The mother from Malcom in the Middle has to be up there.

To be fair to those parents, they believed they were protecting their children by burning a child molester (not excusing it...they shouldn't have done it), but it's really hard to envision the consequences of that guy returning as an evil, scarred dream ghost who murders them all years later. That's not exactly rational thinking.

I'm going to throw my vote in for Jonas Venture, especially after the after-credit revelation from this past episode. There's a reason Rusty is all screwed up, which in turn is why Hank and Dean are all screwed up.

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

No, her mother (and father) have to be up there.

Those two explain a lot about Lois (especially the mother).

Lois may have had a somewhat hands off approach to her sons but she did love them and care for them. They also turned out OK as well.

Hands off??

She controls every aspect of their lives, or attempts to (quite rightly too given how they behave when she isn't around to thwart them).

Absolutely. Amazingly so when you consider how insane Ida is.

Haven't watched enough Married With Children to dispute Bundy, but Homer is a good father. The Simpsons being "TV's dysfunctional family" is untrue. The family is very functional. Sure, Homer is a reckless idiot, but he loves his wife and he loves his kids. You want a family that shouldn't be together at all, look at the Griffins.

Which brings me to Peter Griffin. There is no worse father on TV.

I forget the names, but the mother AND the grandmother from VC Andrews' "Flowers in the Attic."

Al Bundy was often the same. He really did love his wife and kids, and protected them when he needed to.

First season had AL and Peg being dysfunctional, but loving. After that, he cringed everytime she made the mention of whoopie and acted as if prison would be better than spending time with his wife.

(*cues the sad music to end* Just kidding, actually... that's not true at all, haha. Just seemed like the right serious gag... Sorry, dad!!)

Do I smell a 'Worst Parent' draft starting?

I'd put Rusty Venture(*), Darth Vader, and Peter Griffith as top seeds.

(* -- Jonah was nowhere near as bad a parent as Rusty. How many times has Rusty gotten his kids killed? As far as we know, Rusty survived his childhood.)

Is that the one where they are trying to kill off the kids because the mother married an unacceptable husband and returns home when he dies?

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

I've never run a draft before! Time to get my hands dirty.

Was gonna say Gendo Ikari, but Smersh beat me to that one.

Mom from Futurama.

Jecht from Final Fantasy X.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Really? And here I thought this guy was the 'I win' button:

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

Al also did do what he could for his kids when he could, he only took the don't care attitude when he couldn't do anything to help. Peg did the same, but she was hella sketchy and was pretty much the screwy one in that relationship, most of the bad traits the kids picked up came from her as she was doing them long before they were. Al tried to at least not do bad things because he knew it would fail and get back at him as he was cursed to always fail at his schemes, he didn't usually do them until some goading from his wife or friends.

I do agree that Peter Griffin beats the Bundy's (an pretty much most the parents listed on this thread) in Parenthood fail hands down, considering how he's pretty much self involved, how badly he treats Meg, how often he forgets his kids names or even their existence.

Peter Griffin is inconsistent, though. He's actually a good father to Chris. He's horrible to Meg, but just indifferent to Stewie. There's no doubt he's a bad father and a terrible role model, but I don't think he qualifies as the worst because he makes an effort toward at least one of his children.

Rusty Venture makes an effort with one of his kids, but because he's Rusty the end result is that he screws the kid up worse than if he had done nothing. And Darth Vader...well, 'Join me in the Dark Side' is not appropriate father-son bonding.
