Oh man, I know exactly what you mean.

I'd love to play CoX at work, but first I'd need for people to stop turning down my applications.

I play "at work" all the time. And by "at work", I mean that I'm a courier who's on call nearly 24/7. I call in and take a few hours off if I wanna do some TFs, otherwise I make sure to tell the team that I'm on call and might have to leave with little warning.

The good: Work is slow (especially in the evenings) so I theoretically could play from work, and my boss likely wouldn't know, and probably wouldn't care if he did as long as I wasn't playing instead of working.

The not-so-good: My computer at work is not good for gaming. My internet connection is not fast enough when it's up, and it's a rare shift where it doesn't slow to a crawl or go down altogether; we're supposedly going to be able to get DSL Soon™.

So no, I don't play at work, although it's mostly because of technical limitations. I do have Mids installed, so I can play with that.

Nothing "sneaky" about it. I needed to do some testing of a program on a busy computer, so I loaded up CoH (the patching process makes a good disk load) and ran a few missions.

I am a domestic engineer so yes I play all the time at work.
i tried engineering domestics for a while. Funny thing, people think more than four limbs is disturbing in a domestic. And the whole thing with the "uncanny valley"... So, yeah, not engineering domestics anymore.

The systems at my current job can't play CoX very well, and most of the time i'm too busy using various tools anyway.

Before we moved to this new building last year I used to play CoH, and even voice chat, from my office at work all the time. But now in this new office I don't really do it much. I jump on for some WW checking or a few minutes of chatting with friends but don't really do missions/TFs/whatever anymore while at work.

I do, however, do almost all my forum browsing and Mids stuff while at work >.>

I'm opening a game store soon (ccgs, minis, boardgames, and rpg's) - well, soon meaning in around 3 months. I suspect things will be rather slow at first, so I'll probably play a little CoH in the store now and then.

But, since our business IS games, I won't feel guilty about it. We're debating trying to put in a full LAN area (the cost of 6 PC's is the prohibitive factor), with video projector, so people could play things like, mostly, console games in the store, projected up on the wall. If we do that, maybe showing CoH off a little would generate some interest, and some new subs, even.

If we're too busy for me to get any CoH time at work, I won't complain!

A long time ago, I used to log in from work. I have a lot of downtime at work and used to design characters, play the market, and chat with people. I couldn't really team and run any missions, but I was available for people to chat and stuff.

Then one day IT blocked the game and TS and Vent from the network...

(I still get to do 90% of my forum browsing at work though)

Suggestion: Rent the computers. You can put down the rent as a business expense tax write-off, you don't have to worry about the computers depreciating over time. And when the software industry starts out-pacing your hardware you can just upgrade to a better rental. Also, if it doesn't turn out to be a money-generator for your business, you can always terminate the rental contract. Minimal risk or loss.

Oh yeah. And the owners of the company are good friends of mine. As long as I get my stuff done, am not pirating anything, and not browsing porn on company payroll, it's pretty much on.

Still, I don't normally team at work. As others have said, I don't know when I might need to go idle and it's not fair to teammates.

For a couple years I had an overnight job in which my main duty was to not fall asleep. So for a while I was basically paid to read books, watch movies and of course play lots of CoH.

I was always under the impression that CoX sort of was your "work" now, Steelclaw.

A labour of love, obviously, but you seem to approach it a little bit from that standpoint.

I would play at work occasionally (during lunch and inbetween classes--I am a college teacher), but our computers here suck compared to my gaming rig at home. I do sometimes use Mids to workout the details of a respec here at work.

As much as I'd like to play CoX at work, the PCs are too crappy and even if they weren't IT has user rights and internet access severely restricted, so I doubt I'd get it running even if the pcs could handle it. I can't even get on the forums at work.

I do however play Dwarf Fortress at work since it doesn't need "installed", nor a net connection

I'm a surgeon. There's no way I can play CoX at work. The mouse gets all messed up.
