*/regen?
Regen pretty much works with all scrapper attack sets.
If you haven't ever done a regen before though, I do suggest you start off with Dark Melee. Regen lacks any major defense or resistance bonus's, so you'll basically be taking every single hit that comes your way for full damage. Granted, that's not really a problem at high levels as you can easily hit 37~38hp per second base regen... and 151 hp per second regeneration with 2200 hit points with Dual Pain and Instant Healing... and that's just on SO's with no accolades.
Dark Melee's early self-heal (Siphon Life @ level 8) can take the edge off of a set that mostly relies on click heals and buffs.
Agree with Katana or Broad Sword for the reason given. I'd say Katana since it's numerically superior in almost every way, but only slightly, so if you prefer the SMASH of Broad Sword, go for it.

Sword as mentioned. Very good pairing.
DM is good too, but the swords protect you against everyone attacking you, whereas DM only protects against one (more if you take touch of fear and alternate targets).
The def from DA/Parry also works better against higher level enemies than you because the debuffs of DM won't affect them as much and it is also worth noting that you need to stack the tohit debuffs 3 times to equal a single Parry in terms of protection (assuming melee damage and again not including touch of fear with is double the strength of the normal dark attacks).
Not wanting to disagree with the recommendations for weapons but Regen is a very clicky set and will force a lot of redraw. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

I vote katana as well. The animations of BS are a bit longer, and if you need a quick click, you just might not get that chance.
Plus you start off very solid, and continue to be solid forever. it's a very nice set.

I say Katana, also. It was my first 50 and ive had him for 5 years now.
I've got a lvl 50 claws/regen, and it's a load of fun to play as. So for that reason alone, I suggest rolling a claws/regen just for the fun factor.

I have 2 Regens.
One is Claws/Regen, that's my main character and has been for 4+ years. *I* have ridiculous survivability with him, but it's largely because I've been playing him for so long that I know exactly what he can and can't handle and when to hit my heals.
My other is Fire/Regen, he's shaping up to be a better character overall than my Claws/Regen, but he's only level 42 so far.
For a FIRST regen, I kinda concur with others here. The sword sets (Katana and Broadsword) make good choices due to the ease of getting defense through Parry/DA.

Screw ease of use! Join the claws/regen society and throw yourself in at the deep end In all seriousness though, if I hadn't chosen a claws/regen as my first toon and knew as much about the game years ago as I know now, I probably would have gone with BS/regen. I've got a BS/WP scrapper that is currently at lvl 42, and I've got parry on auto because it's so useful for survival. I'm sure I have a BS/regen at about lvl 26 who I started two or three years ago, and from what I remember he was a beast to play as even with DOs.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

either of the swords is great, +def for the win.
My first 50 was my kat/regen, tremendously fun to play.

i recently made a dual blade/regen and hes lvl 21 atm and so far i been enjoying him immensly

I too just started my 1st /Regen- and I decided to do an unusual 1: Elec/Regen. I'm finding the sleeps and KD in Elec are helping a lot with mitigation. I just hit 22 and with newly slotted 25 generic IOs I am steamrolling through things already. The build I'm planning is a mix of Max HP and almost-perma Dull Pain (I'm about 10 seconds off).

I'll add a vote for katana. I made a BS/regen and I'll never play another BS anything again. The attacks are much much slower. In teams maybe half my headsplitters and disembowels ate totally wasted because someone else kills the guy first. And solo, it feels like I'm waiting before I can take my next turn. Katana is smooth.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

The accolades and perma-DP(hasten+55% rech) (plus one +hp set bonus from anywhere) = hp cap. If you're going for +hp set bonuses... don't. It's just silly.

It's not totally silly, just...alternative. Nothing wrong with slotting some cheap +hp while you're working on accolades and perma-ing DP.
I see it like how a lot of people skip TOs and go straight to DOs, SOs or IOs to save a little money. Doesn't mean people are wrong to actually use TOs.
You definitely want to dump them as soon as you get perma DP and accolades. I mean come on, no one uses TOs at 50.

I've got the following level 50 scrappers:
Kat/Regen
MA/Regen
Claws/Regen
Broadsword/Regen
Elec/Regen
And a DM/Regen sitting at 46(near 47).
From my many many MANY hours on regen, I'd recommend either claws, broadsword or katana. Broadsword and katana are probably the easiest to play from 1-50. Claws is very fast too (that's my main) and you tend to go through missions in a matter of minutes with the quick attacks.
That's why I love Wuffles, aside from the fact he copied one of my characters...

hey all -
my only 50 scrapper is an ma/sr (softcapped. i adore her.), and i don't have a /regen toon, period.
i wanna try the set, and i'm wondering... what would be good to pair with it?
