Epicness??
Domination has a slick explosion-like animation.
Not much compares to the epicness of a permadom.
Carp melee/carp armor
(too soon?)
Keep in mind that Earth and Elec Dominators are worlds apart from Controllers. They do waaaay better damage early on. Earth and Elec (and Ice) Controllers take a long time to become self sufficient. They are great for teams but soloing one is not something I recommend trying. At least prior to level 41 or so when you get an actual decent attack.

I love Katana/Ninja Blade, the speed of the set is a big plus, but the animations are very cool. I also love my Fire/Storm Controller, she looks awesome in action, and I had wanted fire imps since my first day in the game. Dual Blades is one of my favorites visually, as well, and lately I have been really having fun with an Energy Melee Tanker--something about the glowing fists makes the face punching extra face-punchy.
Epicness?
Easy!
1) Broadsword/Shield Defense scrapper or Broadsword/Will Power scrapper. Do you like the CRUNCH of a sword "arresting" the bad guys? How about the bowling for dollars followed by more crunch of Shield Charge and Headsplitter!
2) Fire/Dark corruptor. Fire and more fire and bad guys who are too slow to get out of the fire and more fire. If you like you can then make a Ninja who uses fire and Ninja magic to make the bad guys all fall down "arrested" with fire!
3) Plant/Kinetics controller. I can't even explain how awesome seeds of confusion are when paired with the beauty of a team speed boosted like pirahnas on crack and damage boosted by fulcrum shift.

Samuel_Tow: Your avatar is... I think I like it
Hmmm, hi there ^^
I played coh last year for a few months and altough the Mastermind AT was really awesome, that was all I could manage to play to a decent level point is, even Masterminds tho MMs gives you the "crush them, my army" feeling, its not enough to satiate my need for a character with flashy skills sooo I came here to ask of you, all knowing old players... What would be the best Powerset if I am looking for that "epic" feeling? as in, looks, not necessarily power and what would be a good AT,power combination to make in a way that would make me "epicness" filled character , without making it overly weak? thanks in advance |
Try either:
1: Fire/Fire Blaster
2: Illusion/empathy Controller
3: Earth/Force Field Controller
You will not only feel epic...but you will look epic and definately change the what is happening on a team
I like my 'epic' in all different flavors.
Control: perma-mind/psi dom. Mwahahhahaa! It feels good to be able to hold even Lord Recluse. Or just about any other enemy group you come across.
Mass AoE: Crab spider, soldier/crab aoe's+pets/leadership. This character has only two single target attacks. the rest? Pure, concentrated flunky destruction. Tough enough to wade through waves of enemies, damaging enough to make then die very quickly.
Range: Archery/Em blaster, 3 damage/range HO's and boost range up at all times/munitions ancillary. When your shortest range attack is sniper length, things have trouble hitting you. When you can destroy entire spans With rain of arrows and/or a LRM attack? all the better. when your snipe can hit from 380 feet? Good times.
Toughness: Inv/SS tank, with crazy defense set bonuses, +fighting/energy mastery pool. 90% smashing resists, capable of reaching the hard cap of defense with buffs and enemies in range, he can go on endlessly against most anything, do fair damage, and barely take a scratch. No debufffs to complain about. Psi can be annoying, but with one purple that misses too.
SMASHtroller: EM/dark brute, with +recovery bonuses and COF/OG at all times. Smacks stuff silly as they tremble and stumble at his presence. can keep up to three bosses stunned while simultaneously killing them. Can come back from the brink of death, and when that fails, from death.
Sapper: Kin/elec defender. Can sap a boss in two hits, or a mob in two hits. Can turn any enemy harmless. (minus hamidon) It's just a matter of time. Usually, not much. Has the side effect of boosting recharge, capping damage, healing, restoring endurance, buffing recharge, debuffing regen, damage, speed, and recharge as well. can one shot mobs with fulcrum shift up, and be ready to roll again with a blue and a target.
Maker of epicness: Ill/emp controller with perma phantom army/AB. Capable of keeping allies alive through just about anything, assisted by undying phantoms, with ridiculous ammounts of damage/defense/recharge/regen/recovery to those you wish when you wish. You will be weak, but surrounded by strength.
There are many more, but those are the standouts for me.
Ice Armor / Super Strength.
With a minimum IO investment, you become impossible to hit, while dishing out sizeable damage to your debuffed enemies.
For extra awesome, add Ice Storm on top of your head.
What shall claim a Sky Kings' Ransom?
PPD & Resistance Epic Archetypes
I'm quite surprised that nobody has mentioned Kinetic Melee yet. Quite flashy, especially if you make good use of the power customization. Perhaps paired with Fire Armor, as someone mentioned.

Storm has an epic feel to it.
My 'bots mastermind can feel awesome too, in a detached, evil, stay at home and have the minions go do things for me kind of way. I have a robot/android type costume, so I figure my actual villain is in his secret little lair, acts mousy and timid in public (when he dares come out) and uses remote control to wreak havoc across the world.
Hmm... Who else do I have that is EPIC......
My Peace Bringer can feel strong, or at least spiffy in a team with all his glittery white AOE powers going off, specialy photon seekers (as gimp as they can be) followed by dawn strike.
Lightning Rod on my stalker feels pretty awesomely powerful. His shields (elec/elec) look good too.
Super Strength has a very HULK SMASH feel to it. It's kind of a late bloomer with footstomp coming so late though. SS/Willpower is a solid combo and fun to play.

Another great Brute build I love is Electric Melee / Electric Armor. It's a little weaker against Smash/Lethal damage than some other sets, but you will very easily cap energy resist. I can take direct hits from Rikti Drop Ships and laugh. Couple that with the awesomeness of Lightning Rod, and with the right build, this character can be a complete and utter engine of destruction. And once your Fury bar gets up there, Lightning Field is pretty good.
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.
I have quit a few characters that I enjoy, the one that feels most epic of the lot to me is my earth/storm. Unfortunately you have to wait until about level 40 to get the full effect. But man earth quakes, thunderstorms, tornados, gases, freezing rain, and lumpy pounding everything in sight really gives that sense of fury unleashed whan you uncork it all at once.
Many know that melee is great, there's nothing like a Stone/Fire tank soft capped on resistance and def, plus doing reasonable damage. But I'm afraid my vote is going to my other number one Toon, and that is Elec x3 brute. Being soft capped to energy/negative, plus 29% to s/l defenses, not to mention capped energy resist and 56% to s/l means I can solo +4/x8 malta, knieves, and any other enemy group with little trouble, plus the added bonus of great AoE damage, turns me into a beast when I play him. Plus Lightning Rod is sick.
Energy blast, for no other reason than NOVA. You may feel unnoticed some of the time, but everyone takes notice when you go nova, and you'd better slot atleast one KB enhance in there so those resistant level 54's get blasted to seven seas just like everyone else.
Also, power push can knock over almost any boss giving you a hard day, and as a bonus, when you're level 50, can actually knock enemies beyond the rendering distance. Second in fun only to maximizing KB in lift.
"Fascinating. I'm not bored at all, I swear." -Kikuchiyo
I find Dual pistols to be very stylish and flashy, too bad I don't like playing anything else but scrappers (and MM if they ever fix pet going into melee by themselves).
Keep in mind that Earth and Elec Dominators are worlds apart from Controllers. They do waaaay better damage early on. Earth and Elec (and Ice) Controllers take a long time to become self sufficient. -Morgan.
In my opinion it would be anything with knock up or knock down because it gives me, i dont know about you, a since of controlling the fight
Professor Smoque - Lvl 50 Fire/Fire Blaster
Little Smoquey - Lvl 50 Fire/Kin Controller
Papa Smoque - Lvl 50 Stone/Fire/Earth Tanker
Dr Smoque - Lvl 46 (Perma Bridge) Emp/Elec/Dark Defender
UnNown - Lvl 50 SS/WP Brute
- Attack nearby enemies? EXPLOSIONS.
- Attack distant enemies? EXPLOSIONS.
- Heal yourself? EXPLOSION.
- Buff your damage? EXPLOSION.
With the Tech Booster, you can even kill yourself with an EXPLOSION, and then resurrect yourself with another EXPLOSION.
tl;dr Fire/Fire/Pyre = EXPLOSIONS
Ummm, other good flashy powers: Energy Blast, Kheldians, Martial Arts, Storm Summoning, Fire Control, etc. There are more, but that's a good spread over a variety of ATs, I think. I've found all of them to be quite visually fun and fun to play.
