A plea in the name of in-game events and Giant Monsters everywhere!
Which is why I said: If someone has the build to solo a GM, the rewards should be nerfed for those that do solo the GMs. It's all well and good someone can afford to put together such a build to do such a thing, but it takes away from others that rely on teams to do so.
But lowering the rewards also lowers the incentive to make a build to DO that anyways. You would never see it happening, and like I said if it were up to me Giant Monsters wouldn't even be solo-able. They would require great effort from a large amount of players for a great reward at an infrequent rate. That's my ideal situation. Bite-sized Hamidons, all of them.
I remember seeing that, as well as him mentioning repeated repeated repeated trips back to the insp store. It can be done. GM soloing is something the rich and the bored can afford.

I think that if anyone wants to spend the time, inf, and effort to take down a GM solo, they pretty much deserve the rewards they can get.

I'm all for making GMs more interesting to fight. Lusca should be tearing up the docks and tossing ships or crates. I agree there is no urgency to fighting any of the GMs and I will only fight them if I'm in a helpful mood.
I'm hoping someday we will see a game that has a more interactive environment. While not what I was hoping for but at least a start, I played some of the GR levels at Comic-con and you get a mission that has clickies(just collecting roses) out in the open world.
I agree wholeheartedly with the OP and 99% of the posters here. GM's are supposed to be a threat, an immediate and incredibly dangerous to the local populous threat. And it just isnt there.
Yesterday, I arranged a team to take down Deathsurge, (just missed scrappy) and then Caleb. And whilst Caleb is easy to spawn, the guy is just a pain in the backside to find! And if you haven't got someone on the team with a -fly toggle, there's every possibility that he will fly away and you wont be able to catch him again. If you assume that a team of 8 (with mixed levels and mixed AT's) takes between 4 and say 15 minutes (depending on how low those levels actually are) to take down something like Caleb, 2 merits and a badge aren't exactly worth it. Some of the shorter ouro mishes take 25 minutes and fork out 8+ merits? It's hardly fair that you can solo those if you've got an awesome build, whereas a team of 8 who are doing what theyre meant to by teaming get shafted over on merits, infamy, and rewards.
Please note that I'm only using redside GM's as an example because I don't play blue, it goes against my moral code lol.
A definite hike in reward is needed, whether it be more merits, a hell of a lot more infamy, a badge after a series of defeats which then leads to an accolade, or even as someone suggested, a chance of a decent recipe rather than just some junky thing that sells for nothing and is rarely used, would be a pleasant change.
The arachnos flier in GV has got to be joint tied with Caleb for levels of irritation though. Unless you're in zone at the time it spawns, with a full team of 8 with access to flight powers, there's relatively little chance you're going to kill it with a pick-up-group. It needs attention at some point I think. The wiki page suggests that it spawns every 2-8 hours, and at dusk, but I think i've only ever seen it in channel announcements four or five times in a year. and I play pretty much every day for several hours at a time, which is more than enough days in GV!
Of course with GR and i18 coming out, and hopefully i19 shortly after, all the devs are going to be super busy. It'd just be nice to know that there is a reason for hunting GM's rather than you're bored and there happen to be a lot of people on newish toons.
TL;DR
More rewards, more GMs redside, and more motivation for getting them beaten down please devs!
Nicely put Max, and I'm glad there's a full red-side perspective as well, I was fairly certain it was a similar situation. I have red-side toons, but I live purely in the pvp zones.
I was just thinking, maybe somewhere a bit farther down the line there's room for reworking GMs to the extent in my OP (and maybe those zone events too..), but there is absolutely time to tweak their rewards in some way relatively soon.
Bump for Monster Justice in a game that doesn't seem to care anymore.
I've got nothing to say on the subject that wasn't covered on the first page, but I'd like to go on record as supporting a tweak to the GM reward levels. They are absolutely pathetic right now.
I still see groups form...for certain events. I was on a Jack team earlier (though only one team was present. We took him down easily) and fought Deathsurge last week.
But ones like Lusca? No, I never see anyone fight her due to being far too difficult for no reward outside of a badge.
< Only read the first page, so be gentle!
I like the GM's spawning more often. To be honest, I would like to see them spawn *more* often. At the same time, though, I would like to see them *much* more difficult. They're GIANT MONSTERS. They're the size of A SMALL BUILDING. An average Kin, and Psi/Mental Blaster can duo basically any GM outside of Lusca, who doesn't really count, with the tentacles. They shouldn't be that easy. That said, the reward should go up a bit, too. I like the random recipe drop idea, as well as the multiple badges idea.
Just can the Deadly Apocolypse (Banners?) idea now... Seriously... I couldn't even get a decent team for it DURING HALLOWEEN. We need MOAR ZMOBIES though!
The GMs that do get taken down regularly are because they are required for accolades: Eochai, Jack in Irons, Deathsurge, and Ghost of Scrapyard.
With the introduction of side switching there has been a little more interest in taking down other monsters as badgers are looking to get them all. But most of the badgers seem to be heroes that went to the Rogue Isles and not villains traveling to Paragon. So monsters like Lusca are still lonely.

There are two sides to the coin. If you make GM spawns more eventish then you get a group of people that complain about not being able to run the missions they want to run because all the mobs have been replaced. I get that. I do not side with that opinion.
I became a monster lover the first time I "took down" the kraken. "Took down" because we had a level 40 there to handle most of it. Before auto scaling. It was such an impressive thing I would later return and say, he looks smaller. Similarly back in the good old days I remember encountering a Lost boss in woods and complaining about being eaten by a purple people eater. But that's beside the point.
Today I find GM's sitting about doing little more than anything. It would be nice to see them a bit more active or at the very least in character. Adamastor for instance, my second great GM encounter, hides in the dirt until an unwitting traveller walks to near. That is fine but afterwards he just stands. As travellers to DA are usually there and gone in a heart beat you never see him spawn quite like that, he simply stands around. The eo and Jack monsters are better examples of what could be. Those events are much more theatrical. Zone revamps would be required to make the current GMs more exciting and dramatic. Increaseing badges and merit rewards would also help. In the beginning when monster hunting was new and exciting they never stood long enough to suffer like this. Now it's a bit old hat and done. GMs are considerable foes having one spawn should make people want to take them down.
All that said we should be careful not to create another paladin.
Roxy On DA...Finally!
Everyone run away! Adamastor is doing... nothing!
Everyone run away! Babbage is .... Minding his own business!
You know I almost feel bad when I defeat them, it's not like they were hurting anybody :/
Bringing the destructible environments and items of Mayhem Missions into re-spawnable in-world details might entice the monsters to actually break something.
Monsters need to Rampage, they need to be chasing civilians and all up in the players faces. It just gets old too fast when they stand around waiting for you to come to them. Lusca needs to be pulling people off the docks, swarming ships or even trying to pull herself up on land. We need swarms of Clockworks tearing parts of the city apart to build more of themselves and attacking everything that gets close!
Monsters and/or swarm events need to be fun and fully in your face like the Zombies or Rikti. Merits should flow from these events to keep up participation!
I would love to see the GM content given the epic treatment it deserves.

Agreed with everyone. Also, what say you to giving a badge for defeating the complete Paladin?
(Badge Title Pending)-While your efforts to prevent the Clockwork from completing their Paladin were unsuccessful, your vigilance ensured that the mayhem was kept to a minimum.

Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
