Cape & Aura missions

So I log into one of my older characters today, a level 36 blaster, and decide I want to update my costume options. I have capes already, did the cape mission awhile ago. So I went to City Hall to start on the Aura mission.

There I stand before the City Representative, wearing my cape. What's the only mission available? Earn a cape. So I send a shout in Broadcast and the reply I get back is, there's a new twist at the end of the story, so I should just go ahead and do it because its cool.

Yeah... I know. I've done the new cape mission on another character that hadn't earned capes yet. I shouldn't have to do it again for a character that has them already. But other players insist that this is now the way of things.

Why? And how can I get my auras without running all over Paragon City again for something I already have?

You need to run through the new cape mission before you can get the aura mission. It's not that tough or long to do, and is quite fun.

Why is it done this way? The City Rep only offers two missions. In order to get the second, you need to have done the first. Since the first one was replaced, you aren't flagged as having completed it yet.

No, it is not quite fun to do it again.

Yeah, I kind of liked it when I did it with a newer character that hadn't earned a cape. Denying me access to auras until I "earn a cape" a second time is rediculous... even if it took only 5 minutes.

But it does take longer and I have absolutely hated the fact that super heroes in Paragon City are required to earn a cape ever since the rediculous concept was first introduced. Its even more annoying for characters that don't even want capes but do want that aura. "Go earn a cape and then we can talk auras." But I don't want a cape. "Too bad."

If this is some weaksauce attempt to get people to try the new thing, I'm curious to know why they didn't try that when they revamped the Positron TF... How come they didn't take back the badge from everyone who had it and make them earn it over again?

Seriously, the arc takes, what, 15 minutes to do?

Its an annoyance to have to do it again. But hey, since you don't mind... why don't you do it for me?

Its funny, when someone finds an exploit, its all hush-hush while they rush to fix it... and anyone that takes advantage of the exploit in the meantime is subject to punishment. But when they do something wrong that only exploits the player, just tell the players to enjoy it because its new content.

Whoop-de-freakin'-doo. I did do the new mission content already on other characters. So having to do it again on a character I shouldn't need to is rediculous.

Especially when I have older characters that have auras and no cape. That's right, before the new content, you didn't have to complete the cape mission to get to the auras... you only had to be eligible (level requirement). So why is it that now after this new content is in place, the aura mission is dependant also on completing the cape mission first?

Its B.S.

It was done just to offend you

Personally, I don't care. It only takes a few minutes to complete and its not like that's too much time out of your life.

I don't mind being exploited -- it's not like it's Nazism, or worse: a slap in the face!

Its not earth shattering annoying, but it is somewhat annoying that you have to do it again. Certaintly dont think OP needs all the aggresssion for pointing that out.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

I don't really get it either, and I thought we used to have the option to not do the cape mission and do the aura mission if we so chose. I seem to remember doing it, as this new setup is odd to me. I find it annoying as well, and rather wish they would change it.

A bit heavy on the angst from everyone on the issue in this thread, though. Can't we all get along?

What aggression? There's a post with an explanation as to why it works the way it does, a couple of jokingly sarcastic comments (including in my own post) and that's pretty much it. Seriously, the only thing that could even be considered aggressive (and probably wasn't intended in that way) was the 15 minutes comment. So you might want to reign in the horses there a little before saying we're all being aggressive.

You dont consider that sacrastic comments equals aggressive comments O.o

About a year ago, on Freedom server, outside of Icon:

Tell from a level 30, scantily-clad female toon: Hey there! I need my aura mish but I dont feel like running it. Could you run it for me, I'll just stand inside the door and you clear the mishes? I'm kinda busy and don't have time. Pretty-please?

My level 18 Blaster: Dude, I'm level 18. I dont think that will work too well, especially for that Rikti hunt in Crey's.

This was in the days before that nifty-handy auto-SK feature, mind you True story.

It might not be fire & brimstone, omgwtfbbq, the game is ending armageddon...BUT

I do agree that capes and auras should be separate from each other. This isn't like some sort of college course where you have prerequisite courses.. it's a game. The beauty of CoH/V is the abundance of choices a player can make, why create a forced situation where there is little to no choice? It's counter-intuitive at best.

15 minutes is often my entire evening's gaming.

If I had to waste it on a busywork mission I've already completed I'd be annoyed.

I think it sucks that the two missions are now linked when they quite obviously don't have to be.

I support the OP in pointing out this unnecessary annoyance.

same , also why is villian side Aura mish so flipp'n annoying to do as well ?

You missed the fact that I had the word "jokingly" in there.

You dont HAVE to do the mission. You can auto complete it and still earn the cape.

You're missing the point. It's requiring a mission that doesn't need to be required. Whether you complete it or auto-complete it, it should be optional.

I know it's not that big of a deal, but it's a little annoyance. And annoyances are bad when you're playing a game and trying to have fun.

Which is kind of stupid. There are plenty of times when a contact will offer a choice of two missions and the police scanner offers a choice of three. There's no reason the City Rep can't offer both missions without having them linked.

The Rep used to offer both if you were 30+. i have a few alts who never did the cape mission and only did the aura mission because they weren't going to use a cape. Of course this was before new mission was added.

Exploiting the player?!? Really? That's what you are going with? Those two examples have not one thing in common with one another. What, you still burning about the AE issues after i14?

I gotta agree with Tans here. There is definately some uncalled for aggression in this thread. Some people don't like capes and therefore shouldn't have to do it, it's that simple. It's like you're waiter telling you have to eat your entree first before they'll bring you your dessert. Yeah it's a small annoyance, but it's an annoyance that has no reason to be.
