Yeah, but they did it in one episode. Not four years.

Which is the point. Heroes dragged out stuff for SO LONG that they lost a lot of viewers who got bored.

Yeah, because Heroes never had super fights on screen.

I can tell you've been emotionally hurt by the off-screen fights between Sylar and Peter...because it's clearly interfering with knowledge of the show.

Heroes has had many superfights on screen.

Heroes didn't do it in the first episode because people were just finding out about their abilities. They didn't find out they had abilities and then go fight crime 20 mins later.

Anyways...I was just trying to point out how it was unfair to compare this show to heroes after only one episode...but clearly, that does not matter.

Didn't read the rest of the thread, did ya?

The vast majority of those fights had people either standing there posing as CGI effects few around, or they basically had quick cut flashes of them running and then flashes of light meant to represent "stuff happening too fast to see".

There weren't really any knock down drag out fights, cars getting smashed, actors getting slammed around.

I think Heroes was afraid to put their actors in any situations where their pretty faces might get injured.

That fight lasted less than 45s.

Do you forget how Sylar constantly slammed people around with his TK?

Again...I think you all are just letting your Heroes hate cloud what was actually shown.

Well TK is sort of a one sided power along with Matt's Jedi mind tricks or Hiro's Time Stop. It's not a fight unless the other party gets a swing or two in.

Yes, it's only one episode of NOP and as far as we know they blew their FX budget on it, we'll see next week.

I'll tell you what they did that Heroes didn't. They had characters who thought their powers were cool and wanted to use them.

Heroes during it's entire run only had a couple heroes who wanted to use their powers to help others, or for that matter to use them at all. And when those people did use their powers they were punished for it. Examples, Hiro losing Charlie then getting the aneurysm. Mohinder trying to give himself powers and becoming a freak. Peter getting sued for being super paramedic. Daphne getting shot. If they just used their powers for selfish reasons or hid their powers they pretty much did ok. It's when they tried to help that the world dropped on their heads.

Sure in No Ordinary Family the girl immediately whined "But I don't want powers." but she seems to have changed her mind by the end of the episode. And the rest of them are doing what real people would do. They are enjoying the fact that they have super powers instead of crying about it and looking for a cure.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Heroes. I just hated the fact that the producers and directors seemed to have a vendetta that stated "Using super powers for the good of others is a bad bad thing you should be ashamed of and will result in bad karma.".

Hiro, Peter, Sylar, Micah, all 12 members of the original group...probably missing some as well.

All characters who embraced their powers.

Compared to 4 characters in NOF.

EDIT: You can praise NOF all you want...as I too think it will be a good show...but exaggerating details and flat out making things up to "show how much better NOF is than Heroes" is a bit absurd.

Well the folks who did embrace their abilities on Heroes were neutered in some way or another in the show, which is what I think he alluded to when he said the show seemed to have something against characters who liked having powers.

Alright...then how does he/she know that NOF isn't going to do that?

My point is that it is ridiculous to compare this show to Heroes after only one episode.

And my point is that their son had a generic learning disability. What was it? What's up with this kid? Can he solve the Big Bang Theory? And by that I mean, can he figure out how a show about nerds is successful?

5 characters. I'm pretty sure the Obama Mask robber had embraced his power.

Eh, I think it's understandable after trudging along with a show that kept on disappointing.

I mean if after Smallville was over they premiered a new show about Superman that had good characterization, respectable metahuman fights, smart characters, and good dialogue I wouldn't be surprised if people immediately said it was superior.

After one episode?

It just seems like Heroes hate to me...and it wasn't even justified.

You say "Heroes hate" as if folks who stuck with the show season after season didn't have reason to hate the show after all the times they'd been let down. It's not blind, ignorant hate. It's absolutely justified.

Not what's being said in this thread.

Listen...I'm not saying Heroes is the best show at all.

All I'm saying is that...it's absurd to say that this is what you wanted heroes to be after only one episode. It's ridiculous to exaggerate and make things up about a show in order to make another show look better.

Er, but folks keep pointing to how Peter and Sylar kept getting into off-camera fights, and that's true.

They also bring up how those who embraced their abilities were limited, thrown away, or poorly written, and that's true.

Who's making things up?

They were talking about superfights in general on heroes...not just peter vs sylar...which makes their point untrue.

"They also bring up how those who embraced their abilities were limited, thrown away, or poorly written, and that's true."

They're basing this point on precognitive notions that NOF will differ from this. Again, bringing home my point that it's ridiculous to compare after one episode.

Well when the show builds up to those fights that end up being off-camera for their season finales and such, I think it's fair to base judgment on that, since you'd think they'd want to put their best foot forward and if the best they can do is a non-fight, folks have a right to be disappointed.

Folks aren't saying that NOF will be great; they're saying Heroes already sucked.

Exactly

What I am saying is I enjoyed this ONE episode of NOF more than the entire of seasons 2,3,and so on of Heroes, and that I look forward to more.

Also, the Super-battles, yeah, there was like 2 or maybe 3 good ones in ALL of heroes, and I don't really remember them, where as, the fake hero fights, like the one where Scarface Pete and President Syler fight off camera with blinking lights, sticks in my mind like hot lead of DOOM!

Yeah, the whole Mexican Road-trip was so... good! Such good tv right there. Just a great way to bring back Syler! So interesting and realistic! LOL Sorry, I'm very bitter. Heroes was a great idea broken.

For anyone else like me, who missed the pilot, ABC is supposed to be showing it again in about seven minutes (9pm EST).
