I Love The Market When/Because...
...when I sell purple immobilizes for 200m.
...when I log into an underplayed alt, she has tons of base salvage and it sells!
...when I buy recipes on my level 17 Tanker and vendor them, giving me SO range influence.
...when I find out that stuff in my base is, indeed, valuable and I sell it for a hefty markup.
...because it's an easy way to make money while trading goods to other players.
...because it's a mini-game that benefits everyone that uses it!

I love the market when common salvage sells for 100k because I know I'll be able to get drunk on the delicious tears of 'casual gamers' calling for price caps.

Heh. Candycane time is fast approaching.
I love the market because, after a few pointers from this forum, I was able to get all my TOs, DOs and SOs when I needed them without having to worry about inf.
I love it because almost exactly 2 months after starting the game for the first time, I'm sitting on over 1 billion inf on one character and half a billion on another (thanks again to tips and info from all of you that post here - and I know people have made bigger fortunes quicker, but I'm happy with the results, heh)
Also I think spending a little time learning how the market works has helped me learn a lot more about IO sets a lot quicker than I would have done otherwise.
And yes, I love seeing the blue 'You have sold...' message too

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
...I buy a stack of things a year ago, and then somebody orders one up now.
...I can afford to give away res/+defs and -kbs to SG mates.
...I log in and have snagged 3 Theft of Essence +ends since I last checked.
... That without trying, without marketeering, without actively generating money at all, I'm still sitting on billions of inf, knowing that all sorts of people are complaining about the market being too hard, and that the only thing that separates my habits from theirs is a small amount of knowledge, knowledge freely available.
I'm very happy to be an elitist when the line between 'elite' and 'not elite' is the effort it requires to cook a decent meal.
...5 minutes a day of making and selling generic IO's got two toons to the inf cap (and has kept them going significantly beyond it) in about a year where I was playing the game anyway.
...when I list common salvage and it goes instantly for 15k a piece, i still ask myself 'who are these loons willing to pay so much?'
...I needed (or wanted, they blurred together) a low level numina's regen/recovery about a year ago on my Dark/Stone scranker, and got one for 'free' by selling a spare purple recipe that my main had acquired somewhere along the lines (it was a Ranged Damage one I was carrying two of, because I don't use or sell purples, I keep them), and since I paid nothing for the recipe, and it paid for the Numina's, Hurrah! Free Unique!
...pretty much any rare salvage drop is just another 1-2million inf now that my bank is full of the stuff, and that's just by listing at 75% or thereabouts of the low end of the last 5 prices.
...it allows me to mentally flag people who complain that making inf in this game is too hard as 'idle'

Im pretty sure Talen meant "the effort it takes to drool on a keyboard"
Not drooling on a keyboard is hard......cooking microwave whatever....even harder than the market!!!
I love the market because i can sell gen Io's for too much.....thanks to casual gamers being too lazy to make it themselves.
I love that I can randomly drop 20 million on someone I'd never met in the D because he needed to make costume changes and couldn't afford it... and still have ten times that left over on a character who hadn't marketeered.
I love seeing my stupidly lowball 6 figure winning bids in the middle of 4 other 7 or 8 figure bids.
I think what I like most about this market is the people the complain about profiteers and the like. Complaints about prices and availability give me a chuckle when I think about the people that makes the same complaint when gas prices go up ten cents or a popular toy is sold out on december 24th.
For visual aids:
Gimme gimme gimme and 3min 30s, I want I want I want
The truth is far too much fun...
I can go in there with my pretend video game play money, bid high on all the things I need, so I don't have to wait more than 1 second to see "bought", and pay way too much for most things....but say to myself, hey, who cares, it's only pretend video game play money and anyone who spends a second longer than they need to at the auction house is wasting their subscription money......just to rake in billions and billions in pretend video game play money!!! For what???
But, at the end of the day, I am putting a smile on all your faces with my foolish purchases, aren't I?? So everyone's a winner!!
...when I log in and complain to my wife that I have to email myself another few hundred million before I can claim anything, and she throws something at me.
...when I can email a hundred million to a SG mate working on a build without thinking twice, because I had to email it away anyway to claim what I had waiting for me.
...when I log in and find that I've finally bought something I've had a lowball bid sitting on forever on a lesser-used alt, because despite having more wealth than I can reasonably spend, I'm still a cheapskate at heart and refuse to buy it nao. =)
...because anybody with a pulse and two functioning neurons can get rich on this market, if they're willing to put in the effort.
...because however happy it makes me to get fake moneys and buy shiny lewts, there is someone else who is just as happy to buy my shiny lewts and take my fake moneys.

... when I log in and see stacks of waiting recipes.
... when I log in to find all teh salvages I need were filled overnight at lowball prices.
... when I rotate through my army of market drones and have to find one who isn't capped at 2B.
... when people I know complain about how hard it is to make Inf and don't listen to the advice that pours freely here.
... because Marketears make the best Iced Tea.
...when I list common salvage and it goes instantly for 15k a piece, i still ask myself 'who are these loons willing to pay so much?' ' |
i think crafting is boring and buying all the salvage too. especially when you have like 70 recipies to craft.
... I can buy 400K prestige for the RP Supergroup I joined that night to set up a decent base, without hurting myself in any other area.
... I can make Mondo spaz about wasting money on level 25 frankenslotting.
... I can spend millions per enhancement at level 22 without actually spending any sort of significant Inf.
... my highest level character is 27, and I'm richer than most 50s I talk to.
Because of that baffling little tickle I get every time I buy a Purple recipe at 120M, craft it, and sell it to someone for 200M, despite the fact that the recipe is probably still available at 125M.
Because I get to pontificate in kind of a gigglingly speculative way - like I'm about to - just how I made 7 billion off the market in largely this fashion. Who did I make that money off of? Anyone that lazy doesn't seem like they'd have the motivation to get the money to actually buy it in the first place. I can only conclude that the people who buy crafted enhancements at 80M over their recipe value are people who for whatever reason believe crafting tables killed their savior and are forbidden to touch the devil's instrument.
...I've lost count of how much inf. I have.

...I log onto a character and those beautiful blue letters that read "You have 0 bought and 1 sold..." show up under the MOTD. And I know I only had one IO for sale on that character at a huge markup! Yay profits.
What are your happy market moments?
