The DC version of Amazons is ridiculous and silly, and leads to the murkyness that CaptainFoamerang was talking about.

But I digress...

I really just hope the show doesn't suck, but I'm sure it will.
Not to Nitpick, but Amazons would worship Artemis. Especially if there's man-killing involved.

Ares followers in general would be mercs, merc warlords and Militaristic leaders. Actually

a counter-culture of Men seperated from the world would make an interesting Dynamic.

Myrmidons V. Amazons.

Oh and a little known fact Lynda Carter Auditioned for the role of Captain Kathryn Janeway

on "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995).

/Emote jumps up and down in consternation doing my best Roscoe Pecole Train impression

Coulda been The Best Star Trek Series EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These kinds of "surprising screen tests" happen all the time in Hollywood.
I've heard about this one several times over the years.

While Lynda Carter is a decent enough actress and probably could have handled being in a Star Trek series I almost think the Wonder Woman thing typecasted her too much for any other established franchise like that. If she had been the captain on Voyager I would have kept expecting her to solve all their problems by spinning into her Wonder Woman outfit and deflecting phaser blasts with her bracelets.

LOL.

I could have lived with that.

I mean Janeway did have superpowers.

A voice that would make Black Canary cover her ears and the super-ability that allowed

her to do everyone's job for them. >.>

Lynda Carter and Jeri Ryan in tight Star Trek outfits?

That would have been awesome.

Hey, imagine the tribute scene they could have done on the holodeck.

I didn't quite say it would've been a "bad thing" but it would have been a distraction for a while.
For instance it took me a couple of seasons of Enterprise to finally get over Captain Quantum Leap.

At least they could have played "superheroes" on the holodeck instead of Paris' Flash Gordon tribute.

When you think about it Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine was actually pretty close to a sci-fi version of Wonder Woman already. She was tough, no-nonsense, smart, statuesque and arguably "amazon-like" in her mannerisms, outlook and determination.

While Lynda Carter on a Star Trek show would have been interesting I think we got a Wonder Woman from Ryan without even realizing it.

I lack the imagination to believe it will be a good series if it makes it to air.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

How many channels were there back in the 70s? People have way too many options these days to waste it on a subpar remake of a show. My confidence in the makers of the show goes down greatly if any of those three are in the lead.

Funny how people said the same thing about Buffy the Vampire Slayer and yet that show was a hit for 7 years, and spawned Angel which ran for 5 years.

Just because you personally don't like an idea doesn't mean it won't be done well and be a huge success.

I said subpar remake. I don't think Buffy, or Angel really fall into those categories. It also helped that those shows weren't on main channels as well, see Smallville lasting 10 seasons. If WW is to come back and be on the major networks, it better be good if it plans on sticking around. Knight Rider and Bionic Woman have both proven nostalgia only gets you so far.

Your saying that now based on hindsight. I'm talking about before buffy was aired when people were talking about it being based on the movie which is so bad it's funny.

So yes this does fall into those categories. We have no idea until after it airs if it will be a subpar remake.

Not to nitpick back, but Ares was considered the father of the Amazonian race, the product of his liaison with Otrera. Artemis is mentioned as a deity they worshipped, but it's not exactly clear many times if it's the Greek version of Artemis. Artemis' temple at Ephesos was supposedly built by Amazons, as the city was supposed to have been founded by them as well.

Ares was never worshipped in cult within the Greek world. Ares was the personification of the destruction caused by war. Soldiers of any stripe gravitated towards Athena, since she was supposed to represent strategy and brilliant thinking to win in combat with the least amount of loss. The Greeks claimed that the Amazons had a link with Ares, as the Amazons were considered a barbarian tribe that supposedly existed on the fringes of what the Greeks considered the civilized world.

I mention Ares because in WW stories he shows up as an antagonist, not as a proud ancient ancestor.

Since it's highly unlikely that any incarnation of WW will be a huge ratings winner, the only place this is likely to end up is the CW. Which means that there's no way it would be about an adult, mature amazon princess. Instead, we'll get a 16 - 19 year old waif who spends her time mooning over boys in between stopping the villain of the week. The boy she spends the most time mooning over will most likely be one of those villains. This show will be set in a typical midwestern High School.

Likely candidates for Wonder Woman:

Taylor Swift

Kristen Stewart

Miley Cyrus

Selena Gomez

Dakota Fanning

Likely candidates for Steve Trevor:

Anyone who looks like Robert Pattinson.

No no no

It will be retconned so that WW will be played by a gay teenage boy who hasn't come to terms with his sexuality and he dresses up as a woman to fight crime. He'll also be the most popular boy in school and have all the girls mooning over him while he secretly fantasizes about getting pinned by the wrestling team.
