Oh come on. Anyone can mix up their booby trap manual with the cookbook. No-one really died... CPR was administered, the longest anyone was "technically dead" was 3:51.

Honestly, I don't know how these rumors get started. It's not like people end up hospitalized and missing limbs every time I decide to throw a little soiree.

You can't keep harping on that one time no one was maimed. That was pure luck and you know it. Like Olympic judging, we throw out the high and low scores.

In case you missed it, here's a much better quality version of the pic.

...what the heck's with those guys in the background? Have they got automatic grenade launchers or something?

I think that must be set more in the present day.
Because here's what looks like Cap's first first WWII costume;

Which also looks cool. Gotta say, I'm looking forward to this, despite having never previously been an out and out Cap fan.

Technically they are Hydra troops outfitted with [Marvel NDA] weapons designed by the Red Skull that uses the powersource known as the [Marvel NDA] hence the eerie glow to them.

I don't like the gloves. The pouches are a bit Liefeld. The straps would be okay if the gray bits were made blue to match the top. I have a feeling I wouldn't like the boots if they were pictured, either.

I really like the look of this costume meself, and the way the movie seems to be turning out. I'm pretty sure that by the time The Avengers rolls around Cap will have a fancier outfit for modern day superheroics, but as a period piece that costume is perfect.

It's not like half of Marvel tech uses repulsor power these days.

They're clearly using the Ultimate Captain America design as their jumping-off point. The machine gun guys might also be Nazi wunderwaffe.

Could be. I don't like the gloves or boots in that pic, either. The straps in it are less intrusive to the design, though, even if the armpit pouch looks ridiculous. I love that style of jacket, though - is it a classic flak jacket?

Mind you, I don't think the movie costume is overall movie-ruining terrible (like, say, the Spider-man Green Goblin costume was). As movie superhero costumes go, it's not bad.

Liefeld nothing. Have you ever seen modern military webbing?

Was gonna say something along those lines. Liefeld does go overboard with pouches, but he comes in second to the actual military

Indeed. And the costume isn't as overpouched as the military pic, but rather closer to the Liefeld "aesthetic".

Tip: In the original post, see those Hydra soldiers in the background? - see that blue glow coming from their weapons apparatus/cossie? ..... OoOh!, I wonder what power-source could be powering said weapons!

(Get that and you'll get 'a' link between Captain America, Thor and the Avengers).

I'm guessing vibranium. I noticed near the end of Iron Man II, when Stark is being debriefed by Fury a map which I assume is all current SHIELD operations. One is in Africa. Another is off of Greenland.

I figured that map simply was showing the location of potential Avengers, Black Panther in Wakanda being one of them.

Yeah, the artist (Bryan Hitch) was just modifying the WWII paratrooper outfit by adding Captain America doodads to it. The boots and gloves are just standard-issue items for GIs. In that respect, I think it's a brilliant design. A couple details are different from real life, such as the fact real paratroopers often had their sidearms located where that "armpit pouch" is in the drawing. But that wasn't a hard-and-fast rule of combat gear, so maybe Cap had something he considered more important in that pouch.

I think it's not nearly as good as the comics version, but likewise I don't think it's a show-stopper. The Goblin was genuinely terrible, though, and I never bought the notion that Peter whipped up that carbon-fiber suit in his bedroom.

Eh. The Liefeld "aesthetic" was silly because he was drawing pouches all over superheroes.

Pouches on a soldier is pretty normal. They look more prominent because they're colored red, but that's more due to them trying to approach the classic Cap color scheme.

Thats pretty much the explanation Marvel will be using yes, at least with Thor. (How they'll explain Dr.Strange though I have absolutely no idea).

Cool!, thanks. Theres a link I'd missed, I'll have to rewatch (handy as I've just picked it up cheapish on Blu-Ray).

Remember this is only his WWII preliminary costume (altered a bit for combat from being the mascot of the military). This is not the final cossie he'll be wearing in the Avengers after they thaw him out of the ice as it'll be too badly shredded after.....

Really? The only pouch on that costume that I didn't wear in my time in the military was the one up by the shoulder that you think is silly. Everything else seems pretty standard to me. So strikes me as more realistic than Liefeldesque.

You can kind of see the USO suit under the torn fatigues in some pics, and it resembles the typical spandex outfit.
