Maybe they all died in the crash and whatever it was the water brought them back with abilities.

I liked it, overall, but there was a definite "Disney" feel to it... relationship-angst semi-resolved by episode-end, the daughter's virginity being held up as an example of her 'goodness'... the syrupy sweetness is vexing. (I suppose Chiklis might need that emotional change-of-pace after The Shield, but still...)

Maybe it won't go too far beyond the premiere, but if it does, this will be the killer for me. As for NCIS, no way am I ditching that show - it's the one CBS procedural that hasn't given in to the 'we can only shoot with colors that are found nowhere in nature and that will make your BLEED founts of blood' and the 'all light is Perfect Golden Hour Light' memes. Getting really sick of that.

Hmm, or maybe this isn't real at all? 'Lost' again?

I think both the emphasis on her virginity and peoples' reactions to that emphasis are things that are going to fascinate me and serve as a "meta-show" for the coming season.

I really do think it's going to turn out to be the flower that Stephanie is studying in her research. It was probably pollen from the flower that was in the water that gave them their powers.

I'm with this.

Only problem with that is the locals. Why aren't all the local people super powered? They've been around the plant this whole time, breathing in the pollen, swimming and fishing etc etc.

While I think the plant might have something to do with it, I see it more like Superadine. The company makes a few alterations to the plant and this is the result.

Then again, maybe that's where all the supers come from. A 'Well of the Furies' if you will. Though with the location being Brazil I doubt they'd want to isolate it like that.

I'm more of the opinion that this was a test set up by the company in order to do human research, if they'd died it would've been chalked up to a plane crash in a far away land and forgotten. If they'd mutated the company could've kept it quiet easier with them being isolated in the rain forrest.

Instead the company allows them to return to normal life, while being monitored. To continue the experiment under real world conditions.

Hmmm....
Think I've found my new show! I do love to speculate.

Thinking now that there was a "Crate o' Super Flower" on the plane. When the crash happened, super flower spilled into the water.

I still can't get over that the super scientific mom isn't worried about her own, her husband's or her Kids health. After all, something pretty major has happened to them, you would think she would want to have them at least have a physical or something.

I think we have a winner!

This sounds like the most plausible explanation at the moment.

Well, the entire point of the character is that she's become so obsessed with "Saving" her family by providing lots o' dollars that she's kind of forgot to genuinely care about them.

For frick's sake, their kid has a learning disability, but both parent's are keeping in from getting any sort of care for their own reasons. I don't think they're exactly winning medals here.

Edit: In fact, I think a good portion of the show is that they are actively bad parents. Not abusive or neglectful. Just dreadfully lacking in important areas. The director, however, is touching this with a feint lightness for the sake of a wider demographic and more accessible appeal. Which I appreciate.

Why would there be a crate of super flower on the plane? It was a sight seeing trip that the Dad arranged. Counting on the pilot to crash land in the water and expose everyone without killing them seems pretty haphazard. And that's assuming the company has a weather controller to whip up the bad weather that caused the crash to occur in the first place.

As for why the whole area isn't teaming with superpowered people, perhaps the flower isn't located in a highly populated area. We are talking about the Amazon after all. How fast was that plane? How far could it have traveled in a half hour? I wouldn't be surprised if they'd been 100+ miles out of Belem at the time the plane crashed.

I realized this five seconds after my post and hoped no one would notice.

Why is everyone so big on Glee?

I tried watching it. Sat through maybe two episodes and part of another, but the complete absence of any likeable characters drove me away.

I'm guessing it's for those who like musicals.

Depends on the episodes. I won't derail here, but maybe bring it to the Glee thread, and you may get some answers.

I feel the exact same way. But I turn it on because normally there's nothing else in that timeslot that interests me, and because the music is all right and sometimes they do a mashup that's excellent. It's background music. I wish I could have my TV auto-mute the show whenever the music isn't playing.

I had Glee on by default last Monday, so I missed the premiere of NOF. Won't happen again next week.

I think the lack of likeable characters is akin to The Office: You're not supposed to truly like them. They're mostly horrible people getting what they deserve and occasionally getting it right. A good cache of humor in the show is raw, uncut schadenfreude.

It's because Glee has become less dependable than it was. For most of the first season, I knew that on most episodes I'd find myself both laughing and crying (what...what...?). The last few have been much more hit and miss, though, and this format of "whose music will we do THIS week" just seems so forced that it leaves me a bit cold. It still has its moments, though.

So far my least enjoyed show of the season is "The Non-Event."

Got to love the people that say "this is what I wanted heroes to be".

It's only been one episode...how the hell can you say that right now.

When a show achieves in a single episode what people wanted, what Heroes wasn't able to do it in it's entire run, that's how.

My point is that, so far...in only one episode...NOF has done nothing that Heroes hasn't already done.
