find out what happens next, then I had to know what happens after that and so on and so on. Needless to say I'm over a third of the way through Book 4 and waiting eagerly for Book 5 July 12th. And I'll be perfectly honest, even though I knew what was going to happen on the show it just made me love it that much more (much like Furio pointed out). Sean Bean's reactions in Baelor were so true to the character I even teared up a little even though I knew what was going to happen and Dany's "birth" scene still gave me goosebumps. Also the scene that really surprised me on the finale was Mormont and John's conversation about him trying to run. I thought it was written an acted so well, I did not expect to be moved as much as I would by it.

Reason 1: Tyrion. Tyrion is made of awesome.

Reason 2: The Littlefinger and Varys show. The way their interaction is portrayed in the series, they should get a spinoff. It would be like one of those buddy cop comedies. And it would be awesome.

I think that last bit in the last episode....my first reaction was "awww, CUTE!" Totally not the point there, but seriously....CUTE.

And the Old Bear is so much the "cool old guy" it's almost painful.
