Things that bug me.
I'm afraid that if you're that scared of UHF signals doing something to your brain, then you'll be terrified to know that those radio waves are being used just about everywhere else as well. Simply refusing to use a cell phone won't help you one bit. If you're serious about not being touched by radio waves between 300 MHz and 3 GHz, you'll have to move out into some extremely remote location (or better yet, deep into an underground cave) and encase yourself in a Faraday cage (with very thick walls of metal). You must also bring no device with you that generates an EM field of its own (translation: nothing electronic). So, no electric lights; you'll have to make do with gas lamps. So make sure to bring plenty of kerosene! You'll probably want an ample supply of oxygen as well.

And, in the end, they're effectively a portable Robespierre.
But I've been using it for years while Hovering so either the flavor text is wrong (like that never happens ) or it's a bug they haven't bothered fixing for years.
Maybe they always "intended" for it to work while on the ground but didn't want to deal with having it shut off any time a character so much as "bunny-hop" jumps into the air. |
Moral of the story: Do not rely on it being a "bug they won't bother fixing."
P.S. Having to summon a "floating" Vet Pet on the ground makes no sense regardless. |
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
How many are a concentrated source touching your ear? I don't hold a lamp to my head, nor do I a television. Don't you recall the old cautionary about bringing up children near power lines? The cell phone is putting out just as much energy as that powerline and you're putting it right next to your skull!
And, in the end, they're effectively a portable Robespierre. |
My pet peeve, not that anyone asked, is that the memorized recipes in the recipe windows are opened by default every time I check my recipes. Those trees really should default to closed when opening that window.
And yeah, count me in on the Oz portal while flying annoyance too. |
Also...
- The buff-pet veteran power can only be summoned while on the ground
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
- When base building, the game assumes you've double clicked (probably due to lag) and jumps your character to the ground position, just when you are trying to adjust a vital piece in your elaborate creation, and thus drags the piece away from its position and completely ruins your perfectly set up camera angle
- Rage crashing just as you jump into a vast group of mobs
- Hitting for next to no damage during rage crash, then immediately its back up and you can do damage, you miss.... TWICE!
- Accuracy during the early levels (pre 25ish) - City of Failing Eyesight?
- the word "Miss"

What? A cell phone with a small, light battery is putting out as much energy as a power line hooked up to a major power plant and supplying an entire city? What kind of cell phones are you using?
It doesn't matter how close you put the thing to your ear. You live inside electromagnetic fields every moment of every day, unless you live out in the woods. Everything electronic puts out an EM field, and it doesn't matter if you put it to your ear or look at it from across the room. Your cell phone's radio is powerful enough to reach a comm tower outside of your house, through your walls and through surrounding buildings, and it broadcasts that signal in all directions. It doesn't matter if you're next to it, across the room or in the next building over. You're inside its broadcast radius.
Even if you don't own a cell phone, your neighbour probably does, and it's transmitting its signal straight through your head. Right now, in fact. If you have a wireless router in the room, that's broadcasting straight into your head. That satellite dish your neighbour has? It only picks up a broadcast that's coming down from space anyway, which means a satellite is currently broadcasting straight into your head right now. Do you have a GPS in your car? Same deal. Do you have a wireless mouse or keyboard? They're broadcasting into your head.
And on top of that, everything electronic broadcasts an EM field just by working. And those EM fields tend to not really decay by all that much over space. So it doesn't matter if you hold your lights to your head. They're broadcasting an EM field inside your head either way. It doesn't matter if you watch your TV from the other end of the room. It's broadcasting an EM field inside your head, unless you're watching it through solid lead or a large water tank. In fact, older cathode-ray tube TVs are basically emitters aimed at the screen, and with you on the other side, those are emitters aimed AT YOU. Those speakers you hear sound out of? They broadcast some serious EM fields, too. Hell, you get blasted by electro-magnetic waves FROM SPACE all the time just doing nothing.
I mean, sure, if you want to be afraid of these things, then I really can't argue with that. But to single out cell phones when they're one of the smallest offenders is just... Unreasonable.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

I hate Steel Canyon contacts that send me to Skyway City and Skyway City contacts that send me to Steel Canyon. I also hate that I can't dangle these contacts from rooftops by their ankles while singing, "Got no joy, got no phone, got no missions in this zone! Now it's your turn to fly, oops you fell out of the sky!"
Dev teams doing everything short of stating categorically that an issue will be released on a certain day, then not releasing it on that day?

Well, Hover got "fixed" and Lightning Storm got "fixed" after what, four years and some change? The worst part of it was the indignant finger-pointing that "Everyone KNEW they were bugged" and they were therefore "exploits" that went on in the forums afterward. Wait, what? But "fixed" they got.
Moral of the story: Do not rely on it being a "bug they won't bother fixing." |
If the Devs ever bother to "fix/nerf" Hot Feet to somehow only work when we are on the ground I'll either adapt to it or stop using it. There wouldn't be much I could do if the Devs wanted to ruin my enjoyment of that power. On the other hand the Devs could also just rename the power "Hot Cloud" (like Choking Cloud) to more accurately reflect how the power -actually- works.

Things that bug me: "Souvenirs" were pretty clearly supposed to be actual items that your character picked up during an arc. The name of the souvenir is the name of the item. The description starts with "This item reminds you of a story, a story you like to call.... Title Of The Arc."
Most souvenirs for new storyarcs follow this convention, but the ones introduced for the Hollows/Striga/Croatoa storyarcs are just the title of the arc and a description. What, did I stuff "Flux the Outcast" into my Vault of Heroic Deeds between "An etched Clockwork piece" and "The PsychoChronoMetron"? Does he just sit there all day and tell me about the time we had an adventure together whenever I ask? How am I holding a "Piercing the Veil" next to my "Freakalympics gold medal"? THIS MAKES NO SENSE ARGH.

Badges: They need to be listed in a much more user friendly way. Even alphabetically by type would be an improvement to the mishmash we have now.
Recipes: I've MADE THE LOST CURING WANT! I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER! Get it off of my list or at least get it out of the way.
Temp Powers: Why so many? They just take up valuable recipe space.

Something's that's bugged me for a long while has been, of all things, box cover art.
On the City of Heroes box, you've got Statesman, Sister Psyche, along with a dozen or so other heroes charging.
And you know what? If you think these guys look cool, you can make them! or at least something reasonably close to them.
On the City of Villains box, you have Lord Recluse producing his minions from his armpits.
And you know what? If you think these guys are cool, too bad.
Can I duplicate Ghost Widow's costume? No. Can I get something close? Nah-ah.
What about Captain Mako? Sorry. Something close? Out of the question.
Scirocco? Nada on both accounts.
Black Scorpion? Nope.jpeg
What the hell? And it's six issues before I'm able to even make myself look like any of the mooks behind the four Generals. Oh, and Lord Recluse is right out.
Hell, even with GR's cover we have ONE character we can make something close to (Dedemona, though there's only three if I recall).

According to Wikipedia: "CRTs can emit a small amount of X-ray radiation as a result of the electron beam's bombardment of the shadow mask/aperture grille and phosphors. The amount of radiation escaping the front of the monitor is widely considered unharmful. The Food and Drug Administration regulations in 21 C.F.R. 1020.10 are used to strictly limit, for instance, television receivers to 0.5 milliroentgens per hour (mR/h) (0.13 µC/(kg·h) or 36 pA/kg) at a distance of 5 cm (2 in) from any external surface; since 2007, most CRTs have emissions that fall well below this limit."
And now you know!!
Statesman's lazy eye on the loading screen has been bothering me for years. Sometimes I put the little spinning circle over it and laugh at him.
There are two things that bug the bejeebers out of me. When I enter a door and proceed to bubble/buff/interact with a teammate or pet and the damn reticle of whatever is behind me is so big I click on that first instead.
Second thing I hate is how target next cycles. If I target something in a group and it ends up being the farthest thing from me in that group, the next target is something 0.75 miles away in the next map. Now, reassure me dear devs, is that how the word 'next' operates when the mechanics of the game apply taunt, or any other Targetted AoE function in applying the 15/16 max spawn count for GDF/ED nerf AoEs that gimped controllers and tamed tankers?

Well, look at that Sam, you're wrong again. Excuse me for not wanting to bake my brain.
By the way, I don't own a car and I have a hatred for GPS anyway since it's nobody's business where I drive. Oh yeah, and no wireless mouse or keyboard either.
We can't organize our character lists, you know, by most recently played, or level, etc.
