So, with the winter event almost nigh, it's time for me to sit by the fire, open the Baileys and paraphrase a quote by a wise old woman.

Seriously, in Paragon at least, there's no:

Christmas Trees
Christmas Lights
Christmas Outdoor Decorations.

So there's not going to be frozen lakes or snow on the ground. Fine. Okay. But none of the things you always see in cities this time of year?

The city, as always, just looks sterile. Would it kill the studio to take some of the Ski Chalet art assets and... adorn the city with them? A tree here, some lights here, so on, so forth?

It'd be new, and shiny! And we all know how people love the newshiny.

PS: Here's a screenshot manipulation that a friend, Fanservice, did of Galaxy City. It's not got lights, but it has got snow, and IMO it looks right lush.

I second this. Especially since with the way the drivers in PC drive, it's already like they're sliding around on snow without all-season tires.

It's the influence of Jack - he liked it to be always winter, but never Christams.

The lakes froze over in the first Winter Event, in January 2005. That was fun. I played ice hockey with Hydra pucks in Perez Park, and pairs skating with a Devoured in Eden. It's too bad the devs haven't done that kind of thing since.

I like this idea some lights on the trees (like they do in D.C.) would be capital.


A nice big tree in front of City Hall would be a nice touch.

Could also put one in Cap in the center plaza.

As a festive touch, I normally always deck out my characters with something wintery for the season. This would just cap everything off.

So, a city names itself Unfestivefille and you're upset that it's not festive enough? Your Real Estate agent is incredible.

The Grinch stole Christmas in Paragon, its up to you to recover all of the decorations.

I think it's more likely they'd freeze the lakes again or recolor the grass white to simulate snow, before they'd add a bunch of new geometry all over. It would be AWESOME if they did go nuts and add tons of new stuff, but I doubt they will... since even the lakes freezing again seems to be too much to ask.

It was grand fun to skid across the lake in Atlas Park. This was well before the ice room in Frostfire's hideout or the oil slicks in Port Oakes, so it was brand new to me.

The doctored screenshot of Paragon in white makes me want it so badly.

Just think, we could have the flying heroes trim Atlas' globe in lights. The most daring of villains could pelt the Arbiters with snowballs and dash away. The Rikti could be forced to wear Santa hats.

Add a giant Festivus pole to each zone.

I'm glad people liked the picture! (Even if it was a bit unpolished.)

While having the game mirror it would be a fairly monstrous task to do and I don't think would really be worth the time for a few weeks, I'm a little sad we don't have any kind of change in Paragon at all. Even small things like a few seasonal lines of NPC talk would make the world feel just a little more alive. I realise it's not exactly a critical part of the game, but it does help it feel a bit more fresh.

And what Superhero worth thier salt doesn't have a Christmas Comic/Episode? It's practically the law.



Anyway! I might well give a few pictures a second go over the Holidays (Which start next Friday for me) and add in some lights and other extras this time. Rather than doing it from ones ripped off the website or taken myself, if people want to PM me some I'll see what I can do! I can even add in a bit of text and turn it into a christmas card if people are keen for that. The only guidelines I'd give is to avoid shots with more than about a third of it as ocean, Sky or Warwall as they don't really change much and that I don't mind doing the Rogue Islands or Praetoria as well!
