Vanguard Stuff
It is neat, I don't use the costume a lot but I have it as an alternate costume on a few characters. I also use the weapons on several others (and the shield rocks).
I'd definitely consider the Vanguard stuff to be one of the coolest costumes in the game. I use the mouth guard individually on a ton of my characters as well.
If only we could get that awesome backpack/hip plating <3
All of my 50s (that I actually play, so excluding my Scrapper who I only made to unlock Kheldians and never touched again) have full* Vanguard outfits + the costume change emote. I use the outfit whenever I'm doing RWZ stuff, be that general teaming, mothership raids or a LGTF. Puts me in the right mood for bashing Rikti.
But I like uniforms in general; hence why I don't bother getting new costume slots for VEATs. More earnable uniforms would certainly be fun - I actually use roman outfits on said 50s too for ITFs.
*(Note that when I say 'full' I mean they have access to all the bits, not that they necessarily use all of them. My MM wears biker leather pants and a trenchcoat, so the only bit unused is the Legs, for example.)

Oh yeah, I love the costume change emote. And you know what? I was playing around in the AE costume creator and came across the Vanguard shield. I'd never noticed that before, but it's waaay cool! I need to get that for my shield scrapper!

I think it looks cool, and have the full set - but I never use it

I really enjoy the face pieces, fun to mix em with other stuff.

I've never picked up any of the Vanguard pieces (except the gloves for obvious reasons) but I love the weapons. The Vanguard Katana is my Kat/SR Scrapper's second favorite sword and I think my Ninjas MM has the Vangaurd Bow. My Claws Stalker will be getting the Vanguard Claws ASAP to finish his "modern-day assassin" costume.
I may pick up the whole costume set eventually for my Nemesis Automaton character so he can properly blend in within the War Zone.
it is cool, but there is no need for it to take long. go to your server subforum and see when they schedule a mothership raid, or if its inconvenient to you, see if you can get the leaders to do a different day once or twice for you. the merits rain down like mad during those, and its not unusual to get 3-4 hundred or more during a good raid, but check it out, and see if the process can be faster for you. if you are on liberty, they tend to be sunday at 9, but check the stickied thread for the exact time.
You're going to make me cry.

I recently saw that they made the Vanguard Broadsword and Katanas available to Dual Blades users. Something I've been wanting since the Vanguard weapons came out. So I got on my Dual blades scrapper and noticed she had 10 vanguard merits, not enough to buy either of the options.
I joined a mother-ship raid the next night and after a single raid, I had 450 merits. I got both the katana, the broadsword, the vanguard sigil and I think the shoulder pads.
Honestly if you want vanguard gear, mother-ship raids are the way to go, 3 or 4 of those things should get you the whole set.
Ohh and I love the vanguard stuff. I think it's fantastic, well done and I love that I can make my characters look exactly like many of the vanguard characters. (Though the thigh plates would be nice.)
Mostly I love the vanguard weapons. The glowy swords, sheilds, ax etc are all cool as hell. My AR blaster uses the Vanguard "Redding" rifle on 4 of her 5 costumes, and I hope they do something in a similar vain for the pistols.
So yes, vanguard love FTW.

I have a Vangaurd Colonel, Sword/Shield. I love those weapons.
Also got two other characters who use Vangaurd stuff, both being members. My Empath/Psi has full armour and the mouthguard, while my AR/Ice blaster is working on the whole set.
I love the Vanguard kit.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

As usual when you complain about this, it needs to be said that there are methods available, and because you don't choose to use them, is not the fault of the game.

I don't like Hamidon raids either. Which is one of the reasons why I like doing the STF. Why can't a similar compromise can't be done with, say, the Lady Grey TF?

Some people have computers that don't really allow them to do raids or play at times that make raiding difficult. My personal suggestion is to increase the drop rate of merits for non-raid rikti. My suggestion would be to increase it from 10% to 30%.
|
Honestly, why not? All vanguard merits get you are costume pieces, extra salvage slots and some temp powers. You can't trade them and they become worthless after you've gotten everything you want. So what's the harm in upping the drop rate?
Honestly I think 30% is great, or high, make it 50%. I mean, all it does is make it faster for people to get the vanguard stuff, unless people are going to argue those temp powers are completely imbalanced and people getting them more easily would ruin it.
That or make V-merits tradeable. My main blaster has all the vanguard kit she wants and is sitting on a pile of like 800 of those things. I'd love to give them away to people who want the costume bits but can't or don't want to do raids.

I think this is a great idea.

Ways to fix Vanguard merits:
1) Up the drop rate.
2) Give merit bonuses for the RWZ story arcs.
3) Give a merit bonus to the Lady Grey TF.
4) Severely reduce the price of the Vanguard costume parts. (IT COSTS 200 FOR PANTS PEOPLE, 100 FOR A GUN)
5) Allow characters of any level to earn merits.
6) Find some way to allow players to use unlockable costume parts at creation. Account-wide unlocks, redeemable tokens (sort of like Vet rewards), or make the unlocks recipe-based.

I like all the Vanguard Pieces...except the Hat and Face piece. That big round...whatever it is right in the middle of the face makes one resemble various species of beetles. All the rest...way cool though - several of my 50s are decked out in full (or near) sets.
There's no damn good reason for rewarding a pittance of Vanguard merits for doing the actual content versus tons for a raid that I find both incredibly boring and a pain to even attempt due to performance issues.

I get dozens of VMerits running the arcs or repeatable missions. Sometimes it takes running on enhanced difficulty settings, but it's not a matter of months of toil.
One day by doing a raid, or several days by doing more soloable content. That's about the same standard as applies to Reward Merits, AE tickets, or other forms of special drops. There's a balance there. You may not like the balance, but hyperinflating it doesn't reinforce your case.

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean your point is effectively argued by posting like they don't exist,
|
A little strange that you're apparently up on how often I speak out about this, but you don't actually know anything about my complaints.
or hyperbolically stating the amount of time it takes to get Merits by going through the content. I get dozens of VMerits running the arcs or repeatable missions. Sometimes it takes running on enhanced difficulty settings, but it's not a matter of months of toil. |
And raising the difficulty is hardly a reliable solution if I want to get more Vmerits on, say, my Empathy Defender. And, naturally, teaming usually results in fewer drops rather than more so that's not a great idea either.

That's a whole five arcs (with boosted Vmerit numbers due to the difficulty slider) to approximately equal the general minimum Vmerit rewards of a single ship raid. The difference in time costs is massive. Story arcs versus TFs for regular merits is nowhere near that bad. And to think all this is (mostly) for costume pieces, rather than rare IOs that actually affect gameplay.
My point has always been and continues to be that the choice between grinding and ship raids is illusory for the average player, and a complete no-sell for the casual player. It's not so much that I don't like ship raids so much that I hate Borea missions even more. And at least some of my proposed changes are, AFAIK, a matter of tweaking a spreadsheet.

Because it's a locked costume set at level 35, it simply doesn't exist to me.
Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!
I LOVE the Vanguard outfits.
I spent months getting the full outfit and costume change emote on one character and I'm almost halfway there in terms of having the Vanguard merits on another.
(Seriously, if you have never gotten the costume emote, consider it or ask someone to show it to you. I think it's one of the neatest costume change emotes in the game. Even if you don't want the outfit, get the emote. I think it's just THAT good.)
Anyone else really like the Vanguard gear?
Someday in the future, maybe they can offer rewards for facing other factions of enemies in the game. Maybe the PPD can grant special costume pieces for doing Radio missions or maybe the Praetorian costume pieces will be earned in a fashion similar to Vanguard stuff ...
