According to this Joe Quesada will step down from his EiC duties, but will continue on as Marvel's CCO position and Axel Alonso will carry on as Marvel's new EiC.

Upon hearing the news, Peter Parker got down on one knee in front of Mary Jane Watson...

Would love to see this, but I doubt I'll see it happen any time soon. From what I get the writting staff of the Spider-Man series seem to back Joe up on the Peter and MJ's split.

Well, he was their boss. You gotta toe the company line.

What this means though is the next team that comes in may want to reunite MJ and Pete and the guy in charge is not the same guy who ordered them apart, so AA may be more open to a reunion.

It will be interesting to see. I get the feeling a new EiC is like a new Athletic Director at a college: wants to get his own guys (ideas) into place eventually.

My concern is that Quesada will still be CCO, so he can still be influencing the direction of the books.

Did Mephisto demand this in exchange for Marvel's reputation amongst fanboys?

As CCO he has to focus on other things too, Marvel TV and Movie products, digital entertainmnet (Video Games), on top of the comic portion. I really don't think it would be wise to focus on one part of the company and approach everything else with minimal work. Hopefully other Marvel projects will keep Joe too busy to focus on the comic portion of Marvel.

One can only hope.....Disney should have gotten rid of the Q when they aquired Marvel....

While the Q can provide input as CCO, Axel reports up to the Publisher (Dan Buckley) and somehow Tom B. figures into this as Senior VP of Publishing.

I imagine that if the 3 folks on the publishing side agree on a point or a storyline that is different from the CCOs idea, their version is what will ultimately get published.

Didn't they make Loeb head of Marvel Entertainment's TV division?

I'd like Quesada to go back to being an artist. He was good at that.

Wouldn't mind that, just as long as the pencil he's holding is used to draw instead of writing.

He was?

Seriously though, I do hope that this LONG OVERDUE change to the EIC position leads to many good things such as:

1. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
2. Less mega crossover events
3. Restoration of certain cosmic titles (Nova, Guardians)
4. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
5. Enough of the "death events" such as what is coming up in the FF
6. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
7. The reestablishment of Galactus as a major universal force instead of jobbing him
8. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
9. The creation of a new Captain Marvel character that isn't going to be shafted by editorial mandate and forced to have his series relaunched due to some stupid U-decide contest.
10. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
11. If #9 cannot be done, then restore Captain Mar-Vell to life
12. Did I mention: The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT?
13. Also the Highlander rule of "there can be only ONE" needs to be applied to the Hulk. Let us hope that Red Hulk isn't around for much longer.

And there was much rejoicing.

I believe they already did this in an issue of Fantastic Four a while back.

I find it most ungeekly that no one here has yet said, "Allons-y, Alonso!"

I've heard of CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and CPO Sharkeys, but what is a CCO?

CCO=Cheif Creative Officer. Basically he is in charge of overseeing and maintaining the Marvel Brand in other media. Marvel created this position in response to DC creating it and giving it to Geoff Johns.

The real question is, what will the panel at Comic Con now be called? Cup O' Joe is out. How about "Spinning the Axel"?
