This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You report the troll - the thread ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You bait the troll - you stay in the forums and I show you how deep the thread goes.

Rorschach's Journal: Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me.

I have seen its true face.

The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown.

The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save Us!"...

...and I'll look down, and whisper, "/jranger".

The worst flame that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 9 posts old. Me and Cuppajoe were reading the forums, waiting for Sleestack to post an opinion. A couple hours went by. Sleestack didn't post. So Cuppajoe checked the log. No activity. Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing. So the other mods began to search. Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. The Forums were falling apart. The trolls started to post. Their jokes were aweful, so I went to try to light up the fire. That's when I noticed the smell. The flamers came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Cuppajoe were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out Sleestack. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms wrapped around a laptop. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

Aye, Post and you may get flamed. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and flame our trolls that they may take our posts, but they'll never take... OUR THREADS!!

"I can't do this, Sleestack."

I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be posting here.

But we are.

It's like in the great threads, Mr. Ocho. The ones that really mattered. Full of trolls and flames they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the forums go back to the way they were when so much trolling had happened?

But in the end it's only a passing thing, the trolls, even flames must pass. A new thread will come. And when the images are posted they'll shine out the clearer.

Those are the threads that stayed with you, that meant something. Even if you were too n00bish to understand why. But I think, Mr. Ocho, I do understand, I know now. Posters in those threads had lots of chances of lurking only they didn't. They kept posting. Because they were holding on to something.

"What are we holding on to, Sleestack?"

That there's some good in this forum, Mr. Ocho. And it's worth posting for.

"You post'n to me?"

also

“You call that a post? That’s not a post. This is a post”

and

“I do wish we could post longer, but I’m having an old troll for dinner”

as well as

"I took the forum's white knight and I brought him down to our level. It wasn't hard. You see, trolling, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little post!

and maybe

"Do not meddle in the affairs of the cartel, for they are subtle and quick to anger."

finally

"How shall a poster judge what to do in such times?"

"As they ever have judged," said sleestack. "Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among n00bz and smacktards, and another among posters. It is a poster's part to discern them, as much in the forums as in his own thread."

--->off topic<---

Quite possibly my favorite quote ever.

First, I never said you were "all alike." Go do your research on what I posted, in it's original form. Hopefully, you will see what is being said, how it's being said, and some context to how the POV is placed.
My post had nothing to do with Diversity, Politics, Dictatorships, Alien Crop Circles, Grassy Knolls, or shutting people up and killing off communities. It was a post, conforming to the use of memes and other quotes and pop culture references, sprinkled with our own culture's references, and was posted out of good nature and humorous intentions. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ok, I'm going to be explicitly clear here when I say I do not believe that you personally fall into the category of your typical whiny Internet Doooshcookie who won't go actually look something up out of either a lack of basic functioning or an over abundance of laziness and apathy. I do believe that you may in fact be the type to do your research and recalculate your statements above in the context of what I truly posted.

However, to save you time and because I'm your typical insomniac who is bored out of his skull but can't sleep, I'll help you out.
There. I just sped up your research.

this set's the tone we are taking a trip of apathy threw the looking glass in context of the

which leads too

that statement alone your putting people into a category segregating thoughts ideas and experiences and turning a blind eye just marking it off as "damn gamers"

this trend proceeds with each different forum visit

"Suggestions & Ideas. They're all alike."
"Probably jerkhacked and duped the rares. They're all alike."
"All he does is farm for Purples. They're all alike."

with each experience setting and tone and or topic discussed ,the world seems angst and basically that everyone is the same . "they're all alike"

and in doing so ,this spoils the overall context of the piece of describing your point of view your putting labels on people with the statement below .

see what i was saying about dictatorship ?

when voice's fall on deaf ears and are cast into segregation then there is no community except for the one.

judging people putting standards on topics pointing fingers segregation, that's all following that dictatorship manifesto.

in other words.
"there is no, I in team"

it's a very good thought provoking post actually i would recommend fleshing it out just abit and giving some thought about writing a short story and getting it published ,you have the knack.

also to the original poster sorry for the mini discussion, i blame myself ,insomnia and a rather interesting take on the human condition .

<!-- Hmmm
ok, how do I put this without getting this beautiful thread shut down...

Everything that you are quoting and saying I said is false. Why? Because it's NOT MINE!

It is the essay "The Conscience of a Hacker" also known as The Hacker Manifesto. It was written by Loyd Blankenship, under the name "The Mentor" on January 8th, 1986.

All I did was what everyone else here is doing, a modification of the original reference to put it in context of the forums.

If you are so mudchukked about this and think I'm some pinko commie dictator, then maybe you should have followed my links I hand delivered to you on a silver *&%&%&^ platter.

I guess I was wrong about what box to put you in.
Your complete and total lack of a clue has completely ruined the mood and spirit of this thread for me to such a degree, that I must post the original work here so your lazy apathetic fingers don't need to flex beyond your narrowed eye sockets.

Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager
Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"...
Damn kids. They're all alike.

But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain,
ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what
made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?
I am a hacker, enter my world...
Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of
the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...
Damn underachiever. They're all alike.

I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers explain
for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it. "No, Ms.
Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."
Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.

I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is
cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I
screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me...
Or feels threatened by me...
Or thinks I'm a smart ***...
Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...
Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.

And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through
the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is
sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is
found.
"This is it... this is where I belong..."
I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to
them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...
Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...

You bet your *** we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at
school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip
through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or
ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us will-
ing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.

This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the
beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying
for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and
you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek
after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color,
without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals.
You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us
and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is
that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like.
My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me
for.

I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual,
but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.
