Why are my Trays messed up?

It seems to be Co Op Zones that are causing problems. I know zoning from the RWZ and Cimerora has had this effect...

I lost all trays on a Blaster who'd never been in a co-op zone before, was not in a co-op zone when I logged him in and did not need to go to a co-op zone to lose his trays. Co-op zones may be a catalyst, in that they cause this for characters currently logged in sometimes, but the root problem isn't just related to them, I don't think.

Oddly enough, I had an issue earlier this morning. I hit 22 on my Nin/Nin stalker and my Kuji-in Rin (which had been on auto since level 16) had ceased to be on auto-cast and was moved from alt-8 to control-1, replacing my teleporter popmenu. Frustrating.

I had this happen when I logged in last night on a toon I'd not played in 200 days or so. I logged in to the RWZ to find all my trays completely empty except for the 2 presents from the Winter Event.
I decided to try logging in on a few of my other toons to see what happened:
WS (Vigilante) - Union - 19 days offline - Zoned in to Talos = Fine
Stalker (Villain) - Union - 94 days offline - Zoned in to Pocket D = All Trays Cleared except for 2 presents
Brute (Villain) - Union - 17 days offline - Zoned in to Pocket D = Fine
Mastermind (Villain) - Union -112 days offline - Zoned in to Cap au Diable = Fine
Corruptor (Villain) - Union - 221 days offline - Zoned in to Pocket D = All Trays Cleared except for 2 presents
Tanker (Hero) - Union - 54 days offline - Zoned in to Ouroboros = Fine then Zoned to Atlas then to RWZ = Also fine

I had somewhat the same problem last night with one character, except my trays weren't cleared, but the powers were all randomly dropped in as if I had recently respecced. He'd been inactive for 40 days.
At first I thought I'd been hacked, but all my power selections were correct and my enhancements were intact. Weird.

Noticed same thing yesterday. Was playing my lowbe toons for the obvious reason and one of them had the trays cleared except for the two winter event powers.
For the record the toon had not been played for around 30 days and was logged off in the Atlas Park Hospital. They have never been to or in and out of a co op zone.
Yup, I had this on a few toons I played yesterday as well. All visible trays had been reset to tray 1 and the only powers in them were the two winter event temps.
I assumed it was the result of a patch at some point, I haven't played much CoH in the last few weeks and had returned for the DXP Weekend.

I checked about a half dozen characters and only one had empty trays when I logged in. I hadn't logged in for 34 days, but a couple of the others had been inactive for more than 100 days. It seems to be a random bug.

I got Towed. Logged in a level 50 character on Wednesday and everything was fine. Did a mission or two and logged off. Logged in on Thursday (not realizing 2xp had already started!) and his trays were all set to #1 and all completely empty. I believe that was build 2, which I have been using for over a week of steady play.
No rhyme or reason to it that I can see. Hope it doesn't happen again. I normally use 6 power trays on that character, and I hoard temp powers. Bit of a nuisance to reset them all.

Just happened to my son on his PB, zoning to Pocket D. Wiped out everything (including macros) but winter gifts. He's...not happy about it.

Interesting. I just logged in Inna, my 50 Energy/Energy Blaster, who hadn't been in-game for 108 days, and her trays are all fine. She'd spent her time at Steel Canyon's Icon for this entire duration. I'm really not sure what causes this, then.

What I want to know is whether or not power tray layout data is stored server-side or client-side (forgive me if this is a known thing).

Happened to me yesterday on two different toons. Pretty annoying bug during the 2XP weekend.

Yesterday... on Two diff toons. One an recently played lvl 50 in a normal zone who still had fitness in her build. I logged in to respec it out.
The second a lvl 22 in AE building in Cap. Also still with fitness in the old way. As I was planning on respeccing it out anyway it was no real big deal. After a respec we still have to rebuild trays anyway.
But I hope its linked to the fitness not inherent vs. Winter event (because of the powers left in the cleared tray) vs. some old layout (? The trays left where all tray one but placed in a way my main uses them)
I am afraid it will happen on more of my still incl fitness toons though

I ran into something very similar Sam. I have been playing mostly 50 levels since issue 19 but wanted to use the weekend to level some of my lower characters. I pulled out my 33 level SoA Huntswoman and headed from Cap Au Diable to PI to join friends on missions (She's a Rogue). When I logged on everything was fine and I headed into the RWZ to make the move to the Blue side....
As soon as I stepped through the portal and arrived in Peregrine every tray I had was completely empty! I tried going back and forth a few time between PI and the RWZ and even the RWZ and Cap but nothing ever came back. I finally had to sit down and physically reload all my Icon trays before I could join the team and start playing. After that it was fine but it was definately strange. She'd been inactive for around 60 + days (not 100 but a good amount). I figure it was just a rare bug and since I didn't have any more problems just shrugged it off and moved on.

I haven't run into this yet but I have some VERY old characters (some haven't respeced since like Power Diversification and still have damage 5 slotted). I will have to check one of them. They are a depressing bunch. Level 50 with only IOs (and the wrong ones at that LOL) and almost no INF because back then 100,000 inf was like the moon and people had trouble affording IOs.

Well, this will teach me to check the boards before running to the GM's with tales of panic. I've been working with GM Grackle to find out what's up--I found one alt, a lvl 32 MM, at the end of January whose trays had been wiped. Now at the end of February I just found a lowly lvl 6 Scrapper, with the same problem.
At least now I know it's not just me.
I had all trays wiped clean on the level 50 character that was inactive only 2 days.
It has inherent fitness btw.
Jut recenly I logged in on a charcter, went into the RWZ and everything from my tray disappeared.
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
