Depressing thoughts topic: how much have you spent on CoH?
eh, we did this a while ago. Not counting any computer hardware, about $1400. That's one account approaching 5 years and a second account a bit past 2 years, plus every extra edition and pack excluding the Wedding Pack.
P.S. Not depressing at all. As a monthly average, it costs less than my phone bill, DSL bill or cable TV bill. Quite the entertainment bargain.

We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
Been playing since Jul 04, I think this is everything I bought. I've bought everything except the COV collectors and Architect boxes.
City of Heroes $40
City of Villains $40
Good vs Evil $25
City of Heroes Collectors Edition $50
New Computer in 2004 because my old couldn't keep up: $2700
64 months of paid subscription: $960 (5 months were free)
Wedding Pack $10
Valkyrie Pack $10
Cyborg Pack $10
Mac Pack $10
Science Pack $10
Magic Pack $10
Natural Pack $10
Server transfers $20
Character slots $120
Name changes $10
So over $4000 for my my own account.
I'm also paying for my mother and brother's account and until recently was paying for my husband's as well. I'm not going to add all that up since I don't remember how many months and extras I've bought for those.
This game has been worth every penny.

Almost all the people posting here are just saying they consider it money well spent. No one's really complained about you starting this thread, though a couple may have taken issue with characterizing the money spent on the game as "sunk" and "depressing." Saying that there was a similar thread several months back is hardly a stinging rebuke. (Stinging Rebuke would be an awesome name for a power.)
Lighten up a little.
This guy seems happy enough.

Not to mention the health benefits of playing coh verses drinking massive quantities of alcohol.

You can even do it at the same time!
Why so rancorous?

66 months > $960.00
CoH > $50
CoV Collectors' Edition > $80 (right?)
GvE pack > $15
Natural Pack > $10
Cyborg Pack > $10
Magic Pack > $10
Total > $1135.00
Wow. That's crazy. Then again, it breaks down to only about 57 cents a day, just under $4.00 a week. I've definitely spent waaaaaayyyyyyy more than that in arcades when I was younger, so it doesn't look that bad when you break it down.
Funny I should see this topic on the same day I tallied the amount I spend yearly on a certain should-be-legal substance I like to burn and inhale just about every time I play.
Which costs about 20 times more per month than my sub.
Now THAT'S depressing.
What would really be cool as far as health benefits go would be if someone somehow managed to get the Wii remote and Nunchuk modified to work with this game.

The only financial aspect of the game I find depressing is the other games I have bought in the past 6 years that I don't play hardly at all.

Now that is a waste of cash. CoH/CoV has been worth every penny.
Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.
I'm not going to add it all up. If I added up my cost, I would likely cancel my subscription. ;(
Try adding up your high-speed gaming-centric web costs vs. a decent, good for browsing/work connection since you started with online gaming. Our actual games & fees come off like child's play.

I didn't want to think about it. (Gotta include multiple video cards, and the full PC upgrade after that) But it has been well worth it. Grand total is $2,243.
I could have spent it on console games. I only get the ones I like or have been into as a series on older generations, but of all the console games I own, I've maybe completely finished like 20% of them. Not to mention the games I have on my PC. I need to get around to that sometime, but it kind of sucks without my brothers to help me out like they were able to when we all lived at home.
Now my 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons collection? I have some of the materials as PDF files thanks to a friend, but everything I have bought myself (regarding the books) totals to almost $2,000. It doesn't include figurines I bought several boxes of, with the colossal red dragon costing the most.

3 accts, one started out with Collector's Ed of CoH, 2 standard, then one Collector's Ed of CoV and 2 standard for that. All the paid packs (Wedding, Boosters, etc... etc), the new computer rig that I got to play CoH in Ultra Mode, 5yrs of playing. Don't know what this adds up to, but I'm still having fun if I can spend a good chunk of cash and not even notice how much I actually put down.

69 months on main account,
66 months on second account,
48 months on third and fourth accounts,
24 months on fifth account,
12 months on three or four more accounts for other players,
2 Pre-Order box sets of City of Villains,
7 Good Versus Evil Packs,
4 or 5 Wedding packs,
4 or 5 Cyborg packs,
4 or 5 Magic packs,
2 or 3 Mac/Architect Edition packs,
1 Science! pack,
and at least one Going Rogue Pre-Order as soon as I can.
All values are approximates, but close.
I may have forgotten purchases (original post I had forgotten the Good Versus Evil pack).
Someone want to crunch the numbers for me?
Think it's 57 months, in .50/day increments. Plus a few extras, and CoV and when it's out GR.
And I bought an upgraded computer.
And I bought another one.
And I'll buy yet another one for GR.
And what do I get for all that expenditure?
Fun. Worth every penny.
/Same for the motorcycle and car.

8 Grand.
You count up subscription fees, all the add ons, character slots, couple transfers before the free transfer stuff, 2 name changes.
Then the Video Card & MoBoard & DvD Drive upgrades for the old computer, 4 Diff Headsets(In last 2 years)(For some reason I just tend to wear the wires out on them).
Then throw in the New Computer I just bought, after the latest MoBoard fried out on my old computer. Though I was going buy a new one anyways, turn old one into a Jukebox, not to mention all games I play at times as well.
Add in 13yrs of Playing MMOs, Ive had 3 Computers since I started.(newest being 3rd)
So, I spent bout 8 G's for 13yrs(5 of which is CoH(of & on at times)of entertainment. Ive spent easily twice that in Booze & Bad Choices during that time.

CoV at release
DvD special edition (cheap off Amazon when that trove of them turned up a while back- I've never used the cape, but I like knowing its there).
Packs:
GvE
Martial Arts
Magic
Super Science
Cyborg
I'm sitting on 57 months on this account, but my paid total is more- I accidentally created a 'new' account when I registered my copy of CoV so several months of vet rewards (which didn't exist at the time, so I didn't bother fixing the account snafu) were wasted.
None of this expense depresses me.
The only game that's delivered a higher entertainment/cost ratio was CounterStrike, which was free and kept me busy for several years.
