I've covered this point to death already. But, again, it wasn't challenging. It was just cheap and tedious.
Again if you pay attention to what's going on, you will not have to deal with many Rikti at all. You're free not to believe me, but this mission isn't cheap. It presents you with a challenge, the Rikti portals. There are at least three ways I've found to deal with them on different characters.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Infinite spawn anything is a bad mechanic for this type of mission.
My Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery Brute disagrees with you. I purposely let those Rikti beef up in number JUST so I had fuel for Dark Regeneration, Dark Consumption, Soul Drain and Soul Transfer.

My GOD it was glorious.

I just pulled the EB's. I didn't even have to deal with the rikti and/or portals.

Where are you people finding the infinite spawn missions? I've been looking for one for AGES. Personally, it sounds like a lot of fun. The last one I found comes close, but the spawns stop as soon as the portals die.

I ran this mish several times with an E3 blaster last night, and could not defeat Honoree. First I was on +1/x2, so I dropped it to +0/x1 and still couldn't beat either EB. Then I dropped to -1/x1 and loaded up on Def and Heal insps. I was able to defeat Holtz, but it took all my insps. Exited the mission, restocked on insps and went back. Honoree handed me my ***, even though I was soft-capped on defense *and* had Force of Nature on. I wasn't doing enough damage quickly enough, so I stocked up on purples and reds. I got Honoree down to about 1/2 health before I ran out of purples and was smashed. I tried 16 purples and 4 reds, and I still couldn't damage Honoree quickly enough to win. I would pop 4 purples to soft cap defense and a red. No dice. Even popping Aim and Build Up whenever they were available wasn't enough.

I use common IOs, with all my attacks having 2 or 3 damages in them.

The portals were no problem, just sniped them and took out the Rikti, then pulled the EBs one at a time.

I guess I'll just have to keep slogging away at it until the random number generator gives me a lucky enough run to win.

Last night I did this on live, with the same character I'd used on test. It wasn't nearly as bad this time, but I did manage to get within Monkey Spitting range so I needed help to finish it off. We were considering bringing in a tank to help but managed without.

But THIS, this is what greeted me on Beta. (link because it's very big)

Now, I don't know whether other people are seeing this here on live, the portals weren't spitting out THAT many on me this time.

But seriously, it's just tactics. If you don't have some form of snipe - a vet reward or even a temp power - get someone to help you, or head straight for those portals.

After all, do you think the Well would reward us if it were easy? This IS supposed to be a challenge, a rite of passage for our characters. Each of them will have different areas of expertise and weaknesses. But they all have the advantage of being played by US, who can use our prior experiences and form plans. It's not THAT hard.

The mission doesn't have to be soloed; if you're having that much trouble, grab a friend. Lady Grey, when she gives you the mission, issues a big bold warning that you should bring friends.

If you're on Virtue, I'll be happy to walk you through it tonight. Just send me a tell in game. This goes for anyone reading.

I looked at that and almost had a heart attack from sheer joy. If that doesn't look like fun, I don't know what does.

If only my tank had knockback.

Hhehehe Yeah, actually even for that character in there, Winter's True Spirit is an ice/kin/ice troller and has a LOT of hold power. Nowhere near enough to actually deal with THAT many enemies at once, but heheh. After I'd pulled both Honoree and his captor away from all the monkeys and rikti, I just *let the portals keep churning them out*. I was aghast, actually, because that was what greeted me when I came back from hitting the hospital halfway through the mission map... But thankfully I nailed the portals in the other room before they became a problem at all, so it was just the last three ... churning and churning.

OH if only I'd chosen Repel for a respec power. lol

Ah, see, there in lies your problem. You may be able to hold down a bunch of rikti, but held and not attacking ones aren't counting against your aggro cap. I'm certain of that.

With a melee type character with defense powers, all you have to be able to withstand is 17 enemies worth of damage. Hundreds or thousands in the room won't matter beyond 17 at a time. It gets ugly when you're down to 17 bosses, of course.

Oh, you managed to screenshot what I was faced with after I finally beat down Holtz...

And yeah, sure, if I'd know to come on the forums and look up the entire arc, ruining the surprises and plot and bascially reading the guidebook for it, I'm sure I woulda been fine.
But then I might as well just PL to 50 and skip all the content if I'm going to do that, might'nt I?
There was nothing tactical about it. It was 'We're going to break your AoE target cap with so many targets that you will, invariably, die.'
I've said my piece, and will continue to view that kinda thing as bugged to hell.

A little over the top here. One look into that room, even knowing NOTHING ELSE about the arc, and you should have thought "Hey, maybe I should prioritize on those portals."

Untrue. I heard the text for a Rikti ambush, and saw the portals pop up along with some standard fare Rikti. There was no instant spawns from the portals, and then Holtz decided to make introductions with her rail rifle. I assumed, wrongly as it turned out, that the portals would act like normal Comms officers portals. NOT that they would spew a constant tide of Rikti minions.
Or, at the very least, that they would act like Behemoth portals and only summon a certain ammount and when a target was in range. They obviously kept spawning the two times I had to make a run back for cover and re-arming.
Omniescence is not one of my available powers, even at 50.

This probably isn't a good thread to mention that some people have already soloed the AVs in this mission, eh?
Actually thats really a non issue..

Because of the power-set interactions if you can take advantage of his weaknesses he is stupidly easy, basically he is set to have almost no immob or KB resistance.

This is why waterspout made this a joke, he was in a constant state of knockup, no matter how many more hp he had he was completely and utterly ineffective at this point.

Now if you are vulnerable to his weakness, not having mez protection, he shoots right through acro and breakfrees for whatever reason to hold you anyway, he is darn near impossible.

The problem is the mission is poorly balanced, not too hard or too easy.

He is supervulnerable to knockdown, my plant psi made him a butt scooting joke with carrion creepers and waterspout.

Its either stupidly easy or impossibly hard depending on powerset layout..

That is the definition of bad game design.

Incarnate should be hard to become. I actually asked one friend and we duo-ed it on +1/x3 with AV's.

Also... we where both villain... we pulled two shivan's. And we both activated Demonic Aura. And then aggroed both AV's whahahahahahaaha... And won!
Very bad idea...
but its not hard.....
Its hard for some builds only, the whine you would see would eclipse everythign other than ED whine.

By impossibly hard, you mean a little more difficult than usual, yes?

Because so far there has not been a single powerset commented on here (or in the beta version of this thread) that was not able to solo this mission.

Im sure for people who have been playing for the entire life of the game have planned every slot, have spreadsheets pasted to their posterior this is still easy on bad powersets.

For normal people its still hard as proven by go look at any BC in RWZ at the amount of complaints about the mission.

I like how you say people who plan characters are abnormal.

Also, people who have been trained on easy-mode gameplay complaining when confronted with something that isn't? Color me shocked.

My Elec Blaster was able to use breakfrees to great effect. Gotta stop using those made-in-China ones that are full of melamine.

But seriously, I wonder what the difference was. I tend to use only the med & large ones so they last longer; do they also have more magnitude?

Ok I take back what I said about elite bosses. These particular ones are not that bad. What changed my mind? Check out these screenshots:

The approach after eliminating the first set of portals:

Versus Boss 1 (forgot his name already, he pretty much stayed held the whole fight):

Versus Honoree (required lots of kiting, as you can see from the pic):

I used very few inspirations. Mainly, 2 purples, and some blues.

The reason I'm glowing green like that?

This is an Ice/Radiation Controller!

Someone lost this with a Bots/Traps? I find that surprising. Lots of techniques that don't typically work seem to function well on these bosses. No spawn-of-Satan purple triangles, knockback doesnt totally suck, possible to stack a hold without being a Dominator. Im sure having Indomitable Will helped me a lot, but Bots/Traps should have mezz protection too.

Good job devs. I actually like it, and I've always been a vocal critic of these encounters.

Well, that's why I've learned to take out the bosses first.

Well, as the aggro system is explained, higher-rank enemies get priority to attack you when you're at the aggro cap. So if there were 17 bosses in the group, they'd be the ones attacking you to begin with, because they'd edge out the lieutenants and minions. My own experience with wading way over the aggro cap into Rikti on my /Elec brute reinforces this--the bosses stick on me if I herd up three groups, but most of the minions will drift back to their home point. So hey, if you ever get tired of Sappers, just kite around 17 angry bosses and they'll ignore you!

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
