Crazy Salvage Mark Ups
But your so called l337 rewards are in the same class with trap of the hunters and lethargic, perplex, but the average player doesn't seem to have a problem having those drop yet they are in the same tier with the 3 i mentioned above. This is what frustrates them.

What do you think would mollify them, a dev flying over their house in a helicopter and dropping a crate of LotG 7.5's in their back yard?
Most of the "good" rewards in this game are absolutely available to anyone willing to make even a slight effort to earn them.
There is a point at which making things too available nullifies their value as rewards, and costs you more players than it placates.

anyways, this:
while the majority of player here proclaim the game isnt DYING, it isnt exactly bringing in the masses. your stance on the subject is biased. youve played this game w/o fail throught thick and thin, issue after issue. you are part of a community that has/will exist till the very end. that kinda of loyalty is nothing to make light of, and you may not know b/c i care very little for what ppl think of me and care even less about what im saying makes any sense wutsoever, but i do. I DO respec yours opinions.
your knowledge on the GAME greatly excedes my own. so forgive me, as drugs -Meth is culpret in this case (some baby-sitters get paid in gum ive heard) may have done a dirty on my logic...
but still, i USED to play too, back before WoW. i started in I3 and lasted thru to I7-8. Before i left i had convinced a good amount of ppl to make little schoolgirls, i founded the Girls of Nukem High. if you are from Triumph back then, you will remember there were a lot of us. I left the game to play wow and got bad hooked on it. i came back to CoX shortly before AE, i immediately noticed a decline in the population since id played last. I rolled toons on Freedom, b/c it had a decent population, and after coming from a high pop WoW server, i was used to lots of ppl. I convinced Icy to let me start Nukem High on Freedom, mostly because i felt triumph was dying out and i didnt want to see my girls die with it. I lasted this time about id say WotLK hit then i left again, only to come back now.
if DYING is too strong a word for you, then maybe "DECLINING" is a better choice.
most ppl that i know i play CoX still are not amazed im still playing this game, rather they amazed the game is even going still.
but wishful thinking isnt all bad.
ill play it no matter, the concept and creation, and the all around atmosphere of the game is good enough for me.
as much as think this game overall inferior to the mighty WoW it has one thing WoW dosent:
the ability to solo thru almost every aspect of the game, and i think this is reason enough for most ppl to carry on till the end.
which will come.
as do all things.
except WoW.
Whiners have already been thrown a handful of bones, in the form of merits, MA tickets and drop weighting.

Edit: Nevermind, I misread what you said. Others have already responded to what you actually said pretty much how I would like to have. That's what I get for forumizing while on the phone.

Edited because the post above just makes my whole point meaningless.
If what is posted above is true, well... good luck in life - you have a lot more to worry about than how the market works in a pretend world online.

anyways, this: while the majority of player here proclaim the game isnt DYING, it isnt exactly bringing in the masses. |
It's a niche game who's strongest appeal is to a very specific demographic (comic book fans).
We've never had broad appeal and barring some kind of seismic shift in pop culture we never will. Chasing "the masses" is a waste of time and energy.
What they can do, which is what they've been doing lately, is work at appealing more strongly to the kind of folk who are inclined to like the game.
Like broadway, CoH can be classified as a "fabulous invalid", its demise forever predicted but never forthcoming.
WoW was supposed to kill it, Warhammer was supposed to kill it, Age of Conan was supposed to kill it, LotRO was supposed to kill it, CO was supposed to kill it....etc etc etc.
Our population is relatively small by MMO standard, but it is also remarkably loyal by MMO standards. We'll keep chugging along, TYVM.
your stance on the subject is biased. youve played this game w/o fail throught thick and thin, issue after issue. |
When they screw up badly enough I vote with my feet- I took off prior to ED, came back for CoV but refused to play heroes at all until the market came along and mostly redressed the crimes wrought by ED.
I boycotted MA when Posi threw his tantrum, and I still refuse to create any arcs for it in spite of my initial enthusiasm.
Ask around, I'm anything but an uncritical booster of the game in general or subsystems that I find lacking.
I'm harshing on your mellow because the entire basis for your suggestion is garbage. You're completely uniformed about our market, ditto for WoW's AH, and so unsurprisingly your suggestion is an abject failure of an idea.
you are part of a community that has/will exist till the very end. |
I'm going to take a page from Fulmens' book and add you to the Rogue's Gallery of my ignore list. Like most of the others who reside there, you have bad ideas, state them poorly and are completely unaffected by the intrusion of reality into your Utopia of ignorance.
Enjoy the game, for as long as you can stand not having a NAO button, and the next time you're crusing the WoW AH try and pay attention to what's really going on, because it's not what you think it is.

If you want to be technical about it. It's dying in the same way you or I are dying. A "Yeah. Eventually. Not sure when. Hopefully not soon." kind of dying.

QR: this thread delivers
Untrue. The market forum regulars are some of the most passionate advocates for a Red-Blue market merge. That's about the furthest thing possible from status quo, given the devs' demonstrated reluctance to do anything about the side disparity.
|
More of the same. A red blue market merge is what we have now but bigger. Bigger is indeed better. Its especially true if you are on Redside have made a couple billion inf and found out you can't buy what you want with it because it just inst available. It isn't a change though. Its the same market, its a little more stable because there would be more participants, and orders would likely fill faster.
As a counterpoint an open outcry market by itself would help Redside out by providing a better environment for buyers and sellers to trade. Just how much is your time worth to you ? How much inf is it worth to be able walk into the market and see what people are willing to pay for your items now or how much it will cost for you to buy things now ?
You may be correct. The bracketed section of the thread could be simply interpreted as internet bullies piling on a weak target. Generally though that doesn't happen unless they are in an environment where they feel they can get away with it.
But that's all a bit loose without further context and examples. Lets take the premise: The market community is protective of the status quo, and really does not argue in good faith concerning any ideas that might upset the status quo. On the status quo side here you have people that go from not understanding the mechanic being talked about , to being experts on how wow's auction house works. You have to enjoy the parts where they talk about how auctions with a buyout price don't work. |
oh lawd, please don't quote AF's typographic dribble!
It defeats the whole point of having him on ignore.
Although, silver lining: it does remind me why I put him there in the first place.

My City Was Gone
Ah, how I've missed these threads.
Been away for a while, so it's good to see we're still on track!
But where's eryq2? I'd really love to get his take on this.
My 2 inf:
Played WoW, it was okay. The thing I disliked most (besides all the walking) was the frickin' market. "I can't place a lowball bid?!" I wondered incredulously, "WTF?!" A market where SELLERS set the price is crap; your deal-finding is at their whim and on their terms. Pah!
Although 6 pages, and countless other threads have thouroughly explicated how one might acquire their salvage (or anything, for that matter) at a non-extortionary price, HK has shown no glimmer of understanding. And all because he wants it nao...
As has been said, you can have it nao. Start with the "2", and keep hitting zero until you can't anymore. Click "Place Bid".
And if you have a hard-on for WoW, go play frickin' WoW...Escape this dying game with it's broken market while you still can!
Open the pod bay doors, Hal.
It isn't a change though. Its the same market, its a little more stable because there would be more participants, and orders would likely fill faster.

Gotcha.

So yeah, the sun is losing power and will eventually collapse.
Let's all wring our hands and worry about it, k? |
The Universe is tending towards increasing entropy, and cooling towards absolute zero. Even when the sun dies, the universe will continue, for a while.
Even if we as a species escape the solar system and settle elsewhere, the heat death of the universe will occur.
In simple terms the universe is dying.
The last question by Asimov is an interesting read on this subject:

Having had a day filled with discussion on quantum mechanics (Electron tunneling, Molecular orbitals and Heisenberg uncertainty principle), that's an interesting read.
Not sure I agree with it, but its a decent enough theory at first glance. Needs testing with more data though.

Seeing as you missed this and I must have done a horrible job of communicating the fact that I was talking about a change in the nature of the market. Let me help you out.
An intrinsic property is a property that an object or a thing has of itself, independently of other things, including its context. An extrinsic (or relational) property is a property that depends on a thing's relationship with other things. For example, mass is a physical intrinsic property of any physical object, whereas weight is an extrinsic property that varies depending on the strength of the gravitational field in which the respective object is placed. |
Now just in case its still not clear. Lets say we have a container of water. Theres a certain number of collisions between water molecules per unit time, the water has a certain weight per unit volume, and other properties dependent on the fact it is water.
If you double the amount of water in the container you get twice as many collisions between water molecules, the container weighs twice as much, it can take twice as much solute into solution. This is because there is now twice as much.
Do you get that ? Having more of something does not change its nature. Just want to make certain you actually are having your gotcha moment here.
Just to put things into a little clearer light for you. If all of a sudden everyone that played heroes switched to playing villains without a market meger would it change how transactions happened on the red market ? Or would there just be more transactions happening more often because there were more people ??
If you didn't understand before I took the trouble to lay it out for you I hope this helps. If you did understand these concepts why did you fail to apply them ?
Wow. I feel like I need to take a bath and wash off the smarm.
Re-reading your posts, it was in no way clear that you were drawing any distinction between intrinsic and extrensic changes to the market. So yes, you did do a horrible job of communicating that you were talking about a change in the nature of the market. Of course, that's assuming that you're not just shifting the goalposts of the argument so that you can pretend you won.
The neat trick is to figure out what their axe is, and present your case in such a way as to appear as a grindstone.
Thus far, the suggestions in this thread have merely attempted to simulate a rust monster.
