It won't appear to be doing much, but give it 4 or 5 minutes and it'll return you back to the prompt and if you check your desktop you'll have a text file with all the info you need to provide in it.

FYI the reason for dumping to a text file rather than outputting to the console is that pathping typically outputs lines that are too long for the standard console width, which makes it hard to read.

Also, you can just run:
Code:
tracert boards.cityofheroes.com
but Pathping provides more information including things like packet loss.
K, I copied that to another file since if I can't get to the forums, I can't get to this post to see what I need to do.

But for now, access is back to normal.

Okay first thing I'll say is "sub-optimal routing".
Your ISP is essentially reselling or forwarding service through XO.
They then bounce out to the DC peering point for AT&T. It then drops down to Atlanta, GA, hits Dallas, TX, then bounces into Fort Worth on one node and out of Forth Worth on another node.

Not sure what the last two hops before the boards are. Locating one turns up something in Oklahoma. The second turns up a location out by me (Chicago). Probably old data, but it's possible those are actually peering points for Level3.

Not the worst routing I've seen, just...weird.

The worst I ever saw was a Covad line that quite literally crossed the country from east coast to west coast and back FIVE TIMES before bouncing back into Chicago to the server which was half a mile down the road from us. ...

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I get exactly the same route through AT&T from the UK, with an extra initial hop in NYC, so I guess they just have long-winded routing in place; the entire 12.0.0.0/8 belongs to AT&T so those last two are theirs as well just sans-PTR records.

Interesting thing I found out last night. I'm on dial-up and I have two different Internet backbones I can connect to. Right now I can look at the boards from either network but I can only login on one, the other reports back with some kind of failure. I'll try to see how different their routes are tonight.

Still proving too annoyingly difficult to post large text blocks from my phone. However, tracert not showing anything special, nor pathping. Given that I can occasionally pull the header.

It's become a Christmas day miracle to load the main site for me now-a-days. Forums are basically just as bad.

I'm no network wizkid, but with this many of us having problems regardless of browser or geographic location, there has to be either a common router we're all going through that sucks or something on the CoH server side.

It's really quite annoying is all I know for sure.

Seen this happening for the past few months on an infrequent basis.
When it happens I cannot access any internet sites but it clears once I close and reopen the browser so my guess is its a local caching issue - probably at the corporate firewall but others may be having this from ISP caching.

I'm having the same issue. The forums either don't load at all, or they take a ridiculous amount of time. Then they're fine and load ridiculously fast for a while, then back to the same thing again. Slow and or non-responsive at all.

For the record, I'm using Google DNS as my primary and secondary.

We'll see....

Ditto this... still.

When I'm having this issue, it's not just the forums I can't access either. It's also the City of Heroes website and NCSoft, so I can't access my account options or anything. And still only these sites. Absolutely no problems with anything else anywhere else.

*is very sad*

(and I'm copying this just in case the forums decide again that they're just teasing and not going to post my reply. )

Ditto on the ditto. When it's bad it's very bad. No CityofHeroes.com and no boards.cityofheroes.com. However they ping fine and tracert/pathping just fine.

I've been having better luck the last few days. Still some issues, but it's been good for the most part. Still frustrating as hell when it flat out refuses to load though.

Also for me, when it's down, the regular launcher just looks blank [although it can still download patches, the mini-browser stuff in it fails is all].

Very odd, makes me suspect it could be some place in the route packet shaping, but I dunno.

Ditto on the ditto on the ditto.

This is, IME, something of a Big Deal since, most of the time, the NCSoft launcher doesn't pull down news updates.

But ... as of right now, I'm good.

Or, maybe not -- I'm having trouble getting to Server Status from the launcher.

Edit: aaaaaaand now the server status page is loading.

Further edit: perhaps not coincidentally, my routing has gone from 17 hops to 13, going through alternet instead of some 102.x.x.x swamp.

I'm having the same issue, but I know basically nothing about computers and the internet other than "Type here" and "push this button to do... stuff" so I'm not even sure how I would provide any useful information beyond saying "forums are borked."

I'm finding that if I use Tor (proxy server), I can connect to the forums, while using a normal connection does not work.

Granted, it's slow, since I'm bouncing through Europe it looks like, but it's better than not having access at all.

Seems like the webpage is having issues with North American IPs?

For me to get on the forums I have to go through the launcher and click on the community tab. All my old fav links (for CoH forums) just spin and spin soooo yeah thats how I've been getting on and even then if I back out of a post I'm reading the spin doctor is back and now I click on the new fav tab I made from the launcher and it re-loads really fast but then I regress back to the usual same/same thing when I go to the back button...rinse and repeat

I haven't been able to get to the forums in the last couple of days. This was using Firefox which is my usual browser. Right now I'm using Chrome and the forums loaded just fine. Same thing with IE9 which I tried just to see what would happen.

I'm now in on firefox and may have narrowed down the problem. I went into my security settings and unchecked Block reported attack sites and Block reported web forgeries. Then I clicked on the bookmark and the forum loaded lightning quick. Other people can experiment more with this, and I'll try fiddling around myself later on but right now I need some sleep.

Ignore the previous two messages. It was just a freaky coincidence in both cases. So what was the name of Wesleys coh board again and is it still around?

That... just doesn't make any sense at all.

None of these reports and accounts make any sense at all when you group them together. There's gotta be multiple, unrelated problems going on here.

While I agree that a couple of the posts in this thread aren't related to the issue, the issue is, for about a third of the users, cityofheroes.com and ncsoft.com aren't accessible (myself included).

And from the looks of it, ATT is to blame. My own trace route shows a close to 300ms ping as soon as I hit the hop at att.net.

Whether or not that's something related to ncsoft's servers, that's what we'd like to find out. Can they fix it, or should we all be calling our ISPs and telling them to get on ATT's case?
