Whip for future powerset?

I know a lady whose favorite character in Neverwinter was a Whips weapon master. She was the master of the Trip maneuver. This news is going to make her very sad. As soon as she saw the DS trailer she told me that the whip in that video was mocking her

Rather than see a whip-only primary, I'd like to see something like spears/javelins. A longer ranged version of spines, with a DoT +psn/toxic damage set.

DoT due to bleeding from the profuse amount of puncture wounds, and poison/toxic obviously due to being able to lace the weapons with such.

Hmmmm... Castle denies rumors of an upcoming Electric Control powerset and within a couple of weeks there is an official announcement for Electric Control in I19. Now Castle says the odds are against a whip based powerset.......

Yes, however, I doubt an 'actual' Whip Melee set is in the works. Just like we don't have a Laser Blast set, I doubt they built more than 3 attacks for Whips.

If they did do a combo Whip/x set, it could be a Whip/Pistol set akin to Indiana Jones or somesuch. Use the 3 whip attacks and some of the pre-existing pistol attack animations from the NPCs and/or Dual Pistols. It would allow the classic 'adventurer' AT, and a less gun-fu pistol set for detectives and what not. It wouldn't be 'gimp'.

That said, I find it unlikely to happen, but as always, I always push for more (relatively) easy to make proliferations and options for players.

Looks needlessly complex to me. Why not make it a "Teleport Foe" clone? Just like how "Shield Charge" -- running into your enemies to knock them down -- is represented by a teleport, so too could "Whip Pull". I'd add a short term immob or stun or hold so it has something going for it over TP Foe.

I can see the indiana jones clones now....

Anyway if in an earlier post it mentioned using whip/pistols animations together in a set, melee and ranged in the same set would only work for dominator or a blaster secondary, in which case you would have the same 3 attacks from demon summoning been used in the secondary powerset too from dominator anyway. Which leaves just blaster, and its very unlikely they will make a single archetype powerset for anything other than dominator and mastermind.

I'm not a fan of playing Masterminds, and prob not gonna make a DS mm either, but i would love to have a whip based power set for a scrapper based toon.


Lets hope that in time it does get developed and introduced into the game, as think be fab to have that as power set for scrappers.

I'd much rather have Whip Assault for Dominators, what with the ranges already inherent and the, shall I say, concept parallelism.

I can only think of a handful of comic characters in which whip-ish weapons were used: Indian Jones, Omega Red, etc are some examples. I personally dont see whips as very tank-ish, brute-ish, scrap-ish or stalker-ish. I think they are right where they should be. I'm sure some people disagree.

Oh well, maybe in CoH2: The Wrath of Dr. Kahn....

Whips. I've wanted to get my hands on these for a while.

Couple De-buffs to Def, cause the whipping stings. Maybe an Imob/Trip/Knock down like thing, 3 levels of whipping, slow to fast and a single short range like Swipe from Claws. Perhaps a Sonic Boom at the end of the big one. Also add a Build-Up, a Multi Whip for a little DoT sting, an Arc Whip that hits 90 degrees in front and a Circle Whip as a PBAoE, just an idea. I like it though. ^_^

Just take some basic type of attacks from the already established one, Claws, Dual, Broadsward, re-work them with a whipping animation and your set really. Not many comic book characters use whips, but there aren't a lot of Claws, BroadSward, Shield or Plant users either so..... just an idea really, if the devs are reading this *wink wink*

Good to see a redname posting on this castle, but I gotta call you out on this. Sure, it may have taken you guys much longer to make the whip animations, but as far as the actual animation aesthetics go, you got your bang for your buck there. Compare the whip animations to the DP animations, where I am shooting little dots from my gun every time, just spinning differently when firing. I got pretty annoyed by those animations pretty fast. Add in the newish feature of power customization and whips animation pro's increase tenfold. Whips allow you to see what you are doing to affect the enemy and how you are doing it (to some degree.)

I can see a whips debuff, control, and assault set and would love to play any. I would also be down with a des Patron power pool set though. I would absolutely love to have the ability to wield whips on any of my toons, doms and brutes especially.

Im all for moving away from the dancy west side story animations to the flashy, makes -some- sense ones. I havent found any jets in game and I wouldnt dare say captain mako is a member of the sharks.

Well, If odds are against having a whip as a power set, what are the odds that scrappers would get access to a set that would give fire, toxic, AND -rez like the MM whip (o.O) Maybe in Kinetics
