What? Okay so you're still focused on the travel power reward huh? The following shows that there are options besides vet rewards or taking dedicated powers:

Real money options:
  • Mini-booster: Temporary 30 Day Jetpack $5, 30 real days unlimited flight power on all characters on the account.
  • Super Booster IV: Martial Arts grants Ninja Run, level 4 onward on all characters.
  • Good Vs Evil in-game pack (or if the account doesn't have it, the full GvE edition): Pocket D Teleport and Jump Jet (though that is only 30 seconds at a time.)

30 real days temp powers:
  • Christmas Event (for candy canes) or Holiday cheer (random): 30 real days Jingle Jet unlimited flight power.

30 minute Temp powers:
  • Siren's Call: you can buy Flight, Teleport, or Super Leap from the Siren's Call mercenaries if your faction is winning the zone.

Non-consecutive lasting temp powers:
  • Level 1 onward, park your character in either Firebase Zulu (or other Shadow Shard) or Grandville for a max 30 minute (renewable) Jetpack. Get the Commuter or Pilot day job badges to refuel at any train station or Arachnos flier as well.
  • Level 1 onward go to Firebase Zulu or Grandville and purchase a Jetpack for 10,000 Inf.
  • Level 5-9 (50-50 chance at level 10), or with help do the Atlas Park Safeguard or Mayhem mission: Reward is a 2 hour Jetpack. (Can get once per character.)
  • Level 11-14 (50-50 chance at level 10 or 15), or with help do the Kings Row Safeguard or Mayhem mission: Reward is a 2 hour Jump Jet. (Can get once per character.)
  • Level 15-19 Villains - Steal a Goldbricker's Rocket Pack: 90 minutes of flight.
  • Level 20-24 Villains - Sky Raider Flight Pack 60 minutes of flight. (You can flash back to get this multiple times.)
  • Level 25 onward for both sides: Ouroborus Portal

Introduced with Issue 17:
  • The second of the new Positron's TFs has a Jet Pack as well.

All these options are available to all players.

As for other temp powers, see this list:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Temp_Powers

The options are there, you just have to see them.

Class dismissed unless you can show how the vet rewards City Traveller out-powers the above available alternatives.

As you can see there are multiple options for the most sought after perk in the Vet Rewards system. In fact several of them actually exceeds City Traveller's bonus by not requiring you to have a travel power at all if you don't want it.

To the original poster: Quit whining. If you subscribe long enough, you will get the same rewards for the same subscription length. In this the Veteran Rewards are 100% fair to everyone.

Just rename the badges to "I'm an idiot with too much money" for each one.

Then the rest of us can just point and laugh at them.
I liked someone else's idea. Sure allow them to buy the vet reward perks but they would have to buy each one in chronological order, and the money spent wouldn't count toward their subscription fee nor would they get the badges.

So if some impatient clown with too much money in his wallet wants to buy the 60 month reward he has to buy the 3 month rewards first, then the 6 month rewards, then the 9, 12, 15, etc until he has paid for everything prior to the 60 month reward.

That was pretty much what i meant with equal cost

OK. I wasn't sure if you were thinking of preventing people from cherry-picking only the rewards they liked.

Honestly, at this point I'd rather see a Necrothread than a thread like this--an old thread under the guise of a new one. Especially after Ultimo's latest rant. Anyway, as others have said here, I'm cool with new players catching up with vet rewards if they pay $12 per month towards each reward (in the proper order). So I agree largely w/ Forbin and Sapphic_Neko.

I don't have a problem with people paying $12 a month for nothing more than the Vet rewards. NCSoft would get their money and when they find out that they get nothing other than a couple badges when they hit the real vet date, they will cry and leave.

Just for clarification, I'm only repeating what another poster suggested in a similar thread. I think it was Steampunkette, but if I'm wrong I apologize to the original creator.

Quite so, all credit due to them as well. And, I'm sure I've posted a similar opinion myself as well in previous posts on previous threads.

TBH someone crying and leaving doesn't do anyone any good whatsoever - well, other than whatever sadistic shadenfreude some people may feel.

It certainly doesn't do the game any good, unless the leavers are the sort of people who grief others and cause them (the griefed) to leave.

I rarely understand ideas being shot down in just the /unsigned manner this has been (by many). If an idea is bad point out why. If it is bad overall but has some merit then does it hurt to say so, or explore variations? I'm pretty sure that the OP didn't post just to see if they could annoy other posters...

The reason this idea is being dismissed largely with "/unsigned" is because it isn't a new idea. It's been suggested before--recently. I suppose people could say "/unsigned...see my previous post in the old thread", but that's a lot of effort for what is, in effect, a necropost. I do agree a certain level of civility is to be expected even if you are frustrated, (that's why JRanger was banned--his long responses to the same suggestions got shorter every time they came up again, until he eventually started saying "no" to everything), but the explanations for why this idea (in the form suggested by the OP) is not optimal have already been presented, debated and discussed. I think it's perfectly okay once that has been done to just recap by saying /agree or /disagree. But that's just my opinion.

Simply put, anyone that will leave if they can't get the Vet rewards before they are due will leave when they find out they wont get anything free later. Someone that is driven away by such a minor thing isn't going to stay anyway. It's better for NCSoft to get their money before they leave.

If you are unaware of it, this happens to be one of the very few suggestions that the devs have come right out and told us will never happen.

People don't play games for vet rewards, well at least not sane people. This wouldn't make any new people play longer only their like of the game can do that.

To be fair JRanger wasn't banned until after the incident where He who shall not be named and KittyKrusader went on that childish rampage and went thru every thread they could find over the weekend and filed petitions on each and every single post made by anyone that disagreed with whatever the original OP was suggesting.

Those two pissed off Ex Libris and the mods so much that they got themselves banned and the entire Suggestions and Ideas forum moved down to the For Fun section as punishment.

That's definitely a part of the story I hadn't heard before. Odd that a steady stream of "no" wasn't enough to do the trick... Thanks for the info, Forbin

I have. I have yet to see any rebuttal of what I posted above. I've been using a form of it every time the City Traveller comes up in these "suggestions". Not once has anyone disputed that there are more options than the City Traveller enables.

Because the suggestion is completely without merit. A brief glance at the Veteran Rewards FAQ shows that this was considered and rejected prior to it being enabled in game.

Quote:
Q: What do I have to do in order to receive my rewards?
A: If you have an active account*, you don’t need to do anything except log into the game. After each three-month milestone, the rewards will be added to your account(s).
Quote:
Q: Can I pay for a certain number of months into the future in order to receive my rewards now?
A: No. The rewards are for the number of months with an active paying account and this only applies to past time, not future time.
Quote:
*Active account time includes 1. the free month of game time included with the game and 2. payments by credit card or game time card. Payments by credit card or game time card only include the paid time already incurred, not future time.
If you can come up with any rebuttal to the FAQ, then present it.

That's why I don't understand the Necro rules here. Anyplace else I go using this board system, there would be ONE thread about this, and every time someone started a new one, it would get merged with the other.

Dec out.

*Before I start my rant, I want to make it clear that I'm not accusing the OP of THIS thread in particular, I'm going to speak in generalities*

I think that if most of the commonly repeated suggestions were handled in this way, it would definitely take a lot of the tension out of the community that has built up lately. My personal opinion (I have no evidence of this, just a feeling) is that there have been a lot more new threads started lately that are actually necro'd old ideas. It's getting on people's nerves, and even the nicest of forumgoers are getting irritated and hostile.

The irritation is always worse when the person who created the new thread is the same person who posted the older, poorly received thread. It's as though the poster believes that people have forgotten their reasons for disagreeing with them, and now, surely, they'll see the light. Forumgoers who remember the old thread feel insulted at the poster's complete disregard for the opinions of the community, and they're largely correct.

There reaches a certain point where you wish the OP would just admit "This whole thread is a ruse, I'm not really interested in what anyone thinks here. I have no desire to make any concessions at all to my idea, no matter how small. I'm just trying to create the impression that this issue is important by posting it over and over so that the devs will do what I want." It looks less like an intellectual discussion, and more like a kid holding up a candy bar and yelling "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" at the supermarket checkout.

So yes, if the mods automatically folded new threads with old suggestions into the original suggestion thread, I think we'd all be a lot happier, and the forums would be much more friendly (even though I'd say this community is one of the friendlier ones out there.)

On the one hand i agree that the amount of time is a coutner incentive, because it has worked that way at least for me. I came up with an idea and the idea simply wouldn't work without something in the game existing... looked through all the stuff and found it in vet rewards... that vet reward was I think 3 to 6 months away at the time and that just annoyed me.

On the other hand... the Veteran reward is meant to be a reward for sticking to the game. The problem that this game incadentally created with vet rewards is that they are largely aesthetic or are just QoL items that while nice aren't necessary... and that is what a lot of the game's players actually want as regular content. And some vet rewards are complete flops to some while others are great to others... My next vet reward is the boxing set and I dn't see how or where I'll ever use it so It's a waste to me...along with the following 12 months till I get to the one i want.

There have been solutions to this suggested, like have a selection or something like that, but they people would pick all the good ones first, which i say "so?" to, but then people will start complaining when the good ones run out anyways.

I would love a solution, but I just can't see one that doesn't take away from the idea of it's for veterans that doesn't eventually just end with people whining anyways.

I've always felt that if they are going to have costume pieces as rewards then there should be a basic set available for everyone to use while the vet reward is the fancy/unique one.

Take the Samurai Armor for example. They should have given everyone a basic set and called it something like Ronin, and had the vet reward be a fancy set called Shogun or Daimyo version

Posted

This is probably why you nolonger see costume items as vet rewards, I think the devs have realised that it was kind of a mistake to do that in the first place, especially since this is a game where how you character looks is pretty dang important (and for the cynical among you, why give away for free what they can make into a superbooster and charge for).

Yes having a selection would be the solution, yes people would complain that they'd got all the ones they wanted and now there wasn't anything they were after and my response is the same as Durakken...so? They already complain now, this would just shift the complaints BUT it gives people the chance to go "well under the original system you'd still be waiting for those wings/Arachnos helmets/Whatever else but now you got them when you wanted them."

You want to make the 60 month possible for brand new players to buy?

Fine.

That'll be a one time fee of $900.00 please.

What? $900.00 is too high for just the ability to skip a prerequisite to a travel power?

Well that's what the people who HAVE that reward have paid, so it's the only way it would be fair.
