Dating and Immortality in COH

Well I don't know how old Manticore is in 1986, I haven't read that far yet or it doesn't say, but even if he is 18 that would make him 42 today, well the devs better think of something "special to happen to manticore" for his age to slow or stop. Nobody wants to see an old guy in spandex with an adult diaper on. :P Or maybe they don't plan on anything happening to him except he get Sister Psyche preggers and there is a new generation of a manticore.

So apparently people inside power armor works just like food that's been preserved in a can?

They look pretty good for men who are half a century old.
Gah, you say that like 50 is one-foot-in-the-grave territory! I'm 43 and I'm pretty sure I'm not dead yet!

Nothing special needs to happen to Manticore. He's a natural origin hero, and natural origin heroes and villains can be nearly a hundred years with grey hair, wrinkles, and a shortened stature and still kick endless butt.

I think it had something to do with Positron being in some sort of energy state inside the armor.

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)

Batman is 40ish so I don't see how there is a problem with Manticore being 50ish...

Madame Danger AKA Maria Jenkins.
From her in-game info:
Quote:
In the early days of the Statesman's costumed career, he worked with a woman called Madame Danger. Maria Jenkins, as she called in her other identity, was his closest friend and confidant for many years. Slowly her powers began to fade with time but she was aging quite slowly. When she met Statesman in the 1930's she appeared to be in her mid twenties. Although she is retired, Maria certainly does not look over a hundred years of age. Maria has been out of the limelight for some time, but was one of the first to realize that Statesman was missing. This frightening conclusion has caused her to become more actively involved in things.

not a bad find, Ironblade.

I was going to say Lady Grey, but Marcus, though usually noble of spirit, might not measure up to her Victorian aristocracy.

I'm thinking more and more that this question of Stateman's potential partner might just fall into the realm of Dark_Respite.

I don't know where I first heard it, but I want to say that originally "Madame Danger" was going to be Maiden Justice aka Statesman's wife.

Certainly her appearance in Unai's thread-- where she's such a well beloved figure that Azuria's spell can use that admiration to create an Eternal Flame-- tends to suggest a more public heroic career than her bio suggests.

Maria Jenkins WAS originally Maiden Justice...Web Arachnos or Freedom Phalanx and other sources stated it was Monica Richter and so they went back and edited Maria Jenkins' information.

As I understand it, when Maria was Maiden Justice, maiden justice wasn't Marcus' wife. Supposedly the retcon is why tyrant and dominatrix's relation is so creepy.

Well, in game, he's just a bald head. No real indication of age.

And who knows exactly what happened to him when he was revived (and thus "healed" of his inability to stop emitting anti-matter) by Dark Watcher.

That's hardly uncommon, young man.

It's threads like this that terrify Sean Fish. I don't know if we'll ever see another shot from the canon at this rate.

I think it would be cool if Manticore and Sister Psyche had children. Who is Sean Fish?

Also I didn't mean to make it sound that 40 and 50 year olds were ancient I just meant when Manticore gets really old like in his 70's or 80's or 90's, nobody wants him to fall and break his hip.

Sir, I don't mean to alarm you...but most mortals in the super hero game don't live that long.

I think the big issue is compatability as the OP eluded to with this quote:

Quote:
I'm thinking that an 18 year old fresh out of high school would probably not fit the bill ...
Marcus Cole was born before the turn of the 20th century and experienced first hand things that a mortal female, of any age, in 2010 has only seen glimpses of during classes they took in High School or College. His tastes in everything from music to entertainment would be flavored by the fact he'd lived through the days when motion pictures had no sound and were filmed in black and white. He'd listened to everything in the way of music from Big Bands to Jazz to Blues to Rock and Roll. He was a young man when there was no such thing a "Woman's Lib" so what exactly are his views on women as his equal? Let's assume that he has spent at least some time studying and learning over more than a century so his knowledge base is vastly superior to anyone who has had only a few decades to enhance their intelligence. Sheer physical attraction aside what mortal woman has the inteligence and range of interests to keep a relationship going with him once the overwelming passion settles?

Then of course there is the issue of mortality? Much like the Highlander if Statesman has fallen in love with mortals in the past how many times does a person watch the woman they love age and die before the pain becomes too great and they simply stop trying? He'd almost have to find another immortal to provide some sense of stability.

Eh...age is a sticky thing in comics. In fact, it, alongside superpowers, is one of the most decidedly different things than reality. How does superman resist gravity to fly? It's a comic, they do that. How is Batman still 40ish after over 70 years? It's a comic, people do that. The only time age comes into play is as a plot device, and is limited to a character-by-character basis. Hence why teenage heroes grow into adulthood and fight alongside the still-middle aged mentors.
Since this game bases much upon comic book workings, I'm not surprised to see the age issue get wonky...so long as heroes stay fit and active despite real life passage of time, this will always be the case.

I initially read the thread title as "Dating and Immorality in COH", and my immediate thought was "well, there's plenty of both..."

On the topic at hand - this has an interesting application to Kheldians. A Kheldian's host is not immortal, but the alien is, and the two together are more or less of one mind. The mortal host may not mind pledging "until death do us part", but the Kheld may have done so countless times and be less than enthusiastic about loving and losing once again. And what about when two Khelds who have been lovers meet again, but lifetimes later and in different hosts? Hilarious levels of awkwardness might ensue.

As for Marcus Cole: to me, he has always seemed to be the signature character with the greatest disconnect from humanity, and that's saying something when the roster also includes a fish and two dead women. He has no less than three twisted mirror images of himself to remind him what would happen if he ever deviates from his moral code, and several square miles of blasted city to remind him what happens when he forgets his own strength. Under those conditions, it's probably best if he doesn't form strong emotional connections with any one individual at the expense of his broader sense of duty to humanity.

In other words Statesman should date everyone.
