It seems clear that 3rd party programs/services (like the ATI hotkey poller) can cause this issue. Has anyone tried to see if closing other 3rd party programs/services can also help get rid of the problem?

It might be worth trying to turn off pretty much any other programs running at the time, including browsers, media players, IM clients, antivirus programs, automatic updaters, quick launchers ... (pretty much anything that puts itself in your system tray) and see if that makes any difference.

If nothing else, it could help ruling out some potential causes.
i have a nvidia 9400 and it worked fine in test, but i can't play at all now, even with everything turned down to min. wierd. maybe just the overload of players

Thanks,
Did that last night. Attached the Game Advisor output. No response, so I did it again Today. Still not getting responses. I had assumed that it was because the team was flooded with requests since I17 is clearly causeing lots of problems for lots of people, but then one of the devs says he heard there were only a handfull of requests submitted.

The point of submitting that the tech support is so they may be able to find a common denominator that could help diagnosing the problem. It may take them some time to gather enough info to provide a solution. Sending a 2nd one of the same system isn't going to help them narrow the search for the cause.

Have patience and have you tried what was suggested by red names (Tex or GPU) in one of the other dozen "input lag" threads started in the last 3 days?

Also the sticky labeled "Players experiencing issues related to Graphics cards" may contain a helpful suggestion or two.

Are you sure you turned *all* the graphic settings down? I'm on a Nvidia 8600 and I moved my "Max Particles" slider down to about 1/3 (17797 particles), and that fixed the whole problem.

No other graphic setting made any difference at all. Just that setting. After I'd done it, I went back and reset all the other settings to where I'd had them before. Now I'm playing in Ultra Mode without any slowing, even in very full zones. My character's image is slightly pixelated sometimes, though, so if pixilation bothers you then maybe it's not a very good idea.

Hello all, forum newbie here but what seems to work for me is to unplug my keyboard while in game then plug it back in. After that I close the game and completely turn my comp off, then restart it. Every single time I do that the lag problem is gone. I'm thinking it has less to do with the unplugging of thekeyboard and more to so with turning the comp on and off. I diabled the ATI hotkey service and that worked, but I also had to restart my comp to make it take affect. Then the game work just fine, no lag. I logged off, came back to play later and the lag was back. So I unplugged the keyboard powered the comp of then back on and relogged and the game played just fine. For me 100% of the time when I log into the game without turning off the comp first I get the lag, but soon as i unplug the keyboard and restart game works just fine. I guess I will have to try it with just powering off and on the comp to see if that works. Hope this may help.

...umm, at the risk of flagellating a deceased equine here... I used the fix in post #10 in this thread, from moderator 8, and while my controls still feel a little odd, the crazy delay is gone and I can finally play...
IF Helps
Great
Else
Sorry

Tried running the game in Windowed mode and it worked. Unfortunetly had to set the graphics to minimum...

Why Windowed mode works and regular does not? I have no idea.

Good luck all I have nearly 2 days to catch ip on, cya all in game
Did this correction a few days ago and (once I turned down my graphics to the very lowest setting) the lag seems to be better, there is still a delay of about 2 seconds. The thing is that when I log in the first toon its like I never made any adjustments.
When I log a second toon it seems to be better and I can play normally however in some missions the super duper lag comes back...
At that point I just turn the game off.
I will keep watching thread hoping for a perm fix

Count me as another person with this problem. Windows xp SP3, GeForce 7600 GS. I'd left the game back when STO launched, but returned for I17. Now I've got hideous chat lag and the same movement issue. If I depress a movement key for very long it seems to overwhelm the game with that command and I move in that direction (jumping included) for an extended period even after I release the key. CoH is also running at 100% on the CPU which I'm pretty sure it didn't used to do.

Interestingly the problem seems to come and go. I'll have it for a few minutes then it'll be ok for a few. Then it starts again. However the CPU still showes at 100% even during the ok times.

I"m beginning to regret returning. The game is unplayable for me. Hopefully they get this situation fixed PDQ or I might just have to un-return...

*Edit* Ok I've got MY solution. Interestingly my M$ keyboard driver included a runnning process called itype.exe the Intellitype driver app. Removing it seems to have cleared up my problem.

I was having the same problem, but based on the comment above from corridor, I tried killing the "type32.exe" process in the task manager (Win XP) since it is another process associated with MS keyboards and this seems to have fixed my problem.

When I logged in, I had the lag, but I alt+tabbed out and killed the process, and when I alt+tabbed back into the game, the lag was gone.

I unselected "Enable Hotkeys" in atitray (third-party replacement for the hippo-sized Catalyst Control Centre) which completely removed the problem, although I don't believe atitray's hotkeys are implemented with the ATI Hotkey Poller (whose service has always been disabled on my machine.) From posts elsewhere it seems pretty much anything that watches the keyboard constantly might cause this problem. However, AutoHotkey does not...

I had the same movement problems and removing ATI's hotkey poller did nothing for me. However, using that as a clue, I found that my keyboard had another hotkey program attached called Microsoft Intellitype, which allows you to custom-make hotkeys on your keyboard. Once I deleted that (couldn't find a way to temporarily disable it, so I just dumped it entirely), it's been smooth sailing. Definitely something going on conflicting with keyboards.

EDIT: **looks up** OK, guess it wasn't just me.

Dec out.

I've been plagued with the exact same problems listed in this thread since i17 came out. I don't see any hotkey programs on my computer, but I think I found my fix. Disabling the startup service called Apoint.exe seems to alleviate the movement and typing lag I've been suffering from. Took some trial and error to find it. I'm pretty militant about what services and programs I run. Because of that, I know that Apoint controls the scrolly-thing on my laptop's touchpad. Disabling it prevents me from scrolling with the keyboard's touchpad, but I can still use my mouse, so it's a small price to pay if it makes the game playable again. Also, I know for a fact that I've been running the service for a long while and it has never interfered with gameplay before i17. Strangely, although movement and typing have been restored, the cursor itself remains glitchy and occasionally invisible. Weird...

I hope this info is useful to somebody out there.

I have also been getting this problem, and something that seems to work at the moment is to use the Accessibility Options in control panel and use FilterKeys.
In the settings select Ignore quick keystrokes, then in the settings for that under RepeatKeys set No keyboard repeat, and under SlowKeys, set to 0.0 seconds. Then use the shortcut to turn the settings on before playing and off when you finish.
This works for me, while FilterKeys is switched on movement is fine. Hope this helps other people.
Of course, if you need to delete something while typing in chat you'll have to repeatedly press the backspace key or delete key, but that's a minor sacrifice to be able to play the game.

Has any new solutions been discovereD? Perhaps it's all related to hotkey programs yet I cannot (find) any 'apoint' or 'intellitype' startup processes or services. And yes, I have a Nvidia card, not an ATI one.

Edit : Found one! I turned off 'ATK Keyboard Services', rebooted, and tada! no more lag.

Could those of you experiencing this issue try the build on PTS and see if you're still having trouble there? Please let me know.

Since the patch yesterday, my wife and I are having sever "rubberbanding" when we move. Checked all of our characters on all of the servers, same situation. I went through the networking troubleshooting tut on the tech pages, still no joy. I tried running some missions in both standard maps and ae maps with the netgraph on. Each time i moved I'd get a resend and duplicate ount. I'd also see a spike of yellow on the graph. At one point, each time I tried to attack, there would be a lag spike of yellow on the graph. I've checked everything on my end that I possibly can. My settings haven't change in over two weeks (since i17) so nothing should be any different than before. Any help here would be great.

Is this happening on PTS as well?

If by PTS you mean the test server, then yes, I'm still experiencing lag on the test server: animations not playing, NPC's vanishing and reappearing, etc.

Playing on iMac, in case your fix is only meant for PC's. Was playing a low level defender I created on the test server on Tuesday, logged in just a few minutes ago and ran one mission and some street sweeping.

I think I fixed my problem (at least for now). Loose connection of cabling outside and a fouled connector. Friend of mine is coming to replace the fittings tomorrow. At least I hope that fixes the problem. I switched the lines around and haven't had any since. So we'll see. Sorry for any grief I may have channeled at you guys.

Afterimage, what video card do you have in your iMac? What version of the OS are you running?

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Television,

My wife's system was rubberbanding enough to make it unplayable. Tried test tonight and the rubberbanding appears to be completely gone. My system had a power supply go south 2 days after i17 went live and the replacement hasn't arrived yet (ahh, gotta luv small town Saskatchewan...) however it didn't seem to have the problem in the first place.

Appreciate the work all of you do to look after issues like this!

May I ask who your ISP is? I live in West Virginia and right now something is up with the comcast/Time Warner network and seeing how it says you live in Ohio your connection hops might be the same or close to mine.

The rubber banding was quite bad and has been the last couple of days. But its not only in coh, because my connection was bad in other games and my connection would sometimes drop randomly and my modem would reset (meaning all the green lights were flashing i.e not connected)

Yep you'd be close. I live in SW Ohio so that could in fact be an issue. I used to work for TWC, so I was able to troubleshoot my own system. If you have the same issues than it may be from the hub in KY. The main nodes down there may have been hit by the flooding. Don't expect them to tell you that though . Hopefully it'll get straight in a few days. Like I said before though, mine seems fine now atm. If you have the same style modem as I do, you loose both phone and internet. So far I haven't had that happen. I have had slower than normal page transfers on the web though the last few days so it sounds like similar problems. TWC is my ISP btw, and comcast has been known to jockey extra lines off of them, so makes since.
