The reason for the signed NDA is perfectly obvious. They're finally ready to convert the game to the "Golden Age" engine.

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

During the PAX Panel, Positron mentioned that a signed NDA will be required because they're 'introducing new systems that would be brand new to the game'. I'm paraphrasing here so that is not the EXACT quote, but that's pretty much the gist of it (I think the panel is up on Youtube somewhere if you wanna go back and listen). Of course, he did not go in to specifics but the way he was talking about it, it seemed like it was much more than just a couple of minor changes here and there. Posi's not really the typical marketing guy so for him to put it this way made it seem like it truly was a big deal.

20 is a pretty big milestone so I'm sure the team is really gonna try to make this one huge.

Some game engines only provide real-time 3D rendering capabilities instead of the wide range of functionality required by games. These engines rely upon the game developer to implement the rest of this functionality or assemble it from other game middleware components. These types of engines are generally referred to as a "graphics engine," "rendering engine," or "3D engine" instead of the more encompassing term "game engine." However, this terminology is inconsistently used as many full-featured 3D game engines are referred to simply as "3D engines." A few examples of graphics engines are: RealmForge, Truevision3D, OGRE, Crystal Space, Genesis3D, Irrlicht and JMonkey Engine. Modern game or graphics engines generally provide a scene graph, which is an object-oriented representation of the 3D game world which often simplifies game design and can be used for more efficient rendering of vast virtual worlds.
Middleware being the rest of the engine. Not just contact coding but also designations for what objects interact with what abilities or even other objects, such as a "Ghost Box" which clips with the environment and objects but not player, requiring the player to push another physics object against the "Ghost Box" to move it.

I stand by my previous statements.

At the same panel in which the I20 pre-Beta was announced there was a huge powerpoint graphic that explained it was to test the End Game content.

Divorced from that information, the idea of a signed NDA led people to dream up all sorts of wild ideas about "What could possibly be the reason for A SIGNED NDA??!!!!!!"

The answer: A head start on testing End Game content.

Further speculation is unwarranted unless you want to speculate on what 'End Game content' is.

I say let the people dream. They just need to remember, they may be dreaming bigger than what is actually there.

/that...

I dont believe i20 is CoX2.0...there would have to be a dollar figure tied to the release if it was really that "BIG". Plus its a little close to the release of another expansion that we just paid for...however seeing as how people will pay for just about anything maybe the marketing logic behind a move like that(if it was to happen) isnt than doubt after-all.

We should discourage that because I don't have enough time in a day to drink all the tears of those crying that I20 wasn't CoH2: The Pink Unicorn City of Everything I Always Wanted.

An NDA could also mean that they're preparing some horrifying kind of punishment for us to go along with the Incarnate system

It's all about managing player expectations - there have been loads of times in the past when something the devs have said or done has triggered wildly implausible ideas about what might be coming up next

I think WW said there was a map graphical upgrade coming.
Maybe real shadows for instanced missions?
I think I20 is 2-3 Incarnate slots in form of attacks.

Yup.

Issue 20;

NPCs:

-From now on, all NPCs hair will be animated. To countermand the increased gfx requirements, however, only NPCs will be getting them. Also, we are removing the animation from capes to bring memory use back within acceptable levels.

Umm... Wow. I was speculating on the story for I19 and I20 and how the I think the Devs will use the invasion as an excuse to give the buildings in the game a face lift and remove the war walls.

How did this devolve into a discussion on the Signed NDA?

Honestly, I think the Signed NDA, had to do with the fact that they had people in a room, and said "hey, while there here, we can just have them sign something."

No one signed an NDA at the panel.

Their decision to start testing I20 before I19 speaks to it being an unusual issue in some way.

Because it's something unusual for this game, so it's a big clue that something unusual might be happening in I20.

Heh. If you think that's a long way off-topic for a thread to swing, you haven't been here very long. Give it a couple more pages. It'll be amputee porn and cake decorating.
