Would You Be Willing to Delay the Lore Slot to Change the Pets?
I think my biggest issue with the Lore slot is this:
For a power whose heading is "Lore" there should be a story reason why we're getting these powers. Things like Judgement, Destiny, and Interface can make sense for people's heroes because it can be a development over time of your character's powerset. The well is there, but is incidental. With Lore, the Well suddenly takes front seat and dictates to you how your power will evolve - and this isn't particularly what bothers me.
What bothers me is that if that's what they wanted to do, then there should have been a storyline supporting it - you go to the well, and you tell it "I'm taking on your champion and so far I've beaten the best he has to offer. He's pathetic, and I will overcome him. You should reward me." If you did that and the well rewarded you with a "memory" of those that you defeat that would make the slot make a little bit more sense. Even if that's what's actually happening, having a cut scene where that takes place, or just having a text over lay would go a long way to making it more palatable.

I wish they had final pets that complemented the existing powersets.
Static Ward: Electric theme. Ball of electricity (kinda ho-hum but allows for all origins) or a bigger elec imp (like the cap monster) body type. Little lighting blasty/control about what you'd ecpect from a Mu or Outcast shocker type boss.
That would handle electicaly oriented toons.
Power Guardian: Depicted as another ball or phantom glowy dude like illusion pet. Does a bunch of Blasty blappy stuff... perhaps a nice +end buff for owner. Perhaps it's a 4 min non recharge enhancable pocet kinetisist? Fits the bill for energy types anyway.
Dark Reaper: Have this one be a dark servant... Minus the stuff he has and switch him to a melee AI with an axe/dark armor combination. Props if you create an Axe that looks either like a scythe and or shadow-axe or shadow/scythe and open that weapon up for Axe player toons. Why? Cause AXE needs this kind of love. Handles the needs of anyone with shadow type powers/theme and is just plain badass.
Blade of Artemis: Basicaly calls a boss class Knives of Artemis chick to come fight for you. Handles any Natural/Ninja/Mercenary needs.
Finger of the God: Basicaly a mobile version of Storm's tornado. A real "Twister" Upgrade the animation quality/density and add some serious damage/effects. Handles the more Wrath of the gods elemetal types. This one Sticks close to the caller and does Knockup. So those damned monster class critter's will at least 'feel' it from time to time. Perhaps it wouldn't last a full 4 min considering it couldn't be 'killed'. Hmm that one would almost be cooler as a PAOE or debuff replacement eh? hehe
Then some Fire critter thingy... An Ice pet... just use the CoT frost demon body... the crystal titian look with the cryo aura on it. Anything...
Or allow us to call forth and summon one of the many "Gladiator pets" weve pounded into servitude over the years. As real... you know... pets.
You know stuff like this. I find it funny that theyre being so diligent in keeping the AOE Booms and the Debuff's/Buffs along the same themes we have in the orginal powersets but the pets are, whatever looks cool from Going Rogue by what I've read.
lol... Then again.... Are we at least getting a Vanguard 4 min giant robot that we don't have to pay ungodly amount of merits for? I'd buy into that... I like Vanguard stuff. Damn though, I've yet to make that robot on any toon yet. Maybe if merits wern't toon specific...
Anyway, enough from crazy me.
Cheers all!

No, thank you. As much as I dislike the Praetorian Lore pets, I would ABHOR them if the game tells me specifically how I got them. I would rather be able to make my own story -- for example, I reprogrammed a robot to work for me.

The only problem I have with the Lore slot is that it has an Incarnate shift attached to it. I will get the Seers Lore slot and maybe the Warworks Lore slot since I like pets. However, forcing people to slot a rare Lore slot because they only want the Incarnate shift is not fair.
If game resources is the main reason why we can't get customizable Lore pets, then how about Game Client Customization where my customized Lore pet only looks customized to my screen and to everyone else it looks a regular Praetorian Pet.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
It's easier to ignore without a mission or cutscene that tells me how I got it, which is what I thought Blue Mourning was suggesting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: YOU are the Coming Storm. All the echoes in the first incarnate mission talk about how you have misused and gotten drunk on the power of the Well. The Coming Storm is a future where you, the player, have gotten too much power and destroyed everything.
That gives heroes a perfect opportunity to avert the Coming Storm, by learning humility and self-discipline. ...I'm kind of at a loss on how villains will prevent the Coming Storm, but I'm sure the story writers will decide on a motivation for us. |

Obviously I'm strolling in late to the subject but I do want to add my 2 cents. I intensely dislike the Lore slot as long as it's tied to Pets, and especially if it's tied with Praetorian pets. I got nothing against Praetoria or the storyline, but he majority of my Alts don't have it as a concept or background. Then there's the whole thing where the characters I make like to roll self contained with their powers, meaning no Pets.
Don't think I hate Pets, I don't, I love my Materminds. But I love them as Masterminds and not my Peacebringer & Pets. Now if I had go get pets, could I at least get some choice from the many, many factions in game to better fit my concept and theme rather then have it forced on me. And yes, I understand it's not being forced on me, I have a choice, but I do want to be a full Incarnate, with full level shifts, so in essence I have to take it.
I won't use Lore for a majority of my characters, but I will take it. But it would be nice to be able to work my theme in it, rather then have a theme pushed on me.
Arcanaville saved all of our lives!!
I may as well chime in on topic with my most amazingly ignored and disregarded opinions!
I agree with many others (especially with how Oedipus and Arcana have summed things up) that the whole idea behind the Lore Slot (and other aspects of the incarnate/well stuff) seems like a bit of a mistake, to me.
That's really just opinion though... as, an artist is free to make "mistakes" that will leave some people not-entirely-happy with the results.
Usually, that just means too bad for those of us who don't like how it is.
Still... My reasons for not liking the whole Lore Slot is basically that the idea of including Pets at all goes a bit beyond what I was looking for in End-Game progression.
However, (and that should be a big gigantic however) if I/you/we don't really have to use each and every power from each and every slot... and we can get by quite sufficiently (if not stupendously) without using certain one or two powers/slots along our way to kicking some epic buttocks...
Then no real harm or foul at all (and bonus for those who do want such a thing as a pet power).
If using and/or obtaining the pet power is a major part of functionality and/or progression... then... Never mind customization, I'd be perfectly willing (and wanting) to wait quite a long while as they re-figured that entire plan.
Thems are just my opinions...
And no matter what any fool may wish to paint them as, they're just my casual opinions and observations about the matter.
So, (Not that I, nor likely many other posters here, think that any such delay will happen) I'd have zero issue with the Lore Slot being delayed.
However, my dislike of the power wouldn't really be fixed with Non-Praetorian options. The whole notion of summoning essences of the well in humanoid manifestations (or the like) is just beyond anything I'm interested in playing out with any of my characters.
Customization (or plethora of options), of course, could allow for more wiggle-room/hand-waving/re-writing of where/what/how the story of this NPC companion fits in.
I just hope that some of these Incarnate Powers can be treated like power selections from your Primary/Secondary... where it is perfectly fine to skip over/not choose some.
