I'll share mine.

This is my first character and I just reached level 20. I'm new to the game.

I have a technology dominator and I like having powerful, gravity control abilities with some useful, energy assault abilities. I think it is the perfect balance of a powerful "spell-caster" and a good fighter.

My favorite, mechanically, has been Dark Armor / Ice Melee / Soul Mastery Tanker. It's enough different from the norm that it's always been quite interesting to play. The 3×Ice Dominator's quite fun from a combat perspective too.

I've been leveling a Broad Sword / Ninjitsu Stalker over the past couple of days. In addition to being the first Stalker ever rolled on my account (did you know Hide doesn't cost any Endurance???), it's also my first foray into the world of intentionally-excessive Defense, and even in the low 20's I'm experiencing the benefits of the soft cap (to melee, at any rate). I'm quite intrigued at how it'll end up.

Of course, every character I roll seems to be vastly different (and very interesting!) from any that came before it, and it's not always intentional. The Brute was designed simply to smush Rikti, but it's an AoE monster. The Defender was just rolled as an experiment, but it's in melee an awful lot for an Empathy. The Scrapper was designed to be the perfectly cliché villain, but has proven to be incredibly apt in battle...

I guess they're all my favorites in their own little way. Every powerset seems to bring something new to the table and there's always a lot of variety. Major props to the powers designers who managed to pull that off.

Yeah, Gravity/Energy dominators are pretty good.

As for me, I am making a point to not re-use powersets on my alts so I can play the most sets. However, my preferences do tend towards melee - scrappers are the most common of my alts - and I seem to come up with more character concepts that use Fire Melee, Superstrength, Katana, or Shield Defense.

Martial Arts, hands down. I leveled an MA/Invulnerable scrapper to 50. Then I leveled 3 different MA/Willpower scrappers to 50. Really! And two of them are my most played characters.

I even leveled an MA/WP stalker to 35, and I plan to eventually get to 50, and let me tell you, MA on a stalker is kind of sad. No leg sweep! But generally speaking, MA is just a ton of fun to play, based not on damage or anything but based on the animations.

Hmmmmmm.

276 alts. I play a lot of things. I don't really have "a build" I like. There are some sets that'll be a "go-to" for me, though.

For tanks, if I want to try out an armor set, it'll very likely go with Super Strength. Similarly, if I want to try an attack set, it'll probably get paired with Fire. Yes, I do have a Fire/SS.

Control-wise, Mind or Plant, quite frequently, with Earth or Ice afterward. Doesn't matter much if it's a controller or dominator. Can't stand Illusion... but I'm doing the same thing with Illusion that I did when I wasn't that fond of Masterminds and pairing it with other things. Ill/TA is, to me, bearable. It's still my absolute last choice for a controller, though (and I hope it's never a dom set, at least without massive revision.)

I'll take any flavor of Kheld. VEATs, only ones I seem to have the slightest fun with are Crabs or Huntsman builds.

And MMs... thugs. I seem to have a fair number of thugs. Or if I'm trying out a primary, I'll probably pair it with Poison.

Hmm, no combo i prefer over anything else. Its all about how the powers ties into the character concept.

Posted

Let's see.... I have 200 or so alts. with the only restriction being that I won't repeat a primary/secondary combination on the same AT. Some powersets I've almost reached my limit with very few combos unused.

Claws/... I've got 14. My only heroside 50 is a claws/SR scrapper so I know the set pretty well by now. The only drawback I find is that after playing it so much several of the other melee sets feel terribly sluggish by comparison.

For blasters in particular I love any combo of NRG/ and /NRG. Knockback is just too much fun.

ATs... my roster has 33 MMs, out of a possible 48 combinations. I think it's safe to say that's my favourite AT overall.

Finally, a dishonourable mention for Dual Pistols. The set itself is a bit lacking (too showy, not enough oomph) but it lends itself to so many different concepts I've got 18 of them.

Still one of the things I like playing most is my ill/storm troller.
Partly because all the visuals it comes with look mighty great and partly because of the INCREDIBLE versatility.

When in teams it can always fullfill a useful role, be it helping in aggro control with PA, intercepting ambushes with Spectral Terror and Freezing Rain until PA's recharged to do some real work, keeping mobs at bay from all casty blasty types with Lightning Storm and Hurricane or any of a million other imaginable things.
The build I'm using left plenty room for some goodies, like a Group Fly useful on STF (probably still my favorite TF which as a result I've always run regularly) Recall Friend, etc.
Recall Friend and Sup Invis make it a fine ghoster and perma-PA, Sup Invis and the OH-SHIZZLE-button known as Hibernate give it great survivability.

When dead it has a great comeback that works most of the time and just makes you feel cool to boot. Line up the insps properly, hit wakie -> breakie -> cab(by) -> Hibernate and giggle at all the mobs swinging their weapons at you while you recover. The moment Hiber ends drop a tornado point blank on your feet and away they go. Then the usual little stormie battlefield thing with Hurricane, Lightning Storm, Freezing Rain, Ice Storm, etc. Once you throw PA out there again you'll be fiiiiine.

Solo it's great fun too 'cause when your soft control isn't affected by others meddling in the affairs between you and the mobs you get greater control. It gets fun when you get corners in-door maps with a mob on both sides. Put PA as far in the corner as you can so both mobs draw to it, close the line behind them, unleash Hurricane, Snow Storm, Freezing Rain, Ice Storm, Lightning Storm, Tornado, Phantasm and watch them squirm.

I also like the versatility and situationality (Is this even a word? "the extent to which something is situational"? If not I hereby declare it one!) of particular powers such as Tornado and Lightning Storm. It really makes it a set you have to use your head with or it'll backfire.

Tornado for instance can potentially be great if you want to focus on an AV and not bother with all the minions around him. When minions appear it'll run around like a nutter to send them flying all over the place and when they're all out of range it'll happily sit guard on the AV again waiting for more. Additionally on the AV it works as a very good damage dealer to boot!

Lightning Storm I find to be one of the most awesome powers in the entire game even.

  1. It LOOKS awesome.
  2. I LOVE how you can use it for different purposes by tweaking the angle.

Honestly, I'm so in love with this set combo and have used it so much I could go on for hours about its borderless options, but I've probably already typed more than 5 times what's needed to keep half of this board's users from reading this post, so I won't.

I'll have to go with a SS/Fire brute. It's the ultimate easy mode character for me, with resistances (no need to pay attention), PBAoE attacks (no need to position), aggro control (no need to chase stuff) ; and on top of being so straightforward to play, it does very good damage.

I have found out that the typical builds just aren't for me.I have a ss/fa brute, a bots/ff mm, a rad/rad corr, a elec/elec/elec blaster, and others and I got them to 50 and know hardly ever touch them.

Offbeat builds and little used combinations are what I am currently getting into, I built a dark/inv scrapper, a grav/storm troller, and others, I am finding out that I like these toons better.

So my answer is builds that you typically don't see.

I tend to enjoy melee characters most of all. My absolute favorite is my fire/sr scrapper. My ss/shield brute just recently hit 50 and is a strong 2nd place.

Earth/Fire Dominator with perma levels of recharge. It's the thing that pretty much cured my altitis. If I'm on my game, I can handle x8 with very few problems. If I slip up for a few seconds, I die almost instantly. It gives me pretty much exactly what I want out of the game: I feel immensely powerful, but I also can't just zone out and fall asleep at the keyboard knowing that I'm untouchable.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

My Fortunata, and any Dark Miasma Defender you can think of.

Also, Gravity, which I hate to love. (HATE the powerset as it stands now, LOVE the theme of the set. I've probably tried to level it more than a dozen times, I just can't grin and bear it.) It's probably my favorite THEME for a control set ever (aside from Time control, which we dont have).

My favorite and fondest character was my first 50, my Dual Blades/Electric Brute. Back then, there was no self heal and I was only using non-set IOs and I was still having fun. She's a whirling dervish of chaos and fun. It helps that the concept is so off the wall, a demon warrior priestess (not princess!) that preaches and "enjoys" battle before Silver Mantis became famous for it. So when I get on RP teams with her, it's an absolute blast from start to finish. My most fun recent memory with her was running an In Character Apex a week after i19 came out (that we still finished successfully in 38 minutes). Everyone was gelling, the heroes spatting out disagreements, the villains showing a disappointing lack of devotion to battle. All in non-stop combat too. Battle Maiden was nothing more than a speed hump to the RP.

Oh, I also love my Necromancy/Trick Arrow. A lot of resummoning, no doubt, but tons of fun. Do I wish TA had better numbers on Masterminds? Sure, but I don't let insignificant numbers get in the way of fun.

Which ever one I'm playing at the time, it's really to hard to choose.

I also try not to repeat sets on characters and go out of my way to think of builds with different combos of pools as well.

That said, I still managed to have 3 Shield Defense characters and 3 Energy Aura characters. They're just versatile sets, IMO, that can cover lots of concepts.

Couldn't really pick a favorite. I do so love the style of my MA/SD character who does so many fun things with the teleportation pool. My new Fire/SD brute oozes style thanks to the special build I made up for him ^^. I made a new Elec control/Energy assault dom is pretty fun and can't wait to get her some stacking stuns. I haven't played my Dark/Sonic Defender in ages and want to but if I do, I'd have to lvl her other suits (FF/Energy and Sonic/Psy).

After the marathon session of lvling with my Fire/SD brute (got him from 1-47 without touching another character <_<), I have an itch to actually play my Demon/Pain MM but without some good carnie outfits for her, I just can't force myself to learn a style for her T_T

1. Ice/Ice/Cold Blaster. Great combination of ranged damage and control.

2. Energy/Regen Stalker. I like the stalker play style, but strangely enough this is the only build that I really like for stalkers.

Right now it's my defense capped Crab Spider with nearly perma pets, so much fun.

It depends on the mood I'm in.

If I feel playful, I play my Illusion/Kinetic controller because deceiving critters so they smack each other around, heal me instead, protect my with a force field generator, trundle into the middle of their group and explode, pound on a barrel full of dynamite until it explodes, etc. NEVER GETS OLD.

If I feel the need to let out some aggression I run one of my scrappers or brutes because cutting down hoards of critters is FUN.

If I feel the need to be protective I play my tank. "Over here you uglies, come get some!" and pull the alpha strikes.

So it depends how I'm feeling that day.
