Alpha Slot Removed from Going Rogue
From the Issue 16 Announcement and information post, bolded for emphasis:
"Sidekicking Changes: Super-Sidekicking! One player can now sidekick or exemplar the whole team, everyone can always play together! Each player in the group's level is set to the level of the owner of the active team task. If no team task is selected, everyone in the group's level will be set to the level of the team leader. When the team level changes, players will be notified via a dialog and have the option to quit the team or immediately accept. The dialog will time out after 30 seconds at which point acceptance is implied. While in the pending state, players cannot receive rewards and any critters they damage will be worth no experience. Players can choose to auto-accept team level changes 0 to 50 levels above or below their current level. Exemplars will now earn XP and a level capped person will get XP converted into influence like exemplars used to." |
Shame. Was looking forward to this feature. But *deep sigh* yeah, better do it right the first time.
Color me disappointed, disheartened and let down but not surprised.
All along I though it was strange that this little piece of a much bigger whole called endgame content was tagged on at all. Its completely out of character for how this game has been managed over the years. I also don't expect we will see endgame/incarnate content in 2010. I'm sure we'll see I19 but it'll be a "light" issue full of content nobody was expecting.
As the old saying goes: fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me...
Never again.

My City Was Gone
With respect, every single one of those was via word of mouth or special information intimately shared with the "private" fan base/con attendees. I still haven't seen any advertisements, press releases, or box art that outright says COH:GR:INCARNATES.
I don't like it either, but I'm not going to trot out the old "SLAP IN THE FACE" that some people have. To suggest that it was a deliberate maneuver, or that there has been some manner of criminal bait-and-switch pulled, is ludicrous. It was an extra feature that we were looking forward to. It still is. If the Incarnate sneak peek was the ONLY reason you bought GR in advance, and you haven't ONCE played DS or DP, well then you have my condolences. Also: revisionist history? Really? |
If you're OK with a company selling you a product then yanking features AFTER you buy it, that's fine, but some of us are not. But there really is no argument as to whether or not this feature was advertised in multiple instances as being a part of GR, without question it was.

So would you prefer a feature that doesn't work properly, or a delay to the launch date of GR?
|
I'd prefer they get their work done correctly and on time, that's how it works in most businesses, well, businesses that stay in business. If you're not sure you can get a feature in, don't promote it while pre-selling said product. For them to talk about the first incarnate level being in GR how many months ago, they should have been very confident it was good to go, now a month before release, its suddenly too broken to put in?
And GR has already been delayed. Ultramode was supposed to be released along with GR, they released it earlier because GR was taking longer than expected. When can we look forward to the incarnate system, late 2011? I have a feeling their knack for missing deadlines, and slow movement, is why there was a recent power shuffle at paragon studios, though perhaps too late to prevent this problem. Hopefully the situation improves as they move forward.
Now to more directly answer your original question. I'd like to see more new stuff for my money, even if it isn't 'perfect'. Maybe lessen the focus on stopping the dreaded 'farmers' and nerfing things, and more focus on releasing new content. Put the GR paid expansion aside - what are players getting this year for their subscription money? Ultramode which is bascially some shadows and reflections, the COP trial which was supposed to be out several years ago, and a few new 'mirror' missions. That's pretty bad, imo. Now if you buy the paid expansion, it looks like we'll get some new zones and lvl 1-20 content, side switching missions, and four new powersets. Not bad, but nothing overwhelming considering its a paid expansion, especially now that one of the more interesting features that expanded playability for level 50 characters has been pulled indefinitely. And just look at a feature that is being reintroduced at the same time (cop trial) to see how long indefinitely can be in this game.
Now I know that the boards here are filled with unwaivering loyalists, but it's absurd to claim people don't have reason to be critical of recent situations in this game. And I do this as a fan of this game who enjoys the vast majority of what the game makers have done here. But for this game to continue to survive, and I want it to continue to survive, they need to do a better job of getting new content out in a more timely fashion.
So would you prefer a feature that doesn't work properly, or a delay to the launch date of GR?

A small sample in fact. Most players weren't even given a chance to see it, let alone given the chance to give their opinions on if it was good enough.
I have to laugh at Positron's hypocrisy. In the past they've had no problems allowing powers to exist that had "limited use" and were deemed "bad" by players. Hand Clap anyone? We had an entire thread about the worst powers in the game not that long ago filled with examples.
They don't do anything about those powers, but now suddenly their questionable standards of quality has them push the sole reason quite of a few people even bought GR back to the Fall? Right.
When AE got pushed back it was because as a community we were informed about what it wouldn't contain and many suggested that it be delayed so it could be released with a full list of features. We were given the facts and people voted with their replies. In this case they only gave the facts to a select few and held a vote in secret.
People prepaid in good faith with the reasonable expectation that on the release date, GR would have the features they paid for. It's not unreasonable to assume that some, even many, would not have given up their money so early if they had known that what they paid for would not be ready for some months after the release date for the product.
.
Disappointed!
A few new costumes, a little bit of low level content, and a few new powers......
I've figured out what toons I like to play by now and the rest just sit collecting vet badges, this new post 50 content is what had me ready to buy, thank goodness I waited.
Yeah they better roll incarnates out before November because DCUO is where my money will be going since they will have TONS more costumes, powers, and content to play with. How do you create a system that is something that you can't even use outside of incarnate leveling content?! "Gee maybe these guys will want to use these new atttributes during some of the other already established gameplay...."
Maybe they should have put that great "walk" feature on the back burner and used that time to really think of what people would like out of the new abilities. Here's to incarnates, hopefully it's not the "work in progress" that the new pvp has been for some time now.

.
Has that been confirmed yet? That you can't use Incarnate abilities in typical level 50 content?
. |
But really your whole thing here, just stop.
The **** wasnt right, so they took it out. I am happy.
(How often do you EVER see me happy on these boards?)
No. Nothing has been confirmed.

That this is a repetitive theme for this dev team. They just aren't good enough at creating real the lvl 50 content in a timely manner. It only been 6 years. Maybe its time to clean house?

Well, I'm prtetty sure they wanted to - but it hasn't quite turned out that way, so they're faced with either giving it to us when it doesn't work, or delaying the release of GR.

Yes granted there will be a lot of useless, unhelpful, unachievable, etc... posts but at least you will get a general idea.
