Veteran Catch Up Systems

So every few years everyone gets all the rewards and people who started the day before roll over are earning the same as the people who have been in game since preorder of CoH?

So...how would it be a veteran reward program at that point?

Your logic fails. If people are able to fork over a few extra bucks right now to get Vet Rewards ahead of time, then there is no incentive for them to stay and keep the account active.

Veteran Rewards are fine as they are.

Option two does not involve paying more money. Each is a separate system I am purposing.

If a person who has been with the game for 12 years, has completed first the entire 1st and 2nd Tier vet rewards. A new person joins City of Heroes.

While he gets the first 3 months of Tier 1, 2, and 3 at this point, they do not have the rest of the tier 1 and 2 vet rewards. So only the veterans would have the entire tier. So when Year 18 comes along and some one joins, they would have 6 years till the get the entire tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 tier rewards.

Its just an idea, and I think this one in particular would be a great idea, as it would make the 3 month mark eventually have a free booster pack just for playing for no additional work than what they are doing already.

Yeah, it might not be a veteran system any more past 6-11.75 years of play. But the amount of content and free stuff provided could be a great incentive to have new players stick around, as they would get a lot of new material. Perhaps this is not a good idea, which I am fine with, but I look forward to the new booster packs to come instead.

Okay, this is confusing me even more. I feel you keep coming back to option #2 here, but I am not getting it.

We have a system where every 3 months of active account, you get a reward. Doesn't matter when you started. Always the same.

This tier system looks overly complicated for some boxing shorts or an unreliable pet that dies in 0.5 sec each combat.

Could you please elaborate what is keeping players at 11.75 years? In other words, would such a system keep incenting players to stay that long in comparison to new content like S/TFs, ATs, powersets, etc.?

Yeah sorry 11.75 years was incorrect. Sorry for the confusion. It should be 6 years.

I'm amazed this tread has made it to over 100 + replies

I just started a year and 3 months ago and LOOK FORWARD to getting my vet rewards when it's time . Yes I'd like to have the shoulder cape , boxing glove etc but it will come in due time , nothing wrong with waiting . The GAME ITSELF and the people I team up with KEEPS ME COMING BACK day in a day out , the VET rewards are just a nice touch in IMO .

i seriously think you have confused your self M_C_M. vet rewards are not used to keep players playing or to intice new players to join. it is the game itself that does that. there is no reason to add any other "tiers" of rewards. the only thing that needs to happen is to relook at the rewards and change out the costume rewards for something else or give all players access to some sort of generic costume pieces of the vet rewards.

Well I am fine with whatever you all want. I thought I would try and spin a few ideas here, and it seems among the people calm enough to address the OP not just the title, that these are probably a no-go.

Thanks for the info and feedback.

To clarify my earlier point, which I crammed in at the last minute of my previous post:

The problem being addressed here is that new players feel slighted because veteran players have stuff they don't, correct?

Your "solution" is to add another tier of veteran rewards starting approximately now.

Fast forward 2 years.

Now there are 8 year tier 1 veterans AND 2 year tier 2 veterans.

That means a player joining 2 years from now will have even MORE stuff to complain about not having. Instead of solving the problem, you have compounded it.

I read your OP, and to be perfectly blunt about it, I found it asinine.

Your "Pay to catch up" idea is BUYING VETERAN REWARDS, but you put a different spin on it so it doesn't sound like that's what it is. But if you strip away the marketing jargon you have: Pay money, get your next reward now instead of 3 months from now. How does that not meet the definition of buying vet rewards?

I explained the problem with the second tier of vet rewards in this post. All it will do is give new players who join later on even more stuff to complain that they don't get.

In reading your OP again, I have to say it REALLY sounds like you're trying to justify the entitlement issues of the "WANT IT NAO!!" crowd.

They weren't here, so they haven't earned the rewards they are clamoring for. If they stick around they will earn them at the same rate as everyone else.

No one gets a second tier of rewards to soothe the sting of not getting their way, and no one can pay to get their stuff faster. It's fair, it's balanced, and it SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED!

First idea is terrible, but second idea is rather good. It would keep the vet rewards coming for everybody, but make the whole business less daunting to newbies.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

No, it wouldn't.

You'd just wind up with another group of rewards that they'd still never get, eventually, and then you have to start it all over again when other people start yelling about both reward types, which means a third tier, and so on.

I don't really like this idea much; Veteran rewards are to show how long you've been playing the game. I can see maybe buying the "Rewards" themselves and not the badges but even still thats iffy.

Nope, still without merit as it causes double the work for the developers. Vet rewards are scheduled to at least 96 months (I'll be getting that in 2013). So the developers would have to start making a second set of rewards for no other purpose than to be redundant with the current Veteran Rewards. After a certain amount of time, we would hear yet another group complaining that they are not getting the same rewards.

To top everything off, we already get new costume options and additional content as a part of our subscription: They are called "Issues". We just got one in April, and we will get another, even if we don't buy Going Rogue. Issue 18 will provide free content, just like Issue 6 provided free stuff even if the player didn't buy CoV. What will that content be? The developers are keeping quiet, but I'm sure that it will be there.

You're still not understanding what Veteran Rewards are and how they work. They are for keeping an account active over a given amount of time. If you want the rewards, then keep your account active and you'll get them.

1. No.
2. No.
3. Hell no.

You want to create a new revenue stream, that's fine. You do seem to forget however, that the veteran reward system already does just that. It tries to tempt into eople keeping their accounts running for a month or few months instead of cancelling during breaks from the game. I know I do just that, and I'm far from the only one.

It's actually half Guinness and half coffee. I like to be wide awake and alert when I'm drunk and driving home from the bar. And before anyone complains about me driving drunk ask yourselves why the hell would they give a squirrel a drivers liscence in the first place.

Because they're nuts, obviously.
