Wonder Woman Returning to Television
Torn on this one. I mean really.
I like David E. Kelley. He's provided me with hours and hours of great TV. But come on, is he really the best bet for Wonder Woman?
I don't know how this can be done. You know they won't use her costume, so it may end up like Smallville where she'll be in regular clothes... And I am not sure if there is anyone who can play Diana in live action...

I can see a Xena with superpowers coming on.
My vote is for Jessica Alba. I know she's already played a couple of super chicks before but she looks soooooo good in tights.
Erica Cerra.

I see myself as witty, urbane, highly talented, hugely successful with a keen sense of style. Plus of course my own special brand of modesty.

They have a hard enough time making Wonder Woman appealing to an audience and maintaining a stable interpretation in the comics; I'm worried that this project is very likely to bomb and hurt any chance of a Wonder Woman film.

It depends which WW era and which costume they go for. The new "Joan Jett" look is certainly more TV friendly, but a LOT of Xena-style humour would be good. Remembering Kelley's previous works, much campery would ensue which.. might not make it the longest running series.
If we were looking for the Diana Prince:Secret Agent type,I will (reluctantly and after an extended catfight) hand my gogo boots and corsetry to Kate Beckinsale. Who would be fabulous. The cow.
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

I have thought for years that the best actress to play her would be Monica Bellucci, I have not seen another actress that can pull of all the aspects of what WW should be. Sadly, after watching Shoot 'em Up I can't really say that. It pains me to say but I think she has gotten too old. It is really sad because she would have been perfect.
Hmmmm
Now, part of me is all for this, I want to see more of all the DC universe on the big and small screen, but putting WW specifically on TV instead of a movie might work against it.
There's still a lot of memory for people of the old 70's camp series to get past, will need to be a VERY different show to work
Plus, will this preclude her being in any future Justice League movie?
Also, Charisma Carpenter for the role!.....or Eliza Dushku!!

We want people to actually watch the show. None of the three have proven they can act. Dushku has been given the lead role in a TV show more than once and none hung around for that long. Hell, backed by even Whedon, Dollhouse lasted two seasons and even the second season felt like a gift.

I have a gif or her running but with the new forum rules I don't want to get the mods mad at me.
I didn't consider the 70s WW TV show camp. I remember it being a serious as The Six Million Dollar Man or other action/adventure shows on during family hour. Yes you had the teenage alien prince/princess hiding on Earth plot but during the 70s that was a standard plot.
The did change the setting from the 40s to the present between the 1st and 2nd season when it switched from ABC to CBS. I think during it's last season they tried to make it more appealing to teens (like it needed to). I think the couple of Wonder Girl episodes happened that season.
Edit: Nope, just looked, Wonder Girl was season one during WWII and Nazi fighting.

Well, i won't jump on the portrayal bandwagon as we already have plenty of those threads.
But a Tv show has gotta capitalise on the cliffhanger whether it be a future Live action Batman tv show, wonder woman or my personal favourite.... Spidey. The latter i think I don't think they should of rebooted it back to Ultimate teeny Spiderman for a film in 2012 but instead just recast and continued on in the form of a tv show.
The weekly TV superhero shows with their superb cliffhangers that had you talking about them in school the next day were superb, we really need to get back to that golden age of presenting the genre instead of ploughing hundreds of millions into live action films that may or may-not work and reboot ad nauseum a'la Marvel (Hulk) or DC (Superman) when they fall short of expectation. I used to love the Incredible Hulk TV series and the way that was filmed as an arching story with great cliffhangers, and it was excrutiating that you had to wait a whole week until next Saturday night to find out what happened!.
WW?, could work!. I'll be honest and say that i'm not exactly counting the days to a live action redux. In my opinion the seventies version worked only because it was broadcast then, that special time that was the seventies when sexism and camp was viewed as the acceptable norm and a fashion/lifestyle. I don't know what spin they could put on it now but it would have to be suitably modern and take the DC character seriously.

One post and we're full-circle back to the ingrained 70's sexism that has had the character in limbo for so long.
(by the way thats not aimed at you Nericus, more an observation of the style of the 1970s show and how.... or if... the character can be moved on from Marston's 1940s origins).

And it's safe to say that most guys watching a new series will also not be interested in dialogue and story.
Oh no offense taken. But let's face it, I think it's safe to say that the majority of guys that watched the old TV series were not interested in the dialogue and FX and at times campy humor.

Yeah and all the Twits err sorry Twilight Fans are watching that garbage for the Oscar winning performances.
"Ingrained 70's sexism", what a load of BS.
Well i can't speak for Twilight because i have nor seen it (although am aware of the derision aimed at it). Re: WW the 70's series, you've only got to watch some of the episodes and it won't be long before you come across a cringe-worthy moment that was so ingrained in seventies filming re: the portrayal of women. Its not intentionally written so... but it was written by guys in the seventies and it just falls prey to it time after time.
Of course it wasn't so obvious then to audiences & only in retrospect and looking back from a cultural viewpoint you can see how dated the show is. A new WW Tv show would require an entirely fresh treatment for the character to work.
Here's a quote from Shadowrush.com:
Television writer and producer David E. Kelley will be bringing Wonder Woman back to the small screen with a new series project, reports Deadline. Kelley is best known for creating shows like Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Boston Public and Boston Legal.
Kelley will be writing and producing the show for Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment. There’s no news yet on plot details or in which direction they will go into for this latest reboot of the amazon superheroine, as it is currently being kept under wraps. The project is reported to be heading to the networks shortly.
Warner Bros. Television is currently in the midst of the 10th and final season of CW’s Superman-based Smallville TV series. Wonder Woman may end up filling the gap that will be left by Smallville when the show ends.
Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince, is the primary superheroine from the DC comic books, and is part of DC’s three main characters (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman). Her franchise started back in 1941 and her best known adaptation is the Wonder Woman three-season TV series that aired in the 1970′s, starring Lynda Carter.
The article also mentions that there’s currently a plan for another try at a Wonder Woman film, mentioned back in May by Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer. Warner Bros. will be announcing a new slate of DC movies later this year, which will probably include the feature film.
We’ll keep an eye out for more information on this new Wonder Woman TV show.
I'm curious in what direction this show will take, or what angle they may put into it. I also wonder who they'll get to play as Wonder Woman? Who do you guys want for the series?
