What's your Incarnate Item?
Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!
hmmmmm.
Very few of my characters have "an object" I'd associate with them. My first 50 (blaster) and her follow-on Peacebringer... probably the buckle of the "jewel" belt. My thugs/poison, a coin. Ice/psy dom? An arrowhead - Wyvern killed her (decidedly normal) fiance' trying to take her down in a surprise raid, so that tends to stick with her.
Other than those... *shrug*
WarMain - Powered Exoskeleton. I suppose if you wanted to get right down to the nitty gritty, it might just even be the rikti derived power source since I've slotted the end redux alpha currently, but in the broader scope of things, I think the Well has just inspired WarMain's alter ego by revealing even deeper technological mysteries.
If asked, I'm sure Arno (War's alter ego) would be quick to quote Han Solo and hookey religions when it comes to where his incarnate abilites stem from
I really need to work it out for his ouroboros entry --->shameless self promotion<--- http://ouroportal.com/wiki/WarMain_(Pinnacle) --->shamless self promotion<---
War's backstory is simple enough; driven by revenge, Arno restarts an old project, improves on an exoskeleton and hits the streets of Paragon in order to perfect his design, along the way War learns there is more to life than revenge so he decides its better to become a hero. In his quest as a hero, WarMain is constantly improving the condition and technology of his armor. At times this has led him to do dubious things (alignment system) but he feels that in order to properly protect Paragon City, even the world at large its a nessecary evil. In the end Arno as WarMain attracts the attention of the Well and through its revelation, Arno has decided he cant ignore what the Well offers. He knows its not just heros or vigilantes the Well favors, but its anybody with the will and power to attract the attention of the Well, good or evil.

For my Main (Yes, the ugly guy in my sig) it´s his cap... re-dyed with a little "help" from Trapdoor.

Spreadsheet.
My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw
As is established in the Incarnate arc, people like you and me that are taking the lower path towards Incarnate-hood end up with an item that's brimming with power. Ms. Liberty has her belt while Black Scorpion has his armor.
So what's your Incarnate item? This is all pure RP and flavor, of course, but I'm curious to see who imagines what. My main, Julian Drake, has his two pistols. Julian Drake is a Thugs/Traps Mastermind who is less a villain than he is a spoiled brat on a joy ride. With millions of dollars at his disposal and no greater imperative than "A good time", he doesn't stop for reflection or contemplation. As such, his decisions are geared towards what's "cool" at the time. Nothing's cooler than Guns that may well make their owner immortal. So what started as an impulsive idea has resulted in a destructive chaos rolling through the Rogue Isles. Your turn! ![]() |
Nothing I've seen in the Incarnate system can't be explained by installing more gear in the power armor. Yet. Orbital laser nuke cannon? I've already used orbital WMD from Warburg. Pets? A clockwork control network shouldn't be too onerous. Adding new effects to attacks? You mean, like the procs I already have in there? No need to be an Incarnate to explain away any of those things.
Now, my other main... he was practically an Incarnate before the system was put into place. His 'Incarnate item' would be his special blade, the Godcutter, made from blue stone and forged to destroy cosmic-level entities. (Yeah, he's a Moorcock homage.)
Comrade Smersh, KGB Special Section 8 50 Inv/Fire, Fire/Rad, BS/WP, SD/SS, AR/EM
Other 50s: Plant/Thorn, Bots/Traps, DB/SR, MA/Regen, Rad/Dark - All on Virtue.

for rian, its a rosary from the church at his destroyed home village.
for seraph blue, its her daughter's teddy bear
for violet tendencies, its a single purple flower, similar to the ones that used to grew in a field by the housing project where she grew up before arachnos paved it(and that housing project) over.
each one is linked to the things that made each of them strive to be greater.
lets see, for others... dire worg got a picture of the little girl that died during his first rescue mission.
lady bizzybee got her father's old compass
amara kindwind got a key with the words "come home" on the top but no teeth on it.
space robot 5 got a piece of the meteor that initially changed him.
pax got a miniature globe depicting earth.
charlie in a box got a paper with a lullaby on it from a race that preceded humans. their children loved him as well.
weather bug got a photo of himself, and he loved it
atomic angel got a school textbook "introduction to physics"
kingsnake got a mirror with the glass crashed out.
terra romanov(my widow) got a nesting doll shaped like her family
frost-kat got the collar of her first pet cat
mahvash omidi got a tiny american flag.
persuit got the head of a saxon commander he killed centuries ago, apparently he was to be an incarnate too.
sonya radcliffe got gold coins of inestimable value
glesengel got a music box that played a haunting song of incredible antiquity
jinniya abrar got a flask of water.
oddity mchuggins got a bobblehead of the goofball that made her costume that bizarre, she punched it.
(note, none of those guys are incarnates yet, but i ran with what they would get)
I have various toons...
The Bank Gun
Strange Device
Isis Staff
Leshy Corpse
Aether Mane
Blue Oyster
Mako's Tooth
Guess I need to fire Azuro, Azuria brother, as my head of security.

I know what my FF Defender would say:
"I have an item? Oh right. That thing Trapdoor gave me. I don't have that anymore. I absorbed it, I suppose. You know, it started floating and glowing and suddenly it went *pfoof* and I felt some kind of warmth inside. It's not supposed to do that? I hope it was supposed to do that, because mine did. Kind of handy, I won't lose it now.
I guess it makes sense, since my magic powers are inherited. If the power is in my blood, I suppose the Incarnate Shards would go there, too.
So to answer your question: My incarnate item is... well... me."
Got a Trick Archer who's been carrying around a magic feather since level 1, it would be logical to have that feather be her item. It's always been the origin of her powers, so using it to access the Well seems right.
Aegis Rose, Forcefield/Energy Defender - Freedom
"Bubble up for safety!"
Oougel, my Widow, is supposed to be a human/Soldier of Rularuu hybrid, so her power item takes the form of a collection of self-made trinkets built out of inherently magical materials. She collects bits of crystal, silver wire, etc like a Natterling would, cobbles them together into small trinkets that behave somewhat like miniature versions of the monuments you see in the Shadow Shard as long as she keeps them on her person. This is what she does with Incarnate shards.

Mines a cookie.
I miss being an incarnate...

That blue thing running around saying "Cookies are sometimes food" is Praetorian Cookie Monster!
Shoot on sight, please.
Let's see...
When Agent Andrea Blake was given her artifact by Trapdoor, he didn't give her the original. Oh, he thought he did. So did she. But instead, he gave her its shadow. And when she touched it, it suffused the darkness that has been inside of her ever since she died with the power of the Well. And as far as she's concerned, even if the Well does whisper to her, it's just another voice like the ones she hears in her head thanks to her connection to the Netherworld...
Agent Sorina Tavarisch, on the other hand, found herself holding blueprints. But these were more advanced than anything she'd ever seen. For a split second, she understood them fully, could explain how the infinite power of the Well could be distilled into human science, the flow and harnessing of energy to nearly limitless levels... and then the knowledge faded. She still has the blueprints, but must now unlock them, little by little. She has already modified her gauntlets using the theories she has deduced from the blueprints, and the increase in her abilities is noticeable.
Then there's Cluster Flux. Incarnate, Shmincarnate. She just went along to 'help' as she usually did. Then Trapdoor handed her something. And like almost everything else did around her, it broke. Or at least she thought it had. She didn't even really have a chance to study the thing before there was a flash, a puff of smoke, and a crackling staticy sound before it disintegrated. She's not sure if it actually did anything... so she's just waiting to try her powers on something even bigger. Rumor has reached her ears of something called a Goliath War Walker, and she can't wait to see if she can break that, too.

I have no idea what an appropriate incarnate item would be for Wes The Mess. He isn't techy at all nor is he magical. He's just an invulnerable and super strong mutant that has a flair for brightly colored clothing and hair. Even events in his backstory are pretty "totem free."
