Just heard on the radio, still waiting for confirmation from another source

Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman

If this is the case, then I'm curious as to whether Batman's "rising" pertains to coming back after Bane breaks his back or after he becomes addicted to venom.

And since Catwoman's involved, maybe they're talking about another kind of rising.

Nice news!, surprised Nolan has gone with the Bane character for his realism-themed trilogy! , Tom Hardy is great news, Hathaway would make a cute Catwoman, especially if they make her more the kleptomaniac cat-burglar of the rich & famous / antiquities.

Interesting news! ... which radio station?, (maybe they have some kinda web transcript?).

Bane would be pretty sweet. Finally give him a chance to be featured in film as an actual intelligent character that managed to break the Batman.

So long as they do an Arkham Asylum/City styled Catwoman (her artwork was in Arkham Asylum under character biogs, and she is in City, with a good looking design)

Ditto for Bane, really. His design there was great.

Agreed. Considering he doesn't like using CGI either. I am not expecting the Bane from comics, so my interests has been peaked.

Notice Nolan says:

Quote:
"I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies."

When I first read that, I thought 'Tom Hardy? That scrawny little bloke from Star Trek: Nemesis? As Bane? Naaaaah!' Then I saw this. Incidentally, this pre-empts the announcement by about a month.

As for Hathaway as Catwoman ...Meeeow!

Anne Hathaway was to play the female fatale in Raimi's Spiderman 4, the Vultress.

Interesting she is playing Selina Kyle, she is a good actress and has done a lot of good indy work to shed her teen appeal like Ledger did.

My issue is Tom Hardy playing Bane. The big hulking monster that is Bane. Tom Hardy is not Hispanic and does not have the size. I thought Hardy would be playing Black Mask or even the lesser Hugo Strange. Well maybe Nolan will be using some special effects to make Tom Hardy bigger like they did for Hyde in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or something like that.

Note: I defended Ledger on the boards before Dark Knight came out saying he would be a great Joker. I doubt people remember. Those that do know I was one of the biggest voices for him. Which in many threads I was the only one. I trust Nolan on this even if I disagree with the casting.

Why did I make a note of this? Even with Hardy in a role I do not understand and I disagree with. I am trusting Nolan on this. He has done a great job for both Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Memento is one of my favorite mind trip films of all time. He deserves me giving him the benefit of the doubt.

It was the Ron and Fez show, on XM radio.

Interesting...
About Cat Woman... It just needs to be said...

Pretty amazing heels to fill... Julie Newmar and Michelle Pfeiffer were so delightfully excellent (in my not so humble opinion). (kudos to Eartha Kitt's purring)

As we've seen with previous characters, new takes and all bounds are possible... We'll just have to see how this one goes!

I'm honestly not that familiar with Miss Hathaway... I can't say that I see it offhand, but that is what acting is all about, so I'm certainly not one of those "no way!" types.

Although she's mostly known for lighter-fare type movies, she has had some pretty beefy serious type roles and gotten quite a bit of critical praise (yeah, she can act). I think it was very wise casting and I think she'll do great. Given that it's traditionally been a campy role it's going to be interesting to see what direction Nolan wants to take the part.

I suspect the movie will be about Batman still being hunted by the law, and the mob also wants him gone, so Bane is called in by the mob.

Bane beats the tar out of Batman in their first fight, possibly injuring Batman's back. Batman recovers, gets his nerve back, develops some plans and takes Bane down and redeems himself in the eyes of the law as Bane was proving to be a real menace instead of Batman.

However given the time constraints of a movie, I suspect that will not quite see Bane doing the back breaker to Batman as spinal trauma isn't usually recovered from quite that fast and I doubt Batman's body armor will help much. More likely it will be like it was when Bane first appeared in Batman TAS: he holds Batman over his head like in the comics, stating that he will break Batman but Batman cuts the tubes that send venom into Bane. Bane by this point has sufficiently pulverized Batman anyway and as Bane goes into shock from venom loss, Batman escapes back to the batcave to hide and heal.

In Nolan, We Trust.

Hathaway is a good, rising actress. Tom Hardy is an emerging star.

Couple that with Bale, Freeman, and Caine, and a solid acted movie this will be.

Odd that although everyone's reporting this as "Anne Hathaway to play Catwoman", the actual studio press release refers only to "Selina Kyle". Bane is mentioned by name, though not secret identity (who cares who a c-list ersatz villain really is under that discount luchador mask?), and Christian Bale is billed as playing "Bruce Wayne/Batman". Maybe this is merely reading too closely into some flack's copy, but perhaps it hints at how Nolan views the characters.

Hmmm...will be interresting.

Could do some time elapsing, as they did in Batman Begins, if they do go the back breaking route. Just going to have to wait and see how Nolan and company do it.

Well, is there going to be a fourth? Could just be setting the stage with the character.

Could be good. I would have seen the movie anyway, but Hatheway in a catsuit is always a plus.

Curious as hell to see how they do Bane though, mainly if they keep his ethnicity, but folks seem confident that Hardy could pull off an accent if it comes to it. (But then again, why not just hire a Latino actor?) And he's shorter than Bale, but Hardy got pretty muscular for the Bronson movie too. And I just hope they keep some aspect of Bane's luchadore mask, hopefully having him actually wear it and not just have it sitting in the background in a trophy case or some such.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

good luck D.B.B.

I'm pretty sure Bane's never been given a real name in the comics.

I'm probably in the minority in thinking that Anne Hathaway isn't a good choice for Catwoman. To me, Selina's supposed to radiate enough sex appeal to actually put a dent in Bruce's dedication to justice, and Michelle Pfeiffer pulled that off well, I think. However, I'm not yet convinced Anne Hathaway can play a devious seductress.

Nolan (and Bale too, IIRC) has said he's only doing three Batman movies.

I would agree with you but there was a scene in Get Smart that makes me think she can do it.

In Havoc, will not exactly playing the role devilishly, she played a seductress pretty well. She was not out and out oozing sexuality, but she did have an air of "I am a woman men find sexy and I will use that to my advantage."
