Whip for future powerset?

Since Demon Summoning is introducing Whip to COH. Think we may see a Whip Set in the future? I know a lot of people want Whip for Scrapper. Would be cool if you could choose the Whip damage with a Swap Ammo type of power.

Seeing how DP was taken from a MM set, I am speculating that a whip set will be introduced. It only makes sense to me. Plus, I can only hope that it will, because I love using it.

Lets just hope it doesn't take that long for the devs to made a set of it. I bet Whip/Shield would be fun.

I've been waiting for a long time for the melee powerset I want.
Whips can wait, gimme Super Strength for scrappers.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

Whip would give us lots of options with weapon customization:
Whips
Chains
Wires
Would be freaking awesome!!
And by the way, I dont think Super strenght fits on the scrappers concept, and we already got SS for Tankers and brutes, so enough of it.
Give us whips!!

Why can't we get both? It's not like getting whips would magically forever close the option of scrappers getting SS proliferated, nor would scrappers getting SS somehow stop the devs from making a whip melee set (and then giving it to all the melee ATs as seems to be their recent trend).

I personally think whips would be cool. It's also one of the relatively few pseudo-ranged sets that melee ATs *might* actually get at some point, since said range would be so short. There would definitely be some interesting possibilities there I think.

Time.

According to Castle the amount of time it took to just animate one whip attack, one single attack, was equivelent to the amount of time it would take to animate another 18 to 27 different separate powers (2-3 entire Tier-9 power sets). Synapse later verified that the task of animating whips as used by demon summoners was best described as monumental.

This isn't saying that the devs won't do another 5 or 6 powers to round out a full Tier-9 set, or that the existing animations will not appear in a Patron / Epic power set from Desmonda herself. This is saying that it won't be happening anytime soon, and probably isn't high on the developers list of priorities.

Maybe they want to get that amount of time used for that cool whip animations so more powersets can have them.
Now that is done, they can make some more tweaks and make a whole powerset. Would be a pity if they dont.
Also, I want SS for scrappers, yes, the more powers we get proliferated the better, but I want whips NOW because is something new and different.

I'm perfectly fine with Castle, BaB's, and the rest of them to strike out eating, sleeping, and freedom to work on a scrapper whip set AND a scrapper SS set.

Unlikely. The 3 attacks that we have now for MM's took up far too much time in terms of development and, while we could likely reduce that somewhat now that we know what we are doing, it would also require 3-4 more animations to be made.

So, while I'm not saying "Never" the odds are against it.

Well will Dominatrix be able to use her whip with the new animations?

And yay! First post after a redname. .. Sorry had to be said.

Really, how many ways can you swing a whip. That would be like making a new set using pistols and trying to find 9 different ways to stand there and pull the trigger.

Oh wait. Totally different thing, sorry.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Well, one would have to be wrapping the whip around an enemy and dragging them towards you. Sort of like reverse knockback. I can't turn up a clip at the moment, but pretty much every tv and movie hero who has ever wielded a whip has used it to pull someone towards them. Or does that only work with pretty women?

Maybe just combine it with pre-existing animations/powers and make something people can enjoy/get into?

No no. That's a different thing. That's the result of swinging the whip, not the way you swing it.

Technically, yes, I know that the reaction is due to subtle motions of the hand or wrist, but it's too subtle to be seen within the bounds of the animation engine.

Besides, with our mitten hands it would likely make that more difficult to make the distinction of the movements without over-exaggerating to the point of being a campy look.

While we're at the subject, would it be possible to give me super-dancerific gun-fu on my mastermind as well? As alternate animations of course.

After all the time diligently sticking with my pistols I feel a little less endowed with all these yahoo corrs showing off what was MY set to begin with. Posers.

*mumbles* I could be a pretty dancer too if I wasn't busy commanding an entire army...

Only if I can do this. Oohhh, wait, idea! Dual wield whip/pistol!

Sounds like a new Epic power set then...

Yep, alternate animation. I'd hate to see some of those silly long dance steps on my thugs mm.

As much as I dig the fire whip, I could stand not to see a melee set out of it right away. You'd have to have a crazy knifewhip or elemental or something to make it pop and justify the damage. I'm fine with them leaving this where it is now for sometime when Castle and BABs have nothing to do.

Hey Castle? Do you call your minions in the powers group your pawns? Cuz that would be awesome.

I think it might be possible to do this with existing power effects, but it would be tricky, and have some serious downsides. It would have to:
Be a 1-degree cone,
Impose an immobilize (without knockback/repel resistance) on the target,
Create an invisible pseudopet at the far end of the cone (putting it directly behind the target from you),
Make the pseudopet target your target with an auto Repel power,
Impose an unresistable or super-high-mag immobilize on you to keep you from moving around and screwing everything up,
Disable all of your other whip powers for the duration (or maybe all of your other clickies, since many of them would interrupt the animation).

So, even assuming it could be made to work, you're immobilizing yourself and giving up all of your click powers for several seconds to...what? Drag one target into your Hot Feet/Burn area? It doesn't really seem worth it.

It would be awfully cool to drag someone off a ledge into a lava pit or something, though.

A gimped powerset to fulfill a concept.

My theory that concept=gimped is becoming more 'n more apparent as I visit these boards.
