Animal Pack - Feedback Thread
I like the options overall, and the cats seem very well done. The minotaur seems to work out well, although I haven't played with those options as much. But if you want feedback...
Big huge gripe#1... no "animal fur" for flat boots. You can put animal fur on the basic smooth boots, but that's it, and that leaves a nasty heel. You can play around with patterned tights on flat boots, but the colors don't match well with fur (and, well, don't look furry). This leaves monstrous legs as the only decent option for a barefoot animal character, and sometimes that doesn't suit well either. Simple fix is "animal fur" available on flats, bonus points if we could get a simple clawed look (with normal legs!) to go with it.
Big huge gripe#2...goes back to an old problem, but the new fur looks awful in white. No matter what skin color you have selected, white fur shows up over very visible pink skin (and the fur itself is pretty grey). I know it's an issue with the base texture having pink and "white" meaning "add nothing," but it just looks bad. It also makes the one character that I was hoping to really use the pack for, Snow Leopard, very sad for obvious reasons.
Somewhat smaller but general blanket gripe: Birds? Well, sort of... They really feel "thrown in." You get one head, and it's pretty specific. The beaks are nice, points for that at least. You get one nice set of feet, but only if you use monstrous legs... and no feathers anywhere (except in the emotes, but those don't match anything in your costumes). No birdlike feet for normal legs, no non-raptor heads, no patterns at all for the head, no tails (!), no feathered patterns for anywhere (!!), and no wings(!!!). I totally grant that we have very nice "angel" wings as a vet reward, and I'm happy with them. But obviously not everyone has access to them, and this would be a perfect time to try something different. But to put in 5 pieces out of 60-something... I'm confused. I'd rather have them than not, but it feels incomplete.
Lesser issues:
- All the heads seem small to me. I find myself basically doubling the scale in all directions every time to get them to "feel" right.
- Also, not much variety in the bull/wolf heads. At least some more patterns (two-color wolf for more dog/fox/hyena possibilities, spots! for cows) would be nice.
- I also wish the new heads accepted more accessories, hats, hairstyles, etc., although I understand the issues. Right now they are pretty "all or nothing."
- Hiss emote is... well, it has its uses, but I wish I had one my male characters might use.
- Why have the obviously monkey-based emote (savage) in a pack with no monkey pieces? (or: why no monkey pieces?)
- Whatever happened to the (early CoV) fur shoulder piece? Would love to have it back with these...
- Wish we could do animal fur with smooth/bare gloves. Works great with monstrous gloves, would just like a "softer" option.
- Wish we had some of the new cat-fur patterns available for normal faces. Snow Leopard still has to fake things with the generic "spots" on a feline face. For that matter, I wish we had better hybrid faces with this, but I guess that's a little off the topic.

Mostly liking what I see here, though it's a shame we cant get hats and glasses on these beast heads, and still no Kilts/Skirts/Shorts on the monstrous legs.

Objective:
The animal fur options for boots are only found on smooth (which have heels) and not on Flat.
(I've noticed a tendency to treat smooth boots as the standard and neglect flat [tights sleek for males comes to mind, at least] I don't think anyone would disagree that the flat boot/feet options should have the animal fur)
Smooth/Bare Gloves also do not have an animal fur option and probably should, no?
Instead, you have to use Monstrous Gloves (which, is not so bad, of course).
Correct me if I am wrong, but I am thinking that a few things are yet to be implemented (Wolf Head options, the above animal fur options and possibly Beast Run jump animations, among other possible items).
My apologies if I am incorrect.
Subjective:
The artwork is great. The modeling and textures are very nice!
I have to admit though... That the limitations of the animal heads is disappointing. I get it. There's not much that can be done about it, apparently. You've done some work to provide a little bit of customization... but it really results in a little bit of customization.
Head scales (other than height, width and depth) not working for the animal heads, while expected, is just disappointing.
That being said... if there is no way around that, there is no way around it.
However... what is a bit of a workaround is providing animalistic faces for normal heads.
A few options for normal heads to create animal characters would go a long way to solving a lot of problems. People want to wear hats, glasses, hairstyles, masks, and so on... I get that it can't be done with the large monstrous/animal heads.
A few animal faces and animal snout/beak/fang/brow/eye/ear/hair options would go a long way in allowing the great customization that this game is loved for.
We have the Feral, Reptilian and Feline... Some new ones along with different detail 1s and 2s and ears and hairs could allow for player character variety akin to CoH.
The modeled animal and monstrous heads results in customization more akin to other far less customizable games. And I think that's a bit of a shame.
The new animal fur is a nice job in allowing the option to add patterns along with the fur-covered bodies.
Finally providing the fur-covered legs is wonderful. Thank you!
Please please please make sure you add in the animal fur for Flat Boots/Feet and not just Smooth Boots (the heels are a bit odd).
The Wolf Heads really need some options for customization (Are these still to come?).
Some patterns such as a fox pattern would be great. Some other options could be spots/patches and mask-like patterns (maybe even something raccoon-like?).
The ability to choose the secondary color for the pattern on the Grey Wolf is almost required (this is CoH, is it not?). (And I mean that in the flattering sense. CoH is the king of customization and that should be maintained and pushed forward)
We should be able to make those colors match a German Shepherd and such things. I truly hope that is coming.
They should have some other ear options as well. Bigger ones, ragged ones, falling/folded ones... add in some large fox ones and you'd open up a lot of room for ideas.
The Monstrous Cat Paws could really use a small (What is already there) and large(er) option.
Complaint here: It seems like so many options only allow one color when it begs for two color options. The Lion Mane leaps to mind for that. I understand it is because you can add the pattern options... But the none option should allow for some highlight/color blend options like most hairstyles, in my opinion.
All in all... The one thing that I think is a mistake about the heads in this pack is that the options are great for set pieces working together, but do not allow for bat ears on cat heads with ram horns and insect eyes.
That is the kind of thing that this game's customization should continue to be built upon.
The sets look beautiful. They just can't be altered a whole lot to make them as individualistic as most other options in this game. And without being able to use hats and other head details, most people looking to make animal options will either look very similar or will still feel that this game lacks the options to make their ideas for animal-like characters.
Also... Amazing Ape thanks you for the fury legs and the savage emote.
Oh... and for Beast Run (I'm pretty sure).
Thanks for the nice work and for reading/listening. I hope it makes some sense and possibly helps somehow!

Oh... and shoot, how could I forget... Please, could you make some Paw and Claw and such options for Boots on regular legs?
Some Monstrous/Animal Boots are severely lacking in options. Some monstrous looking feet would be sweet!

BEAR idea: From the Cat head COULD you design and add a BEAR head please? Bigger and wider head and flat black nose, little longer snout with thicker fur ! The ears are almost right on, just a little bigger and higher. Not a big change but would add a whole new animal in the booster!
Wanted: BEAR costume pieces for 69 months and so do a LOT of players! A real type of bear tail, hands/claws and feet/paws too!
Natural Claw/paws swipe in Claw power please!
Monster fur/ animal fur on human legs to feet! For Kilts, Clasic B&W Lon Chaney Jr. werewolf man, etc
Greeeeeaaat job on the tigers, wolves etc.
Thanks again for a sweet playing game!
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I also agree that the heads do not scale enough. They should be able to scale considerably larger.

Like a lot of what is in the pack currently but a few things me and my fiance were kind of thinking would really sell this pack. A couple have been stated before like hats on animal heads (Werewolves with top hats, so terrifying and dapper) along with Monkey and Ape costume pieces a few things we haven't seen yet are:
1) Raccoon Tails - Just a lot of comedy and interesting character concepts that I can think of with just one additional tail.
2) Improved Cat Tail - The original cat tail, even the animated one, seen in comparison with the new tails really shows it's age and doesn't really work with the leopard or tiger pieces very well, same with the old lion tail, I see me using the Minotaur tail for any lion characters I'd ever make.
3) Actual Claws for the Claw powerset - I'm sure it's something everyone thought about, even for a moment when they heard of the animal pack, at least the people I talked to.

Just a bit of a suggestion: Add tiger and cheetah/leopard tails
Subjective Feedback :
Positives- Parts look clean.Given limitations, customiseable parts are well integrated. Multiplicity of parts are useful. Ability to colour the faces etc.. also great! Costume change emotes look spiffy and useful even if you don't use the animal parts. Beast run seems fine in terms of sound, forward jumping and running. Emotes are light hearted and well executed for what they are. I can see usefullness for the auras, outside of the animal realm.
Suggestions- Faces could use more secondary shading, as an example, it may be silly, but in a superhero game I think the faces could use a couple domino masks. Beast Run needs a backward jump animation, akin to Ninja Run's. I hope alternate claws weapons will be looked at in the future, because I think it would complete the pack. Nice ape emote, now we just need the parts =].
Great job overall and a solid buy, for me, even if I never use some of the parts.
Pinnacle & Virtue:
A bunch of Heroes - Alpha Team, Legion of Order.
A bunch of Villains -Black Citadel , Pinnache.
Feedback:
Beast run: Looks good. Any way we can get this and ninja run to not toggle off combat jumping? Doesn't really fit the minotaur who really needs a more lumbering run/gait, but the idle pose fits the minotaur great.
Emotes: look fine. They don't work with shield defense at all.
Costume Change: look great!
Patterns: look good. Not in tops with skin.
Animal Heads: Are not in a single category. Shouldn't these all be in with mostrous? or at least their own single Animals category? We have a lot of things like this that should be reorganized for easier sorting of lists and finding parts.
Animal Heads: Grey wolf & Eagle have no real size options. looks weird on a normal body, unlike big cats.
Minotaur looks fab! Needs more horn options from the standard categories for more varied looks. Could use some ear ring options under nose ring. NO face patterns....needs them
Not really happy with the inability to add standard options (multiple horns and stuff) to the animal heads. Can't make a chicken themed hero due to not being able to add the horn thats like a comb/crest etc... This i find disappointing. Also the height slider....at 8' i'm barely taller then tsoo which really makes my female minotaur look small...can we get this boosted to 9'?
Also wish that we had options for hats/hoods for animal heads. How is Robin Hen supposed to rob from the rich and give to herself in rogue islands without a proper hood and cape to go with her bow hehehe
NEED: Skirt/Kilt options for monster legs. How is the minotaur supposed to wear the Cimeroran armored skirt over his legs?
found some bugs. reported them in other thread. all in all great job!

Its not the face itself... is the color pattern The shades are even there, we just need to be able to control one of the layers better I think? A pattern of two colors on the grey wolf head would be the easiest way to deal with people that want fox-ish heads.

The feather Costume Changes look great because of the physics of the falling feathers. The fur Costume Changes, however, look mushy grey, more like a dirty water splat. The falling fur is just an animation which doesn't look that good. I realize the physics engine can't do hundreds of falling individual hairs, but maybe clumps of hair, like the ones when getting a hair cut? If it remains just an animation, then it need better animation... have the fur fly up a bit before drifting down.

The fur spin emote will be great for sand themed characters. Reminds me of the dust devils that scirocco uses so if they do want to add a more clumpy fur one that's fine, just don't replace the one thats there. They can call it heavy fur spin / burst or something.

Honestly the "Manes" option shows promise in this area and I'm kind of sad it didn't have more, but I'll keep my spirits up

So keep in mind that as far as animal heads in these categories goes: this is it. Don't expect new bird head patterns or cow patterns or what not on any of these parts. Don't expect hats to later be added to these heads. etc. So if any particular thing is glaringly missing, now is the time to state clearly and firmly that this pack really needs X. And in doing so, try to keep your assertions reasonable. i.e., an entire new suite of house cat body patterns as Avatea already stated is out of the question. But perhaps a single fox two tone pattern for the canine head isn't?
Personally, I'm concerned that they don't have enough time to really polish the beast run which I agree with many posters feels incomplete currently.
Not picking on Premonitions, but there are a lot of statements where folks are talking about this being a nice start, etc etc. Keep in mind that they have never (other than one incident with retroactive weapon customization models being ported--maybe from DB to BS? Think it was the Valk set) gone back to any categories introduced in any booster pack.

Just because they've been doing it a certain way in the past doesn't mean they won't ever change that standard in the future.
There is very little in this game that has stayed the same since it was introduced. Once they get a good base of categories, there won't be much to add as a complete and separate booster, so the next step would be to flesh out what's already there.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
I did some testing with my scrapper and I don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said (Beast legs for kilts, losing weapons/shields in beast run are the only complaints.
I'd love to see the fox pattern for the Wolf head. Doesn't seem like a huge request but something as simple as a pattern will be a dream come true for many.
I will be getting this pack JUST for the Tiger on my scrapper. I've got a pretty Epic costume all done up.

Four things that stood out to me:
1) The jump with beast run seems a little odd. It doesn't really seem like the character touches down and jumps again. More just they're somehow doing a pogo with one leg. A more fluid animation here would be better, for when the character jumps.
2) Having a new pack with bird parts without any new wings is questionable to me. Granted the wings we have are fine for this, but not everyone has those costume parts unlocked/purchased. In the same way you included a new wolf tail with this pack so people didn't have to buy the mutant pack too, this really should include at least one stock set of wings.
3) One costume part I think you guys should've done and really didn't think of is a collar and leash. We've been using the same spiked collar forever, and haven't gotten any new thing to put around our necks. Although not strictly animal themed, I think you can see where the connection is. A new collar, maybe with a dogtag, or with a hanging leash/chain, would fit great in this pack. It probably wouldn't be visible with some of the large heads, but lots of people would get use out of it.
4) The animal heads, in general, especially on female models, just seem small. I made a werewolf girl using the wolf head, and her head just seemed tiny compared to what it's supposed to be. I think they could stand to be scaled up a little.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Subjective:
Forgot one other thing that stands out and should probably be adjusted.
The monstrous legs - Hooves can only use the skin tone for the color of the shin area. It's always been this way and has always been a bit of a disappointment, but now with the animal fur leg options, with the way the new Cat Paws work with color selections and with the inclusion of the Minotaur head and tail, I think it really calls for fixing that and allowing the hooves (if not any and all monstrous feet) to use the skin tone or a color option (like ears options have: skin or color).
As is, the pack is impressive. Just a few touches and it will truly be great.

I have one suggestion with the beast run as well as ninja run. When toggled they act a a travel power. Not quite as fast as super speed, not quite as high as super jump, but a perfect blend to get around town. I see why you cannot use these toggles in conjunction with Combat Jumping, however it is quite annoying to have to toggle out of character when fighting and toggle back into character to travel between battles.
My suggestion is to include a second toggle for each of these new running animations. A "Battle Toggle" Same animations as the travel toggle, but with numbers comparable to sprint instead. This way you could leave it on while in missions and in battle like most do with sprint anyways, but you can still use powers like Combat Jumping without having to use regular old sprint which results in a normal stance.
Then when you are ready to travel again you can switch to the faster travel version of the toggle.
Just an idea. I use Ninja Run a lot and this little thing bothers me quite a bit. If we are going to be getting more of these alternate running animations, it might be a good time to make this option available.
