Depressing thoughts topic: how much have you spent on CoH?

I'd guess at close to 1500 over the last almost 63 months...all the boosters, CoH, CoH DVD Collectors Edition, CoV Collectors Edition, all the boosters, server xfers, name changes!

I'm not going to count new computer, as I would of gotten that regardless of CoH. If it wasnt for CoH it would of been for some other game.

Not at all depressing for me, in regards to how much I've spent. I don't play CoH/V solely on my PC, so any hardware purchases was for all of the games I enjoy. The amount of entertainment I get out of CoH/V is immense compared to how much it has cost me since the beginning.

well, my upgrades tended to be for oblivion, and then because that computer bought the farm, but i'm nearly 69 months here, and have all the boosters, the gve pack, and the mac pack, and the cov regular pack(i dont recall being too impressed with the collectors pack). I have saved a percentage of the months though, because i went on the longer subscription options, so i was saving around 4 bucks a month, and i got on both the 14 month deals. and yes, im getting the gr pre-order and the upgrade pack as soon as possible.

oh and billz, having watched "idiocracy" this weekend again, i got something much dirtier out of your daily latte'

The only depressing thing for me is keeping my Account active for 61 month, still not getting the 60 month vet badge and the free slot that comes with it (I need it this week for a gunslinger) and when I bugged it I got told: "You actually only got 55 month, I personally counted them and you should be lucky we don't take away 3 month, have a nice day". -,-''

I am at 5496 SEK, which is about a month's rent and rougly equal to $800 from my start in june 2008. I am probably a good customer :-)

Still less than I have spent playing Magic:The Gathering online, but of course there I can still sell my cards and get something back.

At any rate, it has been worth every cent.

62 months on my account, 61 months on my wife's account, every booster/expansion for both accounts = a lot.

However, I view all of my gaming expenditures through the horribly expensive lens of
Magic The Gathering Online.

1 Draft = $14.00 (3 booster packs of cards + 2 entry tickets)

At my skill levels that equals 1-2 hours of playtime (about 50/50) and I get back $0 to $8 in prize winnings (about 50/50).

In other words, I stink at draft, but I do love it and was spending A LOT before I burned myself out on magic.

So, after that, no other gaming expenditure really seems all that much.

Would that be why the store is down for maintenance?

Like many of you I've probably spent a few thousand dollars on City of Heroes related stuff over my six years of play. But like many of you I've played so many hours that my average cost per hour is easily less than a dollar per. Hard to find entertainment values that cheap now-a-days so thinking about this is hardly depressing at all.

Roughly $1000 less than I would have spent sticking with console games in that same time period--which I would have.

Yeah, this is why it's not depressing to me, the console cycle.

Now, I spend roughly 45 dollars every 3 months and all the bonus packs and expansions etc.

Compared to buying 1 to 2 games every month, also buying a new console, City of Heroes has saved me money.

Good vs Evil Edition: $20
CoH Collector's Edition: $40
CoV Collector's Edition: $40
Wedding Pack: $10
Cyborg Pack: $10
Mac Edition: $20
Magic Pack: $10
Super Science Pack: $10
Martial Arts Pack: $10
Going Rogue (Just bought! YAY! LOL! My CAPTCHA was "TYVM"!): $30
Game Time (July 2008-Mar 2011): $350~ (Note: Game time from the various editions factored in as "free months" in this calculation.)

While I upgraded both my laptop and my workstation during this time, and CoH WAS an impetus, it wasn't the only one.

So the cost of the game alone is about $550 for me. That comes out to about $17/month. I spend more than this in fast food. My additional withholdings on income tax exceed this. This is the equivalent of 1-2 movies by me (depending on if I see it in IMAX or not).

When I was in college, I decided I needed to form an addiction, so it was either this or drugs. I think I went with the more cost effective solution, here.

Not gonna add it all up, but I know it's a fairly high number (although I'd have to remember what I payed for and what I got for free)... but then divided over 5+ years, it's not really that bad.

As seen on a shirt.

With all the new computer and expansion packs and everything else I am still not getting my money's worth because I play maybe 3 hours a week.

When GR comes out and Issue 17 maybe I will be playing more.

Amortize it out over the last 5-6 years.

I don't wanna do the math because it'll be alot...

But considering the amusement and enjoyment i've gotten out of CoH... Money well spent imo. And i don't find it depressing at all!

Man, how many times do I have to say this -- the "depressing" thing was a joke. Much like this terrible thread.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
