Nice interview, no real new info i can see, but the little stat boxes are cool.

One interesting little bit is how he says that the MA is where their ideas for a nemesis/arch-enemy system ended up - so it sounds like that won't be a system that they'll add to the game anytime soon.

Dominators have always been better than Controllers. Even before their revamp, but now that they've been freed up for dirty hero hands to molest, they're gonna be overused .

I think the high percent of MMs in Praetoria might be boosted by people wanting to play a heroic MM from the start, rather than side switching an evil one at 20.

Oh, I know. My second 50 was a Dom and that's still one of my most played characters. But, nearly everyone seems obsessed with Fire/Kin and Ill/Rad Controllers, so it came as a shock to me.

Do you think they should be higher up on the list, or lower? This question comes from someone who's created and deleted several Doms over the years since the launch of CoV but currently has two in the mid-20s (both blueside!) in no danger of deletion. I like them a lot more now than I did then.

I am not at all surprised at Masterminds being the most created Praetorians for exactly that reason. It's never been a mystery that blueside was more popular (for reasons beyond me) and Masterminds have been the most talked about/requested AT villainside since before the slightest hint of Going Rogue or side switching even being possible. Although I am surprised at Brutes being high up there, considering that Scrappers outdamage them right from the getgo. I guess even "heroes" feel the urge to SMASH like general delinquents .

Personally it doesn't surprise me at all, in fact I'm surprised they came in third and not second. There are a lot of people who played Blueside exclusively for various reasons (no desire to be a villain, a dislike of the redside look/content, or simply that it was easier to find teams blueside). With Going Rogue it makes sense that a lot of these people would make praetorian/heroic versions of the redside ATs to see how they compared. Of the redside ATs the two that differ the most from the blueside ATs are Dominators and Masterminds. On the inverse the two blueside ATs that don't have a solid redside counterpart are Controllers and Blasters which are the 2nd and 3rd most common heroside ATs to switch.

As for Brutes and Scrappers being popular to switch, I would guess it's a case of the grass being greener on the other side. While the ATs are very similar they do feel different to play and both have a number of powersets that aren't available to the other so I would guess it's a case of people taking their preferred play-style to their preferred side.

Brutes are not Tankers. Masterminds are not Tankers. Redside does not have a parallel to the Tanker, and I think the only reason Tanker didn't rate higher on that list is because Tanker is overall a less popular AT.

Really want to get into a dom but just cant think of a concept that would suit my playstyle

I was amazed that Stalkers and Controllers were 3rd for sideswapping to Blue and Redside respectively.

Matt Miller: There’s been a couple of things that we’ve looked at in other games and said that’s good for that type of game, but it doesn’t fit into the City of Heroes universe. I’m wracking my brains over this. The Nemesis System [from Champions Online] was something we looked at, but it was something that would be very limiting in the end. We decided against it. I think that was what pushed us even more into the mission architect system because then it wasn’t pre-canned missions that your nemesis was going to show up in. You could create your own nemesis in the mission architect, and you could craft the story of you fighting your nemesis in the mission architect. Then you could go into that mission and execute that story. That was kind of where our version ended up.
This makes me a sad panda. Not all of us have the time/skill to create full-fledged arcs for our potential nemeses, nor do all of us want to be control of every facet of our nemeses' existence. CoH has always stood apart from others by appealing to both casual and hardcore players, yet the only way to have a true nemesis is to invest time and skills into the game that not everyone has.

Why not ask a friend/someone on the boards to make an arc for you? Tell them the name/powers of your Nemesis and their personality, send them the costume code and then play through the arc they make? Even better, if you do feel like trying the AE, then what about swapping nems with someone else. You make an arc/mission for them, they do one for you.

Fair point, I didn't mean to imply that Tankers don't have a direct counterpart, it's just that I completely forgot about them .

On the subject of tankers I would say that they don't rate higher for two reasons:
1. Tankers are not a hugely popular AT, I think that a lot of people who like that sort of play-style opt to roll Brutes or Scrappers instead.
2. They don't bring many new powerset combinations to Redside. The only sets Tankers have that Brutes don't are Ice Melee/Armor so there is less incentive to a redside focused player to make a Tanker to test a powerset combo.

I'd rather have a well built brute on my team than a well built Tank.

I'd take that other game's Nemesis System over all the thousands and thousands and thousands of AE arcs any day of the week and (say it with me) twice on Sunday. Too bad various other elements of that game were so darned stinky. Maybe if I wore a clothespin on my nose...

Then you've been running with some pretty poor Tankers. I apologise for your experiences.

I'm still amazed everytime people insist on bringing a tanker to a red side SF nowadays. They were never needed before, so why now? (or the guy who refused to start his MoLRSF run I joined without an empath. I was a pain corruptor, but that wasn't good enough apparently ... I laughed and quit the team when he went on about it.)
I blame blueside players coming over and taking their strange ideologies with them.

That seems like a big commitment to what COULD be done in a matter of minutes if the devs already had the "pre-canned missions" laid out. For more than one arc relying on the AE would take tons of time, and with multiple characters it gets worse.

Maybe if someone made some AE template missions where the nemesis, group, and dialogue could be copypasted in it would be a lot easier, but until that it's not something I can commit to.

Really? I'm starting to think I really am lucky. I've run countless SFs/TFs since side switching was made available and have yet to run into anyone waiting for a specific AT or powerset to join in order to start. I did have someone comment on one of my Apexes how the TF couldn't be done without any debuffage, luckily, since I was the one leading it, I told him he was free to leave the team. In the end he didn't and when we succeeded, he admitted that he was wrong in his original doubts.
