Powers that really don't make sense

Willpower as a Tanker or Brute powerset is really silly if played as if it is actually Willpower.

Was in a group with a /DP defender, someone said "switch to healing bullets!"
I still suspect there are people who think that Trick Arrow actually has a power named "healing arrow". |
There's this manga where healing bullets exist. It was about this Sorceress in a wild west type setting. So she, of course, had a revolver. She had a bunch of magic bullets, one of which healed one of the characters. He was shot and dying, so she shoots him in the chest with that "healing bullet".

Propel. The description mentions that you 'open a gravitational rift and take an object from someplace' - does that mean that all over the world, people's forklifts, file cabinets and gargoyles are mysteriously going missing?

Gotta love the irony on that one.
And here was a bit of metaphor shear; the other night I was on a PuG, and or mission was to Stop a Jailbreak. While in the cellblock of the Paragon PD, I KB'd a minion into a cell, through the solid door. We could not "arrest" this last minion because he was stuck in a police jail cell... |
Solar Flare. Why have it incompatible with a PB's inherent flight? WTF?
...until you realize that Cloaking Device+Smoke Grenade are intended to be your methods of delivery for Time Bomb and Trip Mine.

Well, it kind of wouldn't make sense that a group that's hit by a blinding flash of light or caught in a smoke screen would instantly turn to the guy that fired it and know exactly where it came from and all of the group are still coordinated to fire at that target simultaneously.
For me, the big ones are the "stealth" powers that should be doing just about anything other than providing stealth.
Steamy Mist, Cloak of Darkness, Smoke Grenade When a big fog bank suddenly rolls through the office building or when everything goes completely dark or when a giant cloud of smoke suddenly fills the room, you'd think the enemy would be going "uh-oh, we've got company" rather than blithely standing there . . . As a "well what would you do with these powers", I'd make Steamy Mist and Cloak of Darkness a PBAoE -ToHit DeBuff and also provide a +Defense Buff to you and teammates. (You're hard to see/target so the +Def and anyone actually caught in the cloud has trouble seeing out/through it so the -ToHit) For Smoke Grenade, I'd just to a bigger -ToHit DeBuff and drop the -Perception (SG's "stealth" effect) or even leave both, but drop the "no aggro" effect. |
The more realistic type of effect would be to simply add code that changes a stationary group into a patrol group when you use these powers. They still wouldn't know where it came from but they'd at least look for it.

Hm, after stopping it mid-animation with a screenshot, you're right. I always thought it looked like you were throwing out a pair of metal blade-things, especially since they spin, but they do look more like a generic shockwave. Lame.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Well put- this is a power that not only makes no sense, it is also designed impossibly poorly. WTF.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.
"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."

Its beyond lame.

Claws work by concentrating force on a small surface area. They're sharp. They're the smallest sharp set, smaller than swords, spines or any of the knives in Dual Blades. They're therefore ideally unsuited to creating a shockwave.
Wafting the air with wings or razor sharp fans, or superstrong hands (like Hand clap) or just about any other melee set makes way more sense than creating a shockwave with claws.
And there's always Energy Torrent for the oddball concept whose cosmic claws can ripple space, or whatever.
Uhh, There are other powers that simply require you to be near the ground to activate, but you can use hover. Triage Beacon, Acid Mortar, and Trip Mine are examples.
All are devices you can turn on and then drop on the ground. You cannot do that with your foot. Quit your whining.
Ok, this one has bugged me for a long time. I can control mighty winds and the weather and, oh yeah, I can make you feel better with a breath of fresh air...
Just doesn't make sense.

Trip mine - the name itself tells what would trigger it (a trip"wire") which in the power's case appears to be a laser trigger.
I don't think you can really *drop* a trip mine without it blowing up :P.
|
Dropping it would not set it off. You could likely drop a pressure mine, depending on the setting, height, etc. and not set it off.
You go ahead and sit in a chair and see if you can place an object on the ground without your feet or any part of your body touching the ground. Assuming you have 2 working arms and have at least an IQ of 70 you should be able to do it. Then try to stomp without touching the ground, see how that works for you.

The name says it all O2 burst. It's not just air, it's a targeted burst of high-oxygen-concentration air.

As an asthmatic individual who has been rescued at least once that I can remember by the timely application of an oxygen mask system, I can vouch for the fact that getting a bit more oxygen with each breath does in fact make you feel better.
I agree that the direct healing aspect is a bit off and it would be more correct as a power that gives a Regen and recovery bonus instead of an instant heal with a lasting bit of mez protection, but it is still logically sound in that you're making the target feel better by clearing all the extra crap out of the air they're breathing with your elemental control.

Okay, now I'm getting annoyed at this thread. The power is O2 Boost, not Burst.

Also, if I had such a super power in real life, I would make a killing by opening up my own Oxygen Bar.

Any guns, rifles or just advanced weaponary. somehow lvling up makes the bullets hurt more.

Doesn't Propel also summon a toilet? That'd be a surprise for the poor person that was using it at the time...
