Sewer Teams - huh what?
Ah, I see what your problem is.
You've been reading Atlas Park Broadcast. It's full of 100% of your FDA recommended daily allowance of Vitamin Dumb.
Blaster, I can see. Damage is good since we're all fairly squishy at that point (dead things can't hurt you), but why would anyone want a lowbie tank? Low damage and a few more hit points, but they don't have any of the tools to mitigate damage yet and they're facing toxic and psi damage.
Why not take the controller or def who may be packing something like tranfusion or AM? Sounds pretty dumb to me.

At low levels, the damage scales haven't set into their final levels. a Tank isn't dealing that much less than a scrapper, and a defender not that much less than a blaster.
AP is just full of dumb.

What they said. When I run sewer teams I will take anybody. Any level, any AT, any experience. Anybody who won't is being stupid.
Actually, I'll do that at higher levels, too. I once ran a wicked awesome Hollows team with six Defenders and a Scrapper.
This is gonna sound like a rant, and it is a little bit - but I'm a little confused about something. When and why did low-level sewer team runs start becoming selective?
First noticed this shortly after Mission Architect was introduced (and non-MA teams could hardly be found). I had rolled up a new controller, hit Atlas, and saw a "Sewer Team LFM" message. Sent a /tell to the team leader. Got no response, but seconds later the team leader broacast "Sewer Team LFM - no trollers or defs". I almost replied, "But, but, I has Sands of Mu and Blackwand Staff" - but then realized I'd be begging for a sewers team, which just seemed wrong... Took a break from the game, and came back this weekend. First sewer team message I saw was "Sewer Team LFM - since its 2x XP weekend, all ATs are welcome", but I still see broadcasts for "blasters only" or "tanks and blasters." Maybe I'm wearing rose-colored glasses, but I always thought ATs were pretty much irrelevant on low-level sewer runs. Get a team of 8 and steamroll until you stop getting XP. What happened? Why are blasters and tanks seemingly favored? Or is it just my imagination? |
I saw some twit on Virtue trying to form an AP sewer team yesterday that said "No Blasters or Scrappers".
I believe that these totally clueless individuals are AE babies that returned for the 2xp weekend then discovered they couldn't get 2xp in the AE. Having no idea how to actually play the game they try to form their idea of the perfect team.
Dump people play at all levels. That is all.
"Null is as much an argument "for removing the cottage rule" as the moon being round is for buying tennis shoes." -Memphis Bill
Well, at least they didn't spend 20 minutes looking for a kin and a stone tank.
I can laugh at this since just like others have already mention. it has no point for a low sewer team to be looking into ATS. Most Sewer teams in the past always have all of the Archetypes and most where very helpful in everything.
Now that to see Sewer teams is a little rare, it is good to form them ourselves even we must don't like to be the team leader.
Wow....never, ever had this problem on Union. If a sewer team is calling, its all welcome for mash zombie bashing.
I just...yeah. Wow XD
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

To the OP the easiest solution around idiots like that is to start your own team and Broadcast "Sewer Team lfm ALL AT's welcomed".
Or use global channels, I watch/use those much more than Broadcast.
AH i see your problem....your leveling a hero.
I don't usually join sewer team. Last time I joined with my defender, the team leader invited, and looked at my power set, then kicked me. I guess sewer teams being selective is not really new.

Sounds like AE n00bs to me.

*sigh*
Dont know whats worse, the stupid team leader thinking a sewers team needs XXX AT, or the mindless blame it all on AE without evidence or proof.
Always easier to blame a nebulous group
In my experience, its normally the older vet types that demand 'perfect' teams, tanks that herd, defenders that heal.
And sewer teams really aint become selective, you (OP) just found a bad one.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
I've never had this sort of issue. Obviously anyone being selective about team members to basically street sweep is confused about what sort of game City of Heroes is. Especially at a level so low, everyone is basically equal.
If I was going to be selective about a sub-ten level team, I'd be asking for Vet years for the extra attack powers (and no, I wouldn't do this, but at least there's some sense in it).
This weekend, as usual, I am taking anyone and everyone, whatever they're playing, giving preference to nonidiotic character names if the team is filling up.
This weekend, that means a crapload of pistol blasters (I think we had 5 at one point), but I can play with any mix of powersets, as long as the players don't turn out to be twits.

The best way to get a team is to make one.

WARNING: I bold names.
I went and started checking the characters out when they make those comments just to see if you were right and unless the players started new accounts they weren't long time vets. I checked about half a dozen and none of them had accounts that were active 6 months and most weren't active 3 months.

I guess our anecdotal evidence differs. Which is why the plural of anecdote is not fact.
I also assume you're talking about the comments like 'need a tank to herd' unless the sewer selection thing is a lot more common that I've ever seen. What servers are people seeing this on?
The whole 'lets herd' thing I've only seen from older game time vets.
Certainly though complaints about people broadcasting for 'healers' etc are a lot longer than 6 months old.
I've seen it a lot on sub 50 missions, which pretty clearly rules it out from being from AEbabies PL'd to 50.
As said above, dumb players are dumb players. No need to single out one group for scorn when dumbness afflicts so many
