If you have/had an aion account you might have gotten a mail telling you your account is under investigation and you should login at the link specified.

It's a scam. If you try log in there, they'll have your login info.

Pfft. I get 2-3 emails a day inviting me to the Cataclysm beta while telling me my WoW account is under investigation. Which is a neat trick, given I don't have one.

I think I've gotten three WoW/Blizzard related phishing scams in the last week (never had an account and haven't been to their website in like four years). Yeah, Internet 101 says don't trust emails about anything or go where they ask unless it can be verified from another (preferably official) site. And even then, just use the other site.

Dec out.

i keep getting those wow emails, that my account is under investigation on my MSN email... which i don't use ever
And it's certainly not the email i used on my wow account.

Yeah I've been getting a LOT of WoW phishing emails lately mostly either "your account is under investiagtion" or "you have a cataclysm invite". The one I found interesting was the one that purported to be an email from Blizzard reporting a GM action that had restored several thousand gold to my character

I never had an Aion account and never got a letter like this before. I sent this to the NC Support Staff.

Only a complete and utter imbecile would click a link in an email like that, considering that everyone here is smart enough to be able to find the forums then I'd hope they wouldn't take an email like that seriously.

I've gotten Both, I've gotten an Aion Scam mail (luckily I don't have an Account)

and I've gotten a Blizzard Email telling me my Account's been compromised.(Nice try since it's been 4 years since I've actually played WoW) I've gotten the Beta Cataclysm invite as well. Ya it sucks, but rule #1 never click the linky in the email. Always go to the main site.

Correct, I checked it and it goes to a fake site that uses ncsoft-xxxxxxx.info as the name. That is a tip off. Additionally as mentioned above never click a link in an email to go to your account information.

The other tip off is it came to the wrong email address. Interestingly I've received 4 different attempts to get me to confirm my blizzard account. Mind you that one I don't even have. Clearly someone is trying to farm players or potential players.

When I'm bored, I follow them on an incognito window and give all fake information, such as username "no idiot will fall for this". A couple of times I've had the scammers email me back to say "you think you're clever, but we get thousand of accounts this way". While I won't take a scammer word's for it, I don't doubt that they get a lot of accounts; many people forget to bring their brains with them when they go online.

I think Blizzard has gotten to the point of investigating accounts of people who haven't made one..

Blizzard Exec: We need more money! How come we don't have more people on WoW

Blizzard Employee: Well Sir we can't make people join our game.. Plus 7 million users is still a lot sir, there aren't that many more MMO fans to get...

Exec: That's just absurd... Starting now I want a team of people investigating accounts of people that haven't joined WoW yet, find out why I don't have their money and make them give it to me!

Employee: You want us to investigate accounts people have made yet and force those people to give us money?

Exec: Yes, do it! ::Evil laugh.:

Employee: ::confused look.:: Okay sir, I'll get a team right on that...

Now that I think about it, that joke started off better in my mind. Ohh well, I'm posting it.

Unfortunately, many people forget to take their brains along when they go anywhere. I guess they think they'll keep it safe by locking it away in a cabinet in the secret room behind the hidden panel in the closet of the house down the street. Can't be too safe you know.

I just got this one today, I'll post the first couple lines. it's too funny, i had to post it somewhere.

An investigation of your AION account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded. As you may not be aware of,this conflicts with Blizzard's EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:

note the game and the company. classic.

sorry for the semi necro.

Hey WowHater@Wowsucks.com! You have been invited to the cataclysm beta! By the way your account is under investigation.

And yet, the Going Rogue beta invitation e-mails had links in them, and one even had a misspelling in the title ("City of Heoes") to make things more suspicious. At least, I know several people who got that e-mail and were in the beta, so I think it was legit. I personally got about four beta invites, many of which I'm pretty sure were legit, so who knows.

A CoH closed beta invite can be confirmed by simply logging onto the test server, or checking the forums to see if you have access to the closed beta forums

Furthermore CoH beta invites refer you to a forum moderator if you can't login to the test server or see the CB forums.

Yes, but considering all the warnings we get from them about scam e-mails, it was kinda a weird move on NCSoft's part to send out an e-mail that looks really similar to a lot of the spam ones. My earlier post wasn't saying 'clicking links is okay sometimes,' it was 'the GR beta invite e-mails were kind of poorly done.' I know of several people who thought it was a scam when they first saw the e-mail.

Pro tip: on a lot of email clients, you can see the DNS or provider that originally sent the email. For example, if you're getting an email that from "@ncsoft.com" that's coming from Hotmail, it's probably bogus (somebody altering the sender address).
