Forum not loading problem back.

My old computer that's running Windows XP/Firefox 3.6.16 loads fine with no problems whatsoever but, my new one that's running Windows 7/Firefox 4 would get these loading issues.

Vista at work has zero problems loading the forums.
Windows 7 at home has been having constant issues with not loading, slow loading mashing the refresh in hopes of something happening.

What exactly IS going on with NCSoft lately?
And I don't just mean the forums not loading.

My work laptop (Win 7, IE8) forums work fine on, no trouble.
My own desktop, (Vista, IE8) forums refuse to load. Usually work after a reboot tho.
Both computers connected to same router and same isp.

I'm on Win7 with Firefox 3.6.16 and have the issues.

I really think it's basically random, maybe affected by server load. I'm not sure anything on our end has anything to do with it, except possibly things relating to data in client side cookies we send to the servers. I'm not sure load really matters either, as sometimes I can't get pages to load reliably even in the dead of the night US time.

I still think it might be something in the PHP or database is because I never seem to have a problem downloading the server status XML feed. I'm guessing it's served up by a very simple app that may never have to visit a database table. At least not one stored in the database that underlies the forums and/or main site.

Win7 with Firefox 3.6.16. Been having the issues for some time, now. Weird thing, is I could use do a google search for the City of Heroes forums, and the preview would work, letting me see the forums, but when I'd click to the actual address to load into the browser as a whole, then it would hang. Sometimes, I could just keep clicking the link to the address and it would push through, other times, it just wouldn't budge. After reading this thread though, I uninstalled the Yahoo toolbar from firefox and now I don't seem to be getting any issues, connecting to either the forums or the main site. Course, this is also at 1:20am on Sunday, so I'll have to try, later, when there is more server load, to make sure the problem is truly gone.

Bizarrrrrrrre.
I was hoping it was at least location based: XP, Vista & 7 home machines all cannot get in. Work 7 machine is just fine... I can remote home from work too and verify that it is working at the same time the others aren't.

Meh. So, problem is back now. I have absolutely no clue, here.

The problem is clearly on their side. If it's not on their side, the only alternative is that it is between them and us and only affects return trip traffic. However, I believe that the ability to consistently, repeatedly download the server status XML feed shows this is not the case. I think it's the forum and site software. In my experience, the first place I would look is the interaction between the forum/board software and the database that feeds it content.

Edit: By the way, the problem is absolutely horrid for me right now, and I'm caching all the javascripts and images. (More to come later on that.)

I might extend that to all of the cityofheroes.com domain. When I am having issues loading the forums I am also unable to load anything in their website.

This is from 2 Different PCs with Win7 and does not seem to matter if I use Firefox 3.xx or 4 or IE 8 or for kicks Aurora

I am obviously not having an issue right now, but that changes throughout the day.

Except for the server status XML feed. Since there are no frills on the XML feed - no template or style sheets, etc. - I'm guessing that, while that page is probably a PHP program like the rest of the site, it probably doesn't have to connect to the same back-end data store the main site does.

Gah! This thing is annoying.

Getting it at home (Chrome) and at work (IE). I can be in and loading fine, and then it just dies. All other sites and pages loading normally. Wait a while and fine again.

(Glad it's not just me, but not glad.)

Was working for a bit. Just got back from vacation and it's back to (ab)normal.

First time in 4 days I've been able to load the Website, let alone the forums. We'll see how long this lasts. Win 7; Firefox 4, Chrome 10.0.468

There are some pretty low values of "can play" out there.

Today, they completely broke the main site. Around the same time, I stopped having any problems accessing the forums. It's been better this afternoon than it's been in weeks.

Currently, the main site is back in service.

I wonder what they did.

When I have the problem, all the computers that share my internet access can't access. Even my Ubuntu box.

However, my phone readily gets in.

May be packet-shaping fail on a provider side, but I don't really have much desire to call my neighbors and ask if they can get on the boards . I may try it in the future, but. Blahe.

Here's hoping it got fixed . It hasn't logged me out surprisingly enough.

That's interesting new info to me. I wonder if the web infrastructure for the CoH site (and forums) is shared with any of the core NC North America web infrastructure. If it is, it still could be something going on with a shared back-end (perhaps a single server hosting all the site databases). If not, that does point to some sort of network *****. That's somewhat supported by the phone always working, but oddly conflicted with the server status XML feed. It would need to be some sort of return packet screw up only for files above a certain size, or possibly only of certain MIME types. Anything is possible, but man would that be weird.

Edit: The fact that it censors "foo bar" makes it look far worse than it really is.

I dunno, I have a suspicion it may be their flash-headers, but I'm too slack to check the site with lynx... Hmm, although, I guess I prolly should add that to my list of checks if it occurs again.

Took better than 20 minutes to get to this post this morning while I was doing some other work related stuff. On my work laptop Win7 IE8 and FF4, java and flash are current.

Again, nothing cityofheroes related would load for me for that period, then suddenly it acts like nothing was ever wrong, loading fast.

It's not. I wrote a Python program that downloads from the site, and it hits the problem. It doesn't do any page parsing, so it doesn't handle anything that's "on" the page, and it definitely doesn't understand Flash. It hits hangups downloading from the main site and the forum, but not the server status XML file.

The forum refuses to connect for Firefox for me, and IE is slow going as far as scrolling is concerned. This started with I20.

Sooooooooooooooooooo I guess no devs are checking in on this thread eh?

Can the problem really be this narrow? Only hitting a few of us at random, but hitting hard?

I'm probably adding additional to the servers by doing this, but I can only reliably access the site by going here: http://cohdigest.appspot.com/ and repeatedly clicking a link until I get a "good" connection (it's easy to see -- the site will come up fast).

Once I'm into the forums, rinse and repeat. Makes posting a bit of a bear, mind you.

I have the same problem, for 2 weeks now, but last night realized it was Firefox, just don't know how to fix it, the site seems to zoom load on Safari, and slightly better than Firefox on IE8 which I never use.
