This is what everyone who's sick of Evil Goatee Earth is saying so I'm not sure where there's any argument. I was responding to Blue_Mourning's assertion that Praetoria 2.0 is somehow "deeper" than before. That's only true from 1-20 Gold side. Anywhere else and it's still as generic as you can get... "Yes, but it's EVIL Synapse!"
Compared to what it used to be, the Praetorian story is INFINITELY more complex. I've played through all the content, and it's by no means just "Evil Goatee Earth". Hell, the only Praetorian left from the original storyarc that could still qualify as that is Dominatrix, but that's mainly because after her backstory was retconned, she was never given an updated story and personality to compensate. Within the new continuity, the Praetorian NPCs are now "The ends justify the means in a post-apocalyptic world" kinda people. Not nice, not "heroic", but certainly not polar opposites with curly mustaches. If anything, they're the Freedom Phalanx NPCs taken to their extremes.

Except for mother Mayhem. She's absolutely off her rocker.

Primal Earth NPCs who perceive ALL Praetorians as just being "evil clones" are doing so based on limited information. Most Primal Earthers who were to meet their Praetorian counterpart - assuming that their counterpart wasn't killed by the Devoured Earth - would likely find them to more or less be the same as they are. Y'know, accounting for the fact that in most parts of Praetorian Earth they're still fighting for their survival.

Which, oddly enough, was shown with the Dark Watcher arc in Praetoria. It is an uphill battle. I will say though that is, perhaps closer to the DS9 rendition of the evil goatee universe than say the TOS rendition.

Then, there's also the Goodie-two-Spandex-shoes universe .

Just a fun thought, doesn't this also mean that the Beta and Test servers will get merged as well?

Past level 20 on Gold side? Yeah, it is. "Look! All the heroes from your world... but they're EVIL! Rrwar! They're going to destroy the world! Rrwar! Every story is now about Evil Heroes From Evil World coming to destroy you!"

Is it any deeper than that? Do you run the new Jenkins arc or Apex or whatever thinking "Wow, what nuanced characters with complex motivations?" Not really. It's Evil Goatee Earth with a slightly different backstory but ends up being Evil Goatee Earth all the same.

For Apex specifically, there were the Warworks comments about limited civilian casualties and the remarks about Marchand.

True, but it made me think of this scene when the Warworks started broadcasting about their good intentions.

Now and then. Not enough lately for me to renew.

Probably the worst part is that I used to love Praetoria, but all this Incarnate ******** has ruined it for me.

Well, the only Praetorians we've gotten to know again through gold side are Tyrant, Marauder, Anti-Matter, Neuron, Mother Mayhem, Chimera, Dominatrix, and Mynx. We don't really get to relearn the motivations of Battle Maiden, Black Swan, Malaise (though that might not be too hard), Infernal, Diabolique, Seige and Nightstar until we actually have to fight them, so for all we know they could still be the "using your blood to write on the wall" kind of nuts that we already know.

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)

My characters have been shouting "DON'T RUN. WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS!" on Apex TFs too.

I suspect that the EU players will get access to the North American Test and Beta servers while the EU Test server will be decommissioned. Having two "Test" servers isn't really needed for the population that does testing so the only benefit is to test different code revisions simultaneously which is what the current Test and Beta servers already do.

Unfortunately, CO is doing a street clothes pack. May ensure we don't get one.
I think at this stage of it's life, Champions Online is a complete non-factor for City of Heroes.
While I might agree CO is no longer a "threat" to CoH (assuming it ever was) I still think it's relevant to CoH at least as far as what we can cherry-pick from them to make our game even better. We already "borrowed" their Walk and Acrobatics (a.k.a. Ninja Run) powers so I see no reason why we can't borrow other things they actually do well. For instance I'm still hoping we'll eventually borrow CO's "additional costume slots" feature. And if CO is doing a street clothes pack that'll probably actually motivate our Devs to do the same.

What would be interesting is if some of the Praetorians get to our world and look around and then turn on Cole. Essentially going rogue from Cole's point of view but turning from evil to good from our POV, because they realize that our world is significantly different from theirs and that Cole's rules do not apply here.

I'd actually like to read the comic based on that. Hell, I'd like to *write* the comic based on that.

[I think I am going to write something for a super-goody-two-shoes alternate dimension... Maybe it will result with an intervention/invasion on our Prime]

Why? Surely the "all-Praetoria, all the time" current focus of the Incarnate system would delight any fan of Praetoria?

Despite your dogged insistence otherwise, the Praetoria presented in Going Rogue had more variety and depth to it than a simple goatee-universe ruled by a power-hungry Tyrant bent on ruling the multiverse. The developers have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that shallow is better than deep.

No it didn't - they both have the same depth, it's just that at the lower levels, Tyrant's full plans aren't revealed.
Don't forget that the devs work on several Issues in advance, so even while they were working on GR, they would also be working on I19 and I20 - Marauder's request for you to pick flowers comes form the same development period as Marauder doing his rabid dog routine in the Lambda Sector Trial.

They like to claim such. Evidence suggests otherwise.
