Why are my Trays messed up?

I've been logging in characters what have been inactive for some time, and I'm starting to see that anyone over, say, 100 days inactive has lost everything that was in his or her trays. All they have is the Winter Event powers (the presents) in slot 1 and slot 2 of tray 1, and that's it. All other slots in all other trays are empty.

This is at best a minor inconvenience, since I can just replace the powers back down to their slots, but it's annoying in that if I log a character in for just a few minutes, that character is almost unplayable without major maintenance.

If that is something that's "working as intended" maybe that's a way to compress the amount of disk space it takes to store long time inactive characters. They probably figure if you haven't logged into them in over 100 days the chances are relatively small that you'll ever log into them again. *shrugs*

Change all of your passwords, check all of your alts, make sure everything is secure.

A RL friend of mine who is known for religiously following the rules, being polite, and going out of his way to be friendly with people in game was hacked recently.

This was totally random as he doesn't surf porn sites<no keyloggers or viruses detected> doesn't deal with RMT's or pl'ers and remains a bit isolated due to his lack of socializing.

I fear this will be on the rise.

Being safe like that is good advice. But I don't think what Samuel_Tow is talking about could be a case of account hacking. Assuming someone got on his account and decided to (only) /cleartray one of his characters as some kind of joke it still would have shown something more recent than 100+ days inactive. *shrugs*

Exactly. My characters are all listed as not having logged in for a long time, and all of them are precisely where I left them, as I have pretty good memory of what I did with them last. It's just that their trays are empty, and I want to blame the winter event, or at least something that happened prior to it.

Well like I implied it's either a new "feature" applied to long time inactive characters as a means to conserve disk space or it's a fluke of some kind where they lost some of your character's data (probably as a direct result of being long time inactive). It's crummy either way of course.

Ahh, not just me then. And no, it's not limited to 100+ days offline or anything.

My WS was sat in the Rikti Warzone, hadnt logged in since before teh Xmas event.
Zoned OUT of the RWZ to Cap, all my trays emptied in an instant. Left only to the two Xmas Temps, no warning no nothing. And then got the Father Time popup. Which hadn't occured while I was in the RWZ.

This was on a Triform Warshade, so needless to say I was a little bit busier cursing blue thunder than anything else...

Well, I know for a fact that anything from 30 days or less still has all of its trays, but anything older than 100 days has lost its trays. I can't give you a better timeline since I don't actually have any characters that haven't been logged in-between those times.

And that's irrespective of server, too.

*edit*
I can get that down to between 65 and 30 days offline. I'm going to say it's the Winter Event that did it.

Is this all recent? Was any of this happening before yesterday's patch?

I think since Sam "discovered" this bug we should name it after him.

If I log in and my trays are cleared I'm going to say "damn I got Towed"

Well I haven't seen this on any of my characters yet, but this could very well be a new bug introduced by the new patch. I'd report it at the very least.

Actually, it may be. I did log in the Steel Rook, whom I haven't played since 2007, probably, and who had been offline for at least 200 days, and did so only a few days ago. His trays were fine. I'll go report it.

I've also been moving things in Samuel's room around. You know, like putting the stabler on the other side of the desk, switching the contents of dresser drawers, mismatching socks, etc. Next week, going to start changing the homepage on his web browser and drinking his all his milk then putting the empty jug back in the fridge.

I wonder if it has anything to do with some character not being awarded this years temp powers. I know some of mine had that issue. And the patch was meant to fix this, with some unexpected results.

I took a screenshot of his desktop, then put all of his desktop icons in a folder, and made the screenshot of his desktop his new background. }:>

I've had this happen with one character. Don't recall his inactivity time, though.

... though i have one (a redside Fredooomer, so... yeah, rarely played) at 247 days this didn't happen to. Even when zoning.

I'm just being cautious, well, ok paranoid.

When my friend got his account unlocked he check things...his powertrays were "messed up" so.. that's what set me off. Maybe someone is just testing to see if they can get away with it, hence the messed up power trays. Dunno.

yeah I'm paranoid.

Sorry if I worry too much.

I had this happen to me too but the character had only been offline for 8 days.

Zoned into a mission and all my powers were gone apart from the Seasonal temps.

This is starting to sound suspiciously like the "detoggling" bug, which actually put you out of synch with the server, causing it to load a "fresh" copy of your character upon zoning. This time it seems like whatever file is storing our tray settings is getting lost.

I know this isn't someone messing with my trays, because it doesn't look like human tampering. It looks like my trays reset, because they look the same way as they do when I make a brand new character: All three default trays point to the first row of powers, whereas I had them point to 1, 2 and 3, bottom-to-top, and the one extra power tray I had opened has not moved, but has reset to pointing to row 1, as well. All of my powers from all of my trays are also gone, save for the two Holiday ones.

And the characters in question have not moved, or indeed been logged in since the Winter Event started, as they all got the Father Time pop-up, and some got even older pop-ups, like Agent Keith Nancy and Roy Cooling.

I don't have the same bug but I have something that is somewhat similar.

On only some of my characters I have an extra power tray (a horizontal one) that is a duplicate of tray # 1 and that extra tray is usually in the top left/top middle area....really annoying.

It used to be on almost all of my toons but then I guess the server 'saved' me actually having that tray closed....*shrugs*

Can't say I experience this. My last logon for many of my chars was 200+ days ago, and their layout is the same.

Ok, that's sad that I remember the layout from 200 days ago.

One of my friend and I got the same bug on old characters since the last patch. I wouldn't sweat it.

Yup, happened again. My PB zoned once, her three trays all reset to 1 and only had the Xmas temp powers in.

Great. If this happens with my 50s Im going to be SO damn annoyed When it takes a good while to arrange all those powers into a workable order, for the game to mimic the forum login is really, really frustrating. Seriously, what the hell?

You need to do what they did to Major Winchester on MASH - they switched his clothes so he thought he was gaining weight.
As I recall, the bit ended with the line, "Next week he starts getting taller."

Hmm... Be a shame if it fixed it by wiping all the trays of all my characters, all of whom had never switched builds at all.

Really, this isn't something to yell about (not for me, anyway) but it insures that every time I swap characters from now until probably next year, the first thing I'm going to have to do is sit down and repair all of my trays. Sure hope I can remember how I had those set up.
