Players experiencing crashing issues with the City of Heroes client

i have been experiencing these crashes often since i returned from the free week of play last week ( im subscribed to the game again on both account, loving i20 )

anyway, they occur for me when i encounter a large group of people, be it players or NPC hostiles, however; i own the steam version of this game and just on a whim i decided to verify the integrity of the game files, steam found 63 files were corrupt, most or all of which were pigg files ( assumed by the error i received when coh crashes, Corrupted .pigg files cannot be read. ), steam then went to repair this and since then i have had no issues. im not really a computer buff, so if someone here knows how i can check what files steam corrected, ill gladly post the info

another thought; i realized this issue with crashes has yet to be corrected as i logged on my other desktop and used the regular coh launcher and proceeded to crash every now and then, usually when entering an active area. The CoH launcher when i tried to verify the files found nothing wrong, so there MAY be more than one issue here...

Both my desktops run win. xp 32bit home edition

I would like to point out that the MASSIVE MEMORY LEAK in the CoH Client is platform agnostic, since it affects both the Windows and Mac Clients. Which means this problem affects EVERYONE.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Now, for a minute after the patch update on Monday, I was playing longer, but eventually crashed. I've done all I can on my end of switching, cleaning drivers, updating and rolling back drivers, ensuring directx functionality etc, etc,etc.

Now, I'm still crashing and essentially avoiding gameplay as a result for roughly two weeks now. Curious to know if there will be a prorated/adjusted bill for your customers as a result of services not being rendered in exchange for monthly payments as agreed upon per digital signatures?

I know you guys are working on this, but this is now treading into other areas as indicated above.

Not sure if this could be related or not, but every time I launch the NCLauncher I get his pop up:

The NCLauncher has detected a Windows Virtual Store folder for City of Heroes, and an install in Program Files. The
NCLauncher would like to remove the folder in your Virtual Store; not removing this folder could cause errors. Can
NCLauncher remove the folder below?

C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Progr am Files (x86)\NCsoft\City of Heroes


I always allow it to kill whatever it is that it wants to kill, and every time I use the launcher it pops back up. I've even manually navigated to said folder and deleted the file and it still comes back. Any ideas as to what this is?

For the crashing thing:

I already sent in my crash logs, but as early as a few days ago I could log in and play for a couple of hours before it crashed. Now it crashes immediately upon login, and I have not made any significant changes to the game or my computer. Should I resend my logs?

Whenever I click on the contact menu, it causes my game to freeze and never recover. I have done verified this on multiple servers with multiple characters.

Hi all...just wanted to add some testing info. I already sent the logs in 6 or 7 PM's...anyway...

Tried playing with vid card (geforce 9800GT) at Lowest, Mid range and Highest settings.

Lowest Settings I was able to get into: Close Screen, enter mission and fire one shot. (about 4min time with transition screens.

Mid Settings I was able to fly around a bit and get a mission half done (about 10-15min of activity)

Uber Leet Vid Settings I was able to complete a mission (about 40-45min) the first run but then crashed right after Log in entry ( >4min NO ACTIVITY)

Just ordered a new vid card and will re-post (re-send) new Logs when I get it (If it crashes still)

Hey- Sore point here...any retro reimbursement on the non-playable time or are we kind of boned here? I only brought this up because I spent $ to reopen my VIP account...then $ on Rogue...and now $$$ on a Vid Card where my old one works fine on everything else. Just Putting it out there...

Just rolled back drivers to check. Nvidia 9800GT 6.14.12.6099 as well as 6.14.12.7533 both have the same Crash-o-lisiousness in all three Vid card levels in game.

Starting on Sunday afternoon the game will crash and return to the desktop at the server select screen right after I select one of the servers. The first server I tried was Liberty, but it doesn't seem to matter which one I pick. When I played on Saturday I didn't have any problems with the game. I was able to log out cleanly and didn't have any crashes or disconnects during my Saturday game play. I have made no configuration changes whatsoever on Saturday or Sunday to either my computer or City of Heroes (unless CoH downloaded a patch this weekend that I'm not aware of).

I have tried running a repair and starting in Safe Mode. Neither has helped.

However, I have a City of Heroes Test installation and I can log into that without issue.

My computer is Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, 8 GB ram, NVidia GT435M

I was wondering if anyone has heard of this issue before and might know a solution.

I used a PM to send in the nslookup information and NCApplication.log file.

Meant to add what I get when I try to log into the game...

Wrong game version, run patcher and reconnect, server 2050.201106210214.1, client 2010.201105250125.1

When I try to patch, I get this...

Ravenwing,

Your first post today was timestamped at 9:42 AM Central time, which was within the scheduled Maintenance window of 6 AM to 10 AM Central time.

Your second post was at 10:38 AM Central time. Since it is a normal occurence for the servers to not be fully available for players to access by the end of the Maintenance period (especially when a patch is involved like today) it's possible that you were just a bit early.

The patch notes were posted at 11:10 AM and I usually don't see those up until the servers are fully up and accessible.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

ok so im havin a problem with the new launcher...it keeps trying to update then says it cant because of an already existing coh file/folder virtual store folder i beleive and asks to repair/delete to continue but that doesnt work so i manually delete it and then theres an error which isnt specified...(maybe it is n i just dont understand the tech speech) but ive tried to completely uninstall the game n re-install n the same prob keeps coming up so does any1 know what to do bout this?

Any suggestions or a solution that I can forward along to him would be great. Thank you.

In case you miss it, this thread in this forum gives instructions on how to fix it, as well as mentions looking into eliminating the problem.

Quick Update for the Mimester here...

Got the brand new vid card I ordered...it's a Ev3a GTX560 not top line but hey I'm poor...the crashing stopped. Just finished a 6 hour play test at Max settings and it didn't even studded.

Just keep in mind if you want to go for that fix - the card itself is about $200...and your power supply better have (2) 6 pin PCI ex plugs (or 4 molex lines) open or you will need to get a new power supply to feed the beast. I added a nice Black Widow power supply...all I need is some neon flashers and some fuzzy dice and I'm all pimped out.
