Non-Gamestop Preorder Bonuses?

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Hmmm...if the 5 unique IOs are lvl 20 DO DMG/RCH levels with a Proc Effect, they may be really nice to slot. I'll hope for Purple Proc chances, but at minimum hopefully regular proc value and worth keeping slotted

I've been offline for the past few months, so I don't know what kind of talk has been flying around here, but I'm inclined to preorder the Complete Collection GR and I just saw the announcement about Gamestop.
Does anyone have any guesses about whether they'll be doing the trendy-these-days thing where they have different offers for preordering from different stores? They've done so in the past, after all (*shines his Crab Spider helmet*), which makes me hesitant to order this one. I suspect the answer to be "nobody knows," of course, but I thought there might have been some hints while I was absent. |
The extra code is not in the box. It only comes from GameStop, so, there are no real pre-ORDER boxes that NCSoft has made (as been stated for a long time in their FAQ). If you want the extra code, it will only be from GameStop pre-ORDER.
Given the rather hastily thrown-together aspect of this deal (and for marketing timelines, this is hasty), and that no other deals are being announced at the same time, it's pretty safe to say this is the only distributor deal out there -- unless you can picture other outlets knocking down NCSoft's doors demanding their own deals. The fact that this deal is bundled together with Razer pretty much says that this is it.
Although, never say never.
BTW, the in-game bonus is 5 non-tradeable enhancements equipable only on new alts being made. They are 'Dual Aspect DOs', each providing 16.7% Dam / 16.7% Recharge (regardless of level), plus a proc of minor damage or knockdown (from levels 1-20) only. Great for levels 1-20, but by the time you hit level 21, any Dual Aspect IO will be better than these. By the time you hit level 22, two of these new enhancements in a power is equal to exactly two SOs (one damage, one recharge). Keeping these in your character past 35 is just dumb if you're looking for decent slotting.

Thanks Zombie, that makes sense.
I kind of want to preorder just for that mouse pad since I need one and it looks pretty cool, but I already preordered from plaync.

Black Pebble did say that there are no plans for more pre order programs in his post in the announcement thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...53#post2903453
I wonder how you redeem them in game, do you leave the customer creator and all 5 are in your inventory or do you redeem them like vet rewards.
I'd be stoked to have these enhancements on every new character I make after GR comes out, but I wouldn't change trade playing Dual Pistols these past couple months for it.

Hmm... the GameStop preorder page on the GR website says that "every" copy of the GR Complete Edition will have a $5 coupon for the Razer store. I'm curious whether that actually means "every" or just for copies preordered from GameStop...
Edit: Apparently, the "desktop skin" things are worth $15 themselves...
Edit2: And if you get the $5 coupon, the cheapest thing in their store is $10. And it's mouse *feet*. Designed for their expensive gaming mice. (And... mouse feet which specifically wear down faster than the rubber or plastic feet of mice in a normal price range.)

If that's the case, there's really not much point in bothering with them...

And hey, at least there is some marketing being done! The only potential negative to me is the precedent of equip binding existing.
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

You could do this. Pre-order two copies of the game. One is for you. Play with the "desktop skin," enjoy the enhancements, etc. Give the second copy of the game away, but keep the desktop skin and the pre-order code. (Yes, the pre-order code and the game code are two separate, independent codes, and the game's physical media will be worthless in two or three years, since you can download the client for free. Might as well get another player signed up for free.) Two or three years from now, sell the skin and the pre-order code on eBay for however much you bought both copies of the games for. You might have to offer them up separately. Trust me, there will be some completionist and/or collector who will buy them. Voila! You get everything you want, and long-term, you're not out one red cent.
If I were a little more seedy, I'd check into whether getting the pre-order obligates you to actually buying the game. I suspect not. If that's the case, you could simply pre-order the game, then once you get the pre-order code, cancel your order. They might charge you some kind of deposit, but that's still getting a code for less than you'd pay for the game. If they insist on shipping you the game and charging you for it, once you get it, just return it to a store (UNOPENED!) and tell them, "I'm sorry, I thought this ran on Linux" or something.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
I can honestly say this promotion is the first time I've ever heard a mouse pad referred to as a "desktop skin". When I first saw that in the announcement, I of course immediately thought they were selling access to a jpg for use as a desktop (which would also be something I'd never seen before). I thought, "On the one hand that's an interesting idea, but on the other it'd have to hugely impressive for me to even consider replacing good ol' Lara-in-action". It wasn't until I got into the discussion thread that I realized (thanks to...Aggelakkis, I think?) it was a mouse pad.
I pre-purchased the game the day the first day it was on offer. Not impressed enough with the Gamestop goodies to lay out any more cash, they're neat, and if this had been on offer originally I would've snapped it up, but I can live without them.
What's the advantage of that mouse p...sorry, desktop skin anyway? I get plenty of control from the $9-at-Target one (black, with the kanji for "love" in the middle) I have.
You mean like with Merits, Tickets, badges, freespecs, Vet Rewards, costume unlocks, emote unlocks, buffs from hundreds of sources, souvenirs, mission temp powers, and prestige?

Someone's afraid the devs will remove the privilege of being able to pull 10 enhancements off of a build during a respec.

On the other hand, I've been planning to buy the Complete Edition since the difference between the CE and the prepurchase was first announced -- $5 cheaper (net, since the CE gives one month of play) and only sacrificing a couple months of not playing DP and DS (when I had a chance to play them during beta anyway)? Plus a gamble on getting extra stuff inside? No problem for me.
