Addicted Badge Pets?

So, I just got my 36 month Vet reward badge and was wondering. Why doesn't it do anything, at all. I know most or all badges are mainly for bragging rights but, how am I suppose to brag about a pet that does nothing?

Developers sure do have a weird way of rewarding someone for playing this game for as much as people pay for it. About $400.00 in this game now and I get a pet reward that does nothing, umm? thank you?

I wouldn't say they don't "do" anything. I got a ticket the other day in Founders Falls for not scooping up the loaf my Rikti Monkey left on the sidewalk. They do stuff, you just have to clean it up when they're done.

Larry: Owen, what the hell did you do to my wife?
Owen: Well I don't want to say on the phone - all I can tell you is that I killed her last night.

So, it's just a costume piece then? If that is the case then why have to summon it, why not put it in the tailor shop and be able to pick and choose between all pets givin?

It's just there for fun. Even when you get the buff pets, they don't give you much so that they don't make you over-powered.

Because that would require far too much coding.

Ya, sorry... Forgot about who the team was behind development. My bad.

You are aware that many MMOs have non-combat pets, available in a multitude of ways, and they are quite often very popular? I know people who play WoW who have 50+ different non-cambat pets. And they do precisely nothing. (OK, there's one that throws iceballs that do 1 damage, but since he only targets critters, which don't attack and don't grant XP, he's still useless, combat-wise)

I've seen several posts where people ask for more non-combat pets.

They're there for fun, just like costumes, emotes, costume change emotes, the Halloween and Convention costume change powers, [Walk].... Need I go on?

One of those nutjobs right here...before I quit WoW I had over 75 non-combat pets and I went to some extreme lengths to get the rare ones...grinding for days on end in certain spots.

The worst one was 5 hour grind for three day solid in a team of three people...but by god did I finally get my pirate hat and pirate parrot at the end of it...and a nifty achievement + title when they added them in.

So you're trying to compare non-combat pets of another game that from the get go can be unlocked after a few hours and there are more then one? And I have to wait three years too get one, an only one. Crap!,.. My bad again. Guess it's money well spent for me.

The vet rewards are a token 'thank you for continuing to play this game' they're not a 'you've spent X amount of money here have something awesometastic'!

Besides atleast you GET something...some of the later rewards are a costume change token and a freespec.

And why aren't you complaining about the Greek Letters chest emblem...they're truly attrocious...almost nobody uses them and they're kind of a let down afte trenchcoats.

If it's your opinion that vet rewards ought to be "worth the money I spent" then I recommend that you quit now. With the exception of City Traveler, once you get past 48 months you can pretty much stop counting your months played. You're going to cry foul about the money you "wasted" when you get to milestones that give you nothing at all but a badge and a respec.

Save your money and quit while you're ahead.

This.

OP, you are sounding more than a bit whiny about something you were given.

Yes, it's more of a costume piece than anything else. You are moaning & groaning about the act of summoning it as if it were some great expenditure of energy. It isn't.

The money you spent on the game gave you access to the servers to play it, nothing else. Vet rewards are generally "fun" things. Some are useful to some players, some are not all that useful. Even the 48 month "Combat Pet" does very little other than follow you around.

Sheesh.

I use my non-combat pet for flavor, nothing else. My AR Blaster breaks out the Mek Man as a spotter when she feels like Sniping something. There's no point to it from a numbers point of view, the sniping OR the pet, it's just something I consider fun. I also like the idea of a domesticated Rikti Monkey as a pet, it makes me think of the pet Headcrab from Half-Life 2.

These pets are of far more use to me than, say, the Reveal power. I will never use that at all, that fog tells me where I haven't been. It's a 63-month vet reward, and it's spectacularly useless to me. But you know, I won't be complaining, because I've received a far better reward, i.e. 63 months of access to a great game. A bonus on top of that is really quite incidental.

The true *reward* for playing is easy to identify - Enjoyment. All the extra perks
(Veteran Rewards and such) are gravy as far as I'm concerned. I'd still pay my
hard earned $$$ even if my time spent online was not acknowledged.

However each their own my friend.

You're not spending money on noncombat pets. You're spending money on playing the game for years and having fun. The noncombat pet is EXTRA, and if it's an EXTRA you don't like, then here's a protip: Don't Use It.

i honestly never use the non-combat pet because it is useless, i dont complain about it because its free, but i would rather have the buff pet over this pet any day

It's no different then WoW's collectors edition pets, which also do nothing. And have to be summoned.

Yeah, the team that's busy doing things that affect game play.

Gawd, I was on a TF (Citadel I think) where some one insisted on using that at the start of EVERY defeat all. I couldn't stand it. I LIKE knowing which way still has enemies...

I use reveal to clear zones that I haven't explored yet on a certain character. That way when somebody says "Such and such just east of the so and so marker" I can actually see what area they are talking about.

Plus in some missions that are "defeat boss" I use it to find the quickest way to the final room.

Boo hoo hoo.
I would hate to see how you handle disappointment in real life, where it has an actual impact on you.

Unless he's PRISM, the worlds first sentient computer, who's currently living the belief that he's a real human until awaked to test out the merits of the plan for Renewed National Purpose, then I'd say he IS handling disappointment in real life.

Granted, it's diappointment for something really stupid, but still real life disappointment nonetheless.

I know nothing about you except this: You did not start playing this game 36 months ago in order to get this item. Ergo, you do not get to imply that your money went toward this, nor that it was wasted.
